gibbons98legacygt
12-09-2008, 04:56 PM
The car has got 159000 miles on it. The windows are 15% tint. And thanks for the compliments my arm is wore out a lot of waxing

I might get an 02 wrx engine for free i want to build it so it gets around 300hp. then do the swap anyone know how hard it is.

97legacygt
12-09-2008, 05:22 PM
For questions about the swap, you can pm AussieDan, Dip, and kawikid20o2 is in the process of swapping right know.
People have said that doing a swap isn't difficult, just requires patience to do it right. There is a lot of wiring.

Would you be kind enough to tell me where you bought the parts, and were they all bolt on?
1) AGX struts for which model subaru?
2) Ground Control kit for which model subaru?

The parts you used, would they bolt up direct for a 1997 Outback?

I appreciate the help for a newbie.

So here is my car now lowered. I ordered the AGX struts off ebay there for a (93-01) impreza. Then i ordered for a (93-01) off ground controls website ( http://www.ground-control-store.com/products/search.php ) . There are three types of springs sizes you will see on the page I got 7 inch springs but they have 8 and 9 inches springs. Just read about each one the difference is how low or high you can go with them. And thats all you have to buy the stock top hats fit the ground control springs from (96-99) legacy's and outbacks im pretty sure. Then all you have to do is install them. It took my friend and I at work an Hour and 15 minutes but i had all the right equipment (Subaru Dealership lol) and lots of room.

1. AGX struts $450
2. Ground Control Coilover Conversion kit $ 400

About to be taken apart.

few questions
Are those stock size tires?
how much can you adjust the ride height? (stock to how low?)

Thanks

gibbons98legacygt
03-04-2009, 09:31 PM
Im pretty sure there stock size tires i got them with the car and the kit i bought was the 7 inch springs which no matter what lowers it .75 inches and then you can go down from there i can probly get mine like .5 to an 1 inches lower then mine is now. the 8 inch kit goes from stock height to 1.5 inches lower and the 9 inch kits goes from 1 inch of lift to one inch of drop which is gay

Is it true that AGX/GC on a wagon will need to be modified?

KYB AGX / Ground control combo.. you're going to need to modify them. the spring collar rubs against the tire, and will slice the tire open. wagon ergonomics are different from RS in the slightest way, which causes this.

Thoughts?

Yea im not sure about how the wagon set up is. But it sounds like you know. if you got a wagon you might have to do slight moding to get it to work.

O and i forgot to say the rear agx struts have to be ground a little to git the sleave for the GC to fit over them but it was easy you have to only grind a little.

I mean ground control lowering springs

I checked out ground control and saw they didn't seem to have springs for my 99 BD. I thought an impreza set might fit! Looks awesome, I like the ride height. What height did you set it at?

I had just talked to a guy who helped design springs by eibach who now is a teacher at wyotech in west Sacramento so it's ironic that you dopped me that message. He recomended these springs and had mentioned that if you dont install them right they make some noise when flexing but nothing major.

gibbons98legacygt
03-08-2009, 02:28 PM
yea mine are for an impreza and so are agxs struts and the stock top hats on your bd work with the ground control impreza lowering springs

I think those are the wheels my roomate (theangrypidgeon) wanted to get for his 98 leggy. I have to say those look and fit the car very well. More sporty but keeping the mint stockness you car has, not the cluttered aftermarket look. Those are 17'' right? I like the way slightly lowered on 17''s looks on the BDs.

Well done, how did you get them?

Do they rub at all? You should go 225/45 like mine.

TheAngryPidgeon
03-22-2009, 10:29 PM
That's ill man, I've been thinking about doing that since I got my leggy. Any difference in ride/handling with the extra inch? I wouldn't think it would be too noticeable, but I don't have a lot of experience with rim swapping.

Thanks man i like them to i didnt think they were going to look as good as they do  And i do notice better handeling because my other tires on my 16s we cheap and they sucked.

Imo, they almost make BDs look like Bimmers, which I like quite a bit as well.

KAG
03-23-2009, 12:28 AM
Definitely get some 225/45's or even 215/45's. It wont fill in the wheel gap as much as the 205/50, but I think it'll look a lot better and the smaller sidewall will allow for better handling.

Looks like a real clean set though, nice find :smt023

I love the wheels on the BD and the tire size is right on! but what doesn't get me is, how did you manage to fit the 225 in the rear? I'm running 215s and it's just a hair line between the inner tire and strut  ...any tricks?

gibbons98legacygt
04-06-2009, 09:58 PM
O yea i know what u mean i got these tires used so they dont have as much tread if they were brand new they would rub on the strut if they were brand new they are very close there so close that its almost hard to see. maybe some time i have my car up in the air at work ill take a pic its close.

Well the fogs make the biggest difference and the headlights are a little better. But the big thing is the look. They look so much better then the stocks thats the big reason i did it. It makes the car look so much cleaner.

The fogs take like a day to wire and to install there is a write up on DIY forum on how to install them but then the headlights fit right in all you have to do is wire them. There is a DIY for the wiring for the projectors to.

So i worked on a STI at work the other day I did a alignment on it and i got the guys number for if he ever needs future work under the table. So like two days later he calls me because he was driving on country roads and lost control and totaled his nice clean STI. So he called me two days later saying that the insurance company was coming to take his car and he wanted to get rid of the interior and I was the lucky one to be able to take it off his hands i traded him my seat and 425 bucks and got them. I really like how they came out.

Let me just say that my '05 WRX seats suck. They look great but the paddings are so stiff and it hurts my lower back on long drives. I'm not sure about the STi suede seats..

The STi seats are great for a long drive. I did 6 hours Cleveland-north of Toronto without breaking a sweat in April (so snow and crap).
I also just got married so I was, y'know, a little tired.

Yea i didnt get a chance to go to WCSS i wanted to so bad but i promised id help my friend with him transmission and he had to choose this weekend to do it.

how'd you do the independent fogs mannnnn

Took a relay got power for the control side of the relay from the running light. And ran the ground side of the relay into the dash to a switch to control the ground to turn the fogs on or off how i want them. Did one relay for the projectors and one for the outside 1156's

I've exhausted my patience working with jumpers and relays. I've got independent for highs but not complete independent which is my dream.

I attempted running the a relay off of the acc fuse with a piggyback jumper with the intent that fogs would be able to turn on with/without the parking/corner lights illuminated.

I found that it wasn't what I expected when it came to layout and I don't know where the fog relay is located under the dash.

So I'm trying to make them go on without the headlights needing to be on. either full independent or as long as corner lights are on.

gibbons98legacygt

Mine are completely wired not useing the stock harness i dont use the stock fog light switch i used my own switch and i put a relay in

Havent posted in a while guys. Last month i put my 16s back on for the winter and raised my car back up to stock ride height and did an alignment for the winter. Raising my car was needed because i go snowboarding all the time and i kinda want my bumper to stay nice. Ive been up to Mt. hood 8 times already this year, its going to be a good boarding year.

So the last couple of days I stoped being lazy and I found this spray stuff to put on ur carpet to change it to black. So my car went into the garage and pulled my interior out to dye/paint my carpet black after three days its back together and i am really happy with how it came out. Im glad i went this route instead of getting WRX black carpet.

Carpet half done.
