I re-added myself to the frapper. I know I added myself before, but I disappeared some how.

Albany sux, but I guess if thats the middle of nowhere, then we should all have roughly the same distance to reach it.

looking at teh frapper map, looks like bella's location might be central enough if we want to consider the guys from MD and such, thought it might be too long a drive for the New England folks, and people like Badbasser from waaayyyyy upstate NY and Huffer from cleveland.

EDIT

image shack is down for maintenance right now, so tomorrow, i'll upload a screenshot of that i think might be a decent "crop" of the frapper map showing the locations of the people who might be interested, and took into some account concentrations. unfortunately, the "outliers" are discounted at this stage.

so i zoom in to pick a central location and it looks like it'll be in Wilkes-Barre.

once we have a lcoation, and a preliminary headcount, i can start making phonecalls for lodging arrangements.

Reason
01-03-2006, 08:55 PM
You can't go by the "central" area of everyone. I will tell you this, not everyone will go. Someone has to just say when and where. We had something like 12 people to come to the New England meet, we had 4 or 5. New England isn't huge, it shouldn't take more than 4 hours to get from one end to the other, so distance and time wasn't a factor.

gil_ong81
01-03-2006, 09:15 PM
You can't go by the "central" area of everyone. I will tell you this, not everyone will go.

true, i'd hate to skew the location in any one direction for one person, and then have him decide not to show.

Wiscon_Mark
01-07-2006, 11:37 AM
yeah, the area around b-town is also mountainous (very beautful, I love mountains) but the city itself is kinda industrial (in a bad way). I would go with Elmira.

How do I know this? We always used to vacation in the Catskills, so we've stopped by all the cities along route 17 from Erie, PA to Liberty, NY :)

belladonna

ivwarrior
01-07-2006, 08:48 PM
Elmira or Corning would be about 150 for me. Binghamton would be about 200. No idea if I'd go that far or not, it'd depend on a lot of things including date and my work schedule.

gil_ong81
01-07-2006, 10:33 PM
125 miles to elmira
105 to corning
160 to binghamton
225 to albany

i don't care one way or another.

Yeah, I tossed that in there 'cause it's straight up 15. Probably the easiest to get to. I hate having to run up 14 or 220 to get somewhere. And if I were to hop in the Outback and come up, I'd have about 1.5 hours just to get to Williamsport, then the hour you're talking about.

I am good with Albany, but it makes a long drive for you guys from PA and such. Depends when it is too, hopefully as soon as the salt and nastyness goes away, the mods will begin. Don't want to go to a meet with the car half torn apart :P

Wait.....we are talking about a Subaru meet here, right? I've never in all my years thought I'd hear Subaru people complain about driving in bad weather! :P It's not only this thread either, it seems to be a trend here at SL-I ( like the WV meet). :?

I want to show up with snow, ice, mud, salt, dirt, dust, and road grim all over my Subarina. She would wear it with pride too. That's what Subarus are all about......not being pretty.

You want people to see your car all nice and shiny, as well as theirs? The meet will just have to include a stop at a do it yourself car wash. Spray 'em down, line 'em up, take pics, google and drool. THen we can go get 'em dirty again because that means we're having fun!

late march (25th)/early april (8th) in albany....that is my suggestion...

matt - i know corning is closer to us, but it's almost excluding the people from upstate ny so that's why albany seems good. it would take us all about the same time to get there

Would Corning work for you ivwarrior?

I'm 95% sure I would NOT be able to make the trip to Albany. It's just too far to go while my wife is pregnant.

If it's in Corning I might be able to get some of the Mid-A posse up there too.

Albany, whenever... as long as its a weekend.

ivwarrior

Corning is fine for me. It's half the drive that Albany would be. I have only get 2 Saturdays a month off, so if it's going to be on a Saturday I need a little advance notice to make sure I can have the day off. If we're looking March/April timeframe I should be able to clear the work schedule without trouble.

belladonna
01-18-2006, 09:33 AM
okay, for me to be there, it has to be in April...i'm a member of the penn college motorsports association and they're having their autocross event that day...

corning - 3
albany - 1

would anyone object to april 8? if you guys still think march 25 is the best date, that's fine.

I'm easy, as long as its not the last 2 weeks of May cause I'll be trekking through Belize, and not the week following April the 26th...I'm turning 21 and from the way it sounds between my buddies from school, work, and my dad and uncles, my blood alcohol level will probably equal the number of miles I'd be travelling to get there. Just let me know at least 1 week in advance so I can book off if I have work. Corning sounds like a good idea, I'd really like to meet up with the rather large Mid-A contingent we have built up, and I do remember something about Jess promising to bring that bikini to the next meet she went to...! lol

the meet will be in Corning, NY since we have twice as many votes for that city...i need someone familiar with that area to help me find a spot there. i'll do some research tonight and maybe line up a subaru dealer that would allow us to sit in the lot

the date will be late February i'm thinking...i know that's a bump up from late March, but it's still a month's advance notice...if anyone wants to argue with that, go ahead and i'll listen and take everything into consideration... :)

so i would like a tentative head count....

OK, we've got a date, now we need to get a location figured out. I still vote for a restaurant, I know I'll be hungry. :-D I'm assuming this is a "subaru" meet and not just a "legacy" meet, so once date/time/location is decided somone can post to the other forums as well? I know there's a TON of Subarus around central PA, I wonder how many "lurkers" are on the boards and will show up once a meet is announced.....

Need to figure out where to meet up for the drive up together, too. I'll be going right by Williamsport to get there, so I'll join in on the convoy if you get a meeting spot/time figured out.

01-21-2006, 04:45 PM
well, it's mainly a SL-i meet meaning Legacys, but i guess others could come too...

Matt and Jason - let's all meet at the Heburnville ramp...it means i won't have to be backtracking too far then...
and i'm sorry i forgot your name matt! i thought i put it up there. i'm very sorry :(

so i was thinking of finding some scenic area to do some photos in and then eating a restaurant would be good.

thanks for fixing that mark...i'll need you to update the list and the actual title of the thread to include the date and location...i'm just the events coordinator

I guess having owned a old GL wagon, an Impreza wagon, a Legacy sedan and now 2 Outback wagons I'm more interested in seeing a general meet (or a forum that was all inclusive, since many parts, repairs, suggestions, mods carry across most model lines) than people who are die hard fans of one particular model.

Matt & I will likely just head up to meet at the Hepburnville spot and we can get a head count . Once everyone is accounted for, we'll head out. Does everyone have a 2-way radio available to use for the trip?

ivwarrior, we'd be glad to have ya join us for the trip up. The more the marrier right?

Jess, her car is a little more than "scratched" up. I already temp fixed the rear bumper to get ready for warmer weather so it could be repainted. Now I have to fix a large crack in the front bumper, get a replacement GT side skirt & a new P.S. front door...

strat81
01-21-2006, 06:33 PM
front and rear bumpers on mine have paint flaking off, there's a crease on the driver's front fender, and a dent on the passenger rear filler panel (right below the taillight)

hepburnville exit works for me. jess and i have two way radios (just have to make sure they are compatible with everybody else)

i'd say keep it more focused towards a legacy/outback meet... afterall, there is a meet later in the year at beaver that's open to all subarus.

Ok, if we just wanna keep it to the Legacy/Outback, wanted to make sure before I posted anything over on Nabisco and had a bunch of Impreza's show up :) I had posted a feeler about an event over on Outback.org and didn't get a single reply, even though I know there's some Outback owners from the area who check in there.......who knows, maybe I'll have the only Outback there.....

Yeah, likely just FRS would be the most common for everyone to have. They've come down greatly in price over the last few years, so anyone can pick up a set cheap if you don't have 'em.

Hepburnville exit it is for sure then! It worked out really well for STPR and we even had guys come from around York that had never been up here before and they found it no problem. Astin met up with us (first time I'd met him) that day too.

I don't have a radio but can probably get one to borrow or something.

We gotta have pics. Absolutely, positively must have a photoshoot. I've got a new camera to play with, not having a photo op isn't an option. :D

That said, I'd bet a phone call or e-mail to the Subie dealer up there would probably be all it takes to find somewhere good for a shoot...... At least, you'd think a Subaru dealer would be willing to help out a bunch of crazy Subaru owners coming to their town....

EDIT: Nevermind, I just checked subaru.com for the "local dealer" for Corning, and there isn't one. Closest is Mansfield, PA....Sayre, PA or up in Ithaca , NY......still, we gotta have a photo shoot somewhere ;)

i'm looking for like a town park or something like that nearby. corning is out in the middle of nowhere, so if necessary, we could just drive out of the city a couple of minutes and find a spot

i'm thinking friendly's is better because there is a wider variety of food.

anyway, it would be great if someone could help me with the photo shoot location....

what time would everyone like to meet up? i'm thinking no later than 2 p.m. for friendly's for those that are traveling. we can meet up and do the photo op beforehand.

You guys do know that we are going to be like 20-30 minutes south of Watkins Glenn right? Anyone up for some road racing!

Um, ok, whatever. It was just a thought, it doesn't really matter to me. Watkins is too far anyways, I looked at a map and it's farther then I thought.

I was kinda hoping we'd all take a cruise or something though too. I guess the drive to the state park will kinda be a cruise if it's 20 some miles away but I didn't really want to just stand around somewhere, personally. It's much more fun to see cars in motion then parked IMO.

01-26-2006, 05:57 PM
matt - i see where you're coming from but i'm just thinking that some of the other members that will be driving longer to get there may not want to cruise around. that's not really time in getting to know everyone either IMO. i think the cruise to the state park should be plenty of drive time

I'm thinking many (most?) of us are going to be cruising together from the Williamsport area to New York...that's not enough of a cruise for ya Matt?

I could handle a short cruise, but I'm definately not going to be up for a hundred mile loop or anything, on top of all the other driving I'll have to do. Did I mention I drive all day for my job? Over 1000 miles Monday-Wednesday this week.....and that's only a little higher than a typical week.

Oh, and with the camera to record the drive thing....I've always wanted to get one of those cheapie cameras you see all the time and bumper mount it and record a drive........i think it'd make an interesting perspective.

Meeting for photos around 1:00 sounds good to me. That'll allow me time to drive up and meet up with the port crew without having to get up TOO early. I also agree with photos, then food. That way if we sit around the restaurant too long, well, pics are already taken, who cares if it gets dark....

Oh, and a note on internet pricing/in store pricing....a lot of places are like that. Even hotels. I knew Holiday Inn was one price according to their website. When we got to the hotel, they wouldn't give us that price. I went outside, called my in-laws and had them book the room online, then went back in and checked in at the online rate. :) I've also seen electronics and stuff that said "internet special" or "web pricing only" so it's not just Wal-Mart.

Just a thought, but what about the possibility of a nice lot some where we all can fit to snap a picture? Not saying the park is a bad idea, but there maybe some nice places within Corning to snap pics.

There's not much to Corning, but if you want to source the internet to find somewhere else, be my guest. a park is going to be nicer, and less of a hassle to find and get to in my opinion.

:P Now for the real reason... I have just been told that I have to work that weekend instead of the weekend before  I'll like the overtime, but I really wanted to make this meet. :(
And this is not anything I can get out of :x So hopefully there is another meet sometime soon in the area again.

so where in corning and when are we meeting?

belladonna
03-05-2006, 11:38 AM
http://www.nysparks.com/parks/info.asp?parkID=99

there's the link to the park...it's in Addison, NY which is about 20 min. southwest of Corning. I hope you guys that are driving don't mind too much, but it's the closest to a park we could find. There are directions on that page, but if you need extra assistance, post up and I'll help you out...

03-06-2006, 08:29 AM
what time is the port crew meeting up again? 11?

belladonna
03-06-2006, 11:15 AM
originally i thought 11:30 would be good, but 11 sounds better since it takes about 1 1/2 to get to the park and we have people not from around williamsport meeting us at the exit...

so TIME CHANGE for the port crew meet up is now 11 AM...

for anyone who mapquests the park, use the address given on the state park's website because we'll all meet at the ranger's station...

so who's going to have radios? i know spence and i will...

OK.

I wasn't thinking, and washed my car today. :)

First time since I bought it, too. Wife said she was washing hers, I thought "why not" and did mine, too. Oh well, it looks pretty good, but it's still not "spotless clean". Doubt I'll have time to actually hand wash it between now and the meet.

Can you believe the automatic carwash here takes Visa/Mastercard now?

Ok, the wife & I just went to the Corning Museum of Glass on Wednesday, so I have a very good knowledge of the drive until you have to locate Route 417 West. After you leave Route 15 North, Route 417 West takes you to Addison and there will be signs directing us to the State Park the rest of the way. Pretty straight forward really.

**Side note: for those who are not aware, radar detectors are not legal for use once you cross into NY (Lawrenceville is the first town you enter as you leave PA).**
