Hello, guess its time I make one of theses...lol.

Bought it on March 14, 2009 with 160k miles on it.
Its an auto but it's proving to be everything I wanted in a car.

Vehicle History:
I'm the 3rd owner of this vehicle.
I got from a family who had just lost a family member. They just wanted the car gone.
The gentleman that they lost was the owner of it. He had it from 2000 to 2009 and only put 60k on it.
The owner before that put the other 100k on it.

I took the front license plate holder off...looks so much better

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/06/IMG_0342JPG-1.jpg
Did some paint. I know its sorta common but I like it. It offsets the grey everywhere else.

No more 'L' or dealer tag.

Thats it for pics.

Not a bad little car you got there. IDK how I feel about the gold caps, black might look nice. I think a GT bumper would be a great addition to the car.

I wanted to see how the gold would look with the silver. And I like it. Hopefully I can find some gold WRX wheels for on this.

I know...I just cant find one in my area. It sucks.

Bumping time with a question.
Will a steering wheel from a newer (like 05) STi work in a BD6? I know I'd need to rewire the horn and cruise and airbag.

Airbag will not work. Clockspring needs to be from a '98+ Subaru. If you buy a JDM wheel you will need to take a dremel saw and cut into it where the cruise control stalk would be.

Updating time. Got a coupon for 20% off a subaru accessory from any dealer. So, I went and got the official all-weather floor mats (I went through 2 different sets of department store generic ones with no success in fitting the way they should).

Another update for me is my 6 disc CD Changer from user T_F_E.

nice looking BD you got there. Definetly needs some JDM headlights and rims now :)

Its too bad you have an auto but nothing is stopping you from swapping later on.

I am currently after some snowflake wheels, yet again STiRally8 might be the helper here.

its from a 06 WRX, It works with the factory plug. The reason for all my wiring in the one picture is that the factory unit has no RCA for subwoofer installations so I had to put in a converter.

nice!, does the L version comes with sun roof?
I dont believe so. Mine is aftermarket. Was already installed when I got the car.

New suspension is in the works.
New Interior
Gonna rework the sound system soon

All older Subaru vehicles, non current models (<07), that use the standard single or double din head unit use the same plug to my knowledge.

=================================================

Got a question for all you mechanics
i have a CEL on right now
P0400 -Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction
and
P0420 -Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

I have replaced the EGR Valve with a newer used one (cleaned it out myself)
What do i need to do or check to get ride of these CELs and get my mileage up

Grafton
03-19-2010, 02:29 PM
looks like you have a cat going bad, but advance or auto-zone should be able to clear the codes for free

geckoboy86
03-19-2010, 02:52 PM
I would rather fix it. my mileage is shitty even for subarus.

Does the cat going explain both codes? Should I be concerned about my o2 sensors?

EDIT: On another note, the CEL light comes and goes. Its not the bulb.

Been awhile since I updated. Unfortunately not much to say other then a few things breaking on me, But thats all about to change.

Broken (still broken at this point)
Passenger side front axle boot went.
Before that my ABS light came on (sensor needing cleaned I hope)
CEL isnt on anymore (had P0400 and P0420) - Plan on changing the o2 here soon
Car went through a freak hail storm after walking in a church (Im not a normal church goer so the big man must not of been to happy to see me and took it out on my poor subie)

Im gearing up for some upgrades/fixes that should take place before spring 2011
Fix the above
WRX Suspension
WRX Hood Scoop
Full window tinting (cant decided on what level of tint)
Might be a new exhaust in there, not sure

Navi271
10-02-2010, 01:33 PM
Did my pm make you wanna update this? lol

ugh, I hate when stuff breaks. Looks like we both have to spend more time on fixing than modding!

Those o2 sensors are expensive! I wouldn't buy a new one unless it starts giving you more trouble again...

I was planning on it updating this soon. I took a break from modding the car this summer. I even avoided SLi. But I got in the mood and then found the WRX suspension (about this time last week). I wasnt gonna update till after the new suspension was on but then your PM made me feel the need to update.

My mileage is shit, even for a subaru. I only get 17mpg. O2 or cat needs to be replaced to hopefully get that back up to 20mpg+

geckoboy86
10-03-2010, 06:58 AM
Yay. I hit a deer. Need a new hood. Passenger head light. Passenger fender. Maybe a new grill. Car seems to be fine.

Yay. I hit a deer. Need a new hood. Passenger head light. Passenger fender. Maybe a new grill. Car seems to be fine.
Man, that sucks... I guess it's time to look for a scooped hood!

I bet not modding saved some money, and the wrx suspension should be nice too!

If you're still getting crappy mileage and your CEL is gone, try just unplugging the sensors themselves. When my car was being stupid, it was getting a solid 20 mpg no matter how i drove. I replaced the cats with a high flow cat, then I got 25mpg. I didn't like the sound of the cat much and the lost back pressure, because of the 2.5" piping, so I put the old cats back in. I'm still getting 25mpg with the old cats back on!!! So I think just unplugging the senors and thus resetting them made my car get the mileage back. But I think I got a CEL because of my aftermarket headers in the first place, so there was never a real problem with my cats.

Idk, something you can maybe try.

geckoboy86
10-03-2010, 05:58 PM
It does. Im still getting my suspension. I have a second car I can use for up to one month to get all my repairs done if need be.

As for the hood. Ill use this banged up hood to test out the WRX scoop. I plan on getting another non-scooped hood so I can preform this mod.

As for the O2/Cat
I'll try it (do i do that from underneath, and which one, front or back) . My exhaust is the original exhaust. 95 with 176k on it.

EDIT: Time to update my Plans

Oh ok good! Glad to hear this deer incident isn't keep you down.

I'd unplug both just to be sure. The front one is easy to unplug from the engine bay, while the rear one has to be unplugged under the car. It's just a plastic clip. I'd jack the front of the car up, put on jack stands. Unplug the front one from the engine bay on top, crawl underneath and unplug the rear one, then go back up and plug in the front one, then crawl underneath again to plug the rear one back in. Idk if there's a certain amount of time you have to have it unplugged or what, so crawling underneath the car and back out would give it a minute to "reset." Hopefully!

If the CEL comes back on, or this doesn't work then one of the cats or one of the sensors is toast, but I would have no idea which part it would be... But as long as there's no CEL and the computer is happy, there shouldn't be any reason you're not getting the best gas mileage! Good luck!

Talked with the person who is helping me repair my subie. She is gonna be a different looking car once its all said and done.

And @Navi and@WESTcoast, Thanks for the info.

My oil pump has come into question about needing replaced (this is what I am told). I am no mechanic. I made a post about it but have had only one person comment on it. Think ya can add to it.

geckoboy86
04-10-2011, 03:42 PM
I went from L to WRX seats. They are a lot higher.

I'm 5'10" and Im ok with it...had to recline it a bit. They are really nice and hold ya in.
I heard from a few different sites that while the 02 to 07 WRX seats look the same, the 02 and 03 are made differently and have a softer foam in them so you sink in them a bit more.

A central PA meet is needed...I cant afford to goto the north east PA ones.

xoSubieLegacyxo

I was at an "RS 25" meet in Philly, and I'll never drive that far for a meet again. Great people and cars, but just not worth it.

Also, Don't swap your OEM bumper for an RS one. It looks stupid. Its like putting a STi wing on a legacy......ugly and out of place.

The Legacy in that pic looks horrid for 2 reasons...
1) Those Rims are just nasty
2) The foglights in the bumper are way too big (RS ones are not that big)

The legacy in this pic looks alot better.

I can help you with the factory cluster. I'm not sure how good of a condition it is, but I pulled it off of a 96 leggy. It had after market lights in front of the factory ones, so its all OEM now! Only problem is is that I took off the gauge needles, so you'll be guessing where they go. I found this link by "Zues Marine" on taking off the needles, and where they approximatively will hang. And you can't ask him cause he's banned! lol PM me if you want it it's free!

And for a picture tomorrow, I installed an eBay Strut Bar that was used, but its been painted for that new hot look.

Stripped the RS Bumper yesterday of lights and extras.
Gonna need some new hardware for mounting the fogs and new turn lenses (in clear, Anyone know where I can score these?).

Doing a test fit today to see how the holes line up on the sides and starting a photo log of this process.
After the test fit comes repair. Got a nasty deep scrape on the front and need to fits a few bumper mounting points.

GTDrifter
06-26-2011, 02:27 AM
Why do you have to find new hardware for the fogs and turns?

Turns just need a metal clip which you can jack from your gauge cluster...happy you found the bumper

geckoboy86
06-26-2011, 12:40 PM
Bolts are just rusted badly for the fogs.
The one turn has a cracked lens, which is why I want clear lenses. Plus all my other turns are clear.

The grille area either needs trimmed down or the grille itself. A small portion sticks up near the headlight (only about an inch in length that is only a mm or 2 high.

The issue is near the wheelwell. The fender line does a small decline just before the wheelwell. That'll need to be adjusted for. Also the bumper is about a inch too long into the wheelwell. The mount for the inside of the fender and bumper will probably end up being a ziptie.

The underseat sub was originally the OEM one. The woofer was bad. So I ordered the 6.5" EQ one. And my brother made the box.

The front brace is just eye candy. Doesn't do too much, the 2nd gen firewall is really sturdy in our cars. The rear one is a better buy.

There might be a small variance in the front line right where the line meets the caliper. I believe my stock ones were flat and the WRX ones were angled.

But then that was with my 95 L 2.2l. Yours could be different. Or it might not even matter. As I said before. I swapped my suspension and brakes (with lines due to mounting on the WRX struts) all over in a week.

And got a new cluster.
Has the grey faces, red needles, and a 120 speedo. Best of all, I'm back to stock colors for the lit parts.

I will then. Thanks again for making this for me.

I love the colors of it. I really like how it looks like the whole face is glowing at night because of the grey face. All the little dashes along the gauges are awesome too (and gives you that more accurate feel). Looks more race ready with fewer numbers on the speedo.

How long did it take you to swap brakes and struts? I still need to get/rent a spring compressor to put my suspension together. Thanks man.

02-19-2012, 07:54 AM
It was done mainly over a week. Mainly the weekends. During the week was the painting phase for the calipers and caliper brackets. My brother helped me out alot with it. We didn't use a spring compressor but that probably would of made life simple. We used multiple jacks.

I think I am gonna sit down and seriously rethink where I want to take this car. The RS bumper might be close to the chopping block. I know its one of the things I longed for the most but I am now kinda over it. I still want big ass fogs.

So...RS bumper is off...up for grabs too. viewtopic.php?f=22&t=24067 (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=24067)
On page 6 of this members ride, I kept on seeing that mag cover and that car looked better then my RS front end.

So...I'm in the process of rethinking what I want to do with the car. I was gonna get a 4th gen but some sense was talked into me and I'm gonna keep the BD. Its been a fantastic car. I love it but not sure how I want to set it up to keep me happy.

Think I got the idea of what I want down. Time to start the new project! I shall call it URV.

Urban Rally Vehicle.
Urban for the primary environment. Style elements as well. (it'll still see dirt, don't worry)
Rally for set-up. Not all about power but handling is key. (fog lights -plural- are a must)
Vehicle for the fact it is my daily driver still.

Parts are on order from Rallysport Direct. Talking to httrdd and 98legwag about some parts...Should be fun.
Rally Armor mud-flaps, JDM headlights, GT side skirts (start of a new exterior idea), maybe a new suspension, H6 brakes, Improved sound system.
And that is just the start.

Have been offered a Pioneer AVH-P3200BT. Double Din 5.8" touchscreen unit. $200

And a set of 18" rims. Cant remember the brand name or the tire size but they are nice but a little flashy. They have some Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance tires on em. He has me making an offer on those...Unsure if I want them or what to offer...Rims were 1200 and tires were 650 when he got them. Prefect condition. 15k on the tires and has another 40k left. This is the rims second set of tires.

Im debating on a few choices.
98 5 Spoke RS 'Goldies'
Snowflakes (painted in gold)
06-07 WRX (paint in gold)

As you can tell, I kinda want gold back. I don't want to paint the RSs.
