Water spray is a good way to keep your intercooler cool, even when it`s on top of the engine...

I used the pump for the rear window washer, because I didn`t see any possibility to fit an extra tank in the engine bay.

First you shoud consider how you want to control the spray. Mine is controlled by 3 devices at same time:
-Temp sensor and controller assembly; automatically activates a an adjustable temp;
-a switch on the throttle, so it activates when your about 80% wot
-a push switch to control it manual

I also used a on/off switch to cut the power if water is empty, etc. To control the pump I put in a relay besides the pump.

Let`s start from the inside...

Here you can see the temp controller, and the switches from backwards:

The switches again:

Just unplug the washer hose and put on a new one on the pump. Route it to the Ic and put on nozzles. First I tried a hose where I cut small holes in. It worked well, but not good enought. I think the hose wasn`t good enought. Looked like this:

You can see the temp sensor pushed into the Ic...

Now I got nozzles from a garden supply shop, which work pretty well:

Ok, sorry for my bad english, but enjoy the DIY and post pics of yours... :smt006

Thought it`s that easy that you don`t need a diagram...

looks pretty simple!

ice water would be effective i imagine, but would it be more effective/worth the fuss

to engineer and use some type of gas setup and use the cooling effect of the pressure differential to cool the intercooler

similer to using a NOS bottle to ice up an intercooler before a race...

Yes running a cold type of gas will give better results then water or ice water.

Most tracks in my area ban Nitrous spray so the next best method is CO2. Cheap and does the same job, but both involve a tank, solenoids, valves and lots of plumbing. Not really worth the money unless your producing serious amounts of heat or a victim of heat soak.

Then there's those "S-Max Intercoolers" that run C02 through pipes that are integrated into the intercooler instead of a kit that is attached infront. Some tracks ban the use of soleniods and valves so this is a nice way to bend the rules.

And Steinbruchsoldat thanks for the schematics.

thats odd that some tracks would ban the use of "go-fast-ness" i wonder why, do you know?

tracks down here dont care what you do as long as you dont blow up, or leave fluid on the track, then they get pissy
