Oh no no.. I wouldnt attempt to tow such a heavy car with mine.. that would go WAY over its towing capacity. @Yamazaki drove the car up to me this weekend.

Hey, I towed the E500 with the Impreza. Sure, the frame near the tow hook bent a little, but it did it! I am sure the RS30 could tow it's older brother. (although that's a hell of a distance to do and would take forever)

As sad as I am to know I will more then likely not see this car in person again, or drive it, I'm happy to know who it ended up with.

I'll need to see if I can dig up the pic I have of it when I had it as a loaner when I drove to DC to explore...

That isnt true at all.. I can almost guarantee that you will see/drive this car again.

On another note.. new parts for this car! Legacy S401 springs. The STI Pinks that are currently on the car are too low for my tastes.. this will raise up the car about 15mm or so and give it firmer ride.

I am not sure when I am going to have a chance to put them on, but they did show up today.

I registered the car today. Depending on weather this weekend, I may get the suspension figured out, which I am looking forward to.

Nothing to report on this car either. She has been parked under my deck due to fairly limited parking options, and with all of the snow that we have had lately.. she is kind of stuck there for now.

I am eagerly anticipating the warmer days this week so that at least some of the snow can melt, and I can get her into the garage to do some work.

I was able to get the car out and I did some work on her today.

I sorted out the rear of the car, tightened up all of the bolts, and changed out the rear shocks and springs with the set from the S401. I forgot to measure before and after, but it is a good 20mm or so higher than it used to be. I will be sure to measure the front when I change out the struts.

Comparison of the STI Pinks vs STI Blacks (S401 springs). Same number of coils, but the Blacks are not progressive, and the spring itself is about 2mm thicker.

How the rear sits now. I am sure it will settle a bit over time, but it seems to fail a shoe test as it is.

Once the front is done, then its alignment time.. and then recalibrate the VDC so it will work again now that the steering angle sensor has been replaced. That should keep me happy mechanically for a little while, so I can tackle the wiring.

Front is done! The car is now tall enough that I can use my low-profile car ramps. I did some measuring this time, and the car is quite a bit higher than I guessed.

First. Comparison of the STI Pinks and S401 Blacks: Same number of coils, just thicker springs.

Before, 63cm from floor to the top of the front wheel arch:

    After: Almost 66cm!

So, a bit more than the 20mm that I guessed yesterday. I also took the opportunity to tighten up the rest of the suspension and re-orient the front swaybar. Tomorrow morning: Alignment time.

Alignment went well. I managed to get the front spot on by eye, which was nice. I had already re-centered the steering wheel, which is all it really needed. The rear was out by quite a bit, but I fully expected that since the subframe and most of the bushings were replaced back there.

In other news, I think one of the engine mounts may be broken.. there is a significant clunk up front when going on and off power. I have to get under there and look around. I am surprised at how much they are.. $120/ea at Subaru.

But enough about that, as promised.. here are photos!

    Rear quarter:

Dash: (I havent done anything here except swap out the steering wheel with one from a SG Forester XT)

Yes officer, I did hit a pedestrian, but instead of dwelling on that why not focus on how many I've missed?

Turns out this was not a broken engine mount.. but a loose pitch stop! I am really surprised the amount of noises the car was making with just one of the pitch stop bolts being a little loose. Tightened that up, and it has been doing very well for me ever since.

I still have something loose in the back end, I hear a good clunk when going over some largish bumps.. but I think I might have forgotten to tighten one of the swaybar endlinks when I was last back there..

I have discovered that this car gets noticed... a lot.

In the 4 years that I have owned the RS30.. I have been only noticed on the road a half dozen times. In parking lots, people noticed the XV wheels quite a bit.. but you cant really see them when I am driving.

In the last 2 weeks... I have been flagged down, thumbed up, or waved to at least 5 times. One guy was trying to have a conversation with me about the car in Providence traffic last night. It is definitely a different experience, that is for sure.

Oh, and the louder exhaust encourages me to drive more like an ass.

Yeah. The H6 sounds so great with a nice exhaust note.
