On literally the third drive with my new skid plate on, it protected my bumper from much damage, as I struck a possum at probably 100-110kph, without ever tapping the brakes. I realised what it was at the last second and decided to forego any pleasantries... Instead I put the guard to good use, and good use it proved to be.

For those that don't know, possums are a pest in NZ, and do a bloody fantastic job of DESTROYING our native forrests and fauna. They also cost our government millions each year in efforts to cull the population. So most kiwi's, like myself, take great glee in smashing their little heads in at any opportunity we can.

May he rest in peace. He died only 50km's from where I live now, have been to his statue many many times, he was man I truly truly looked up to, and who inspired me.

He got the nickname, beacuase in his youth he was taking his mums car for a gravel bash, and swerved to avoid a possum, which ended in him rolling the car several times. Needless to say I'm not interested in repeating the feat!!!

Kinda sad that they are going to be taking his statue away this year in time for the 10th anniversary of his passing, we were going to plan a big subie cruise up to his statue on the day, but looks like those plans are in the air now

They are taking the statue to his home town of pukekohe though, which is nice.
