On my '97 L wagon have been hearing weird humming coming from engine compartment. I thought maybe power steering pump. Couldn't locate the sound so took it to my Subaru mechanic. He asked me to start the car and before I could get out he was pointing at my air filter housing where the bottom tabs holding it on were broken. I guess it's common and yes I am no mechanic.

I removed mine on my 98 when I installed the jdm fog lights. It makes the humming noise.

Today reached driving my '96 Outback "Joey" 200k miles. It was a trade in at the dealership where I worked. Driven 12k miles in five years. Not fast, great looking or impressive but the best car I've ever owned. Oh, and we celebrated by taking a load to the dump.

Did a ball joint (what a pain in the ass!) and fixed my JDM fog lights.

Right, from what I've been able to gather the gen 2s didn't have cabin air filters...which seems silly. I was hoping it had just been omitted from the user's manual but I guess not.

If it makes you feel better, 05's have a empty tray for most that build year. I took half the car apart to change it and I be d*** if there wasn't anything in there. There is a kit to make 05 filter changes easy, I'll try and source that out next year.

...Does the 4th gen family have support group meetings? I can already tell that my wallet and I are going to need some serious couples therapy...

LOL, yeah we meet in the sister forums where a ton of GB's pop up to make the situation worse. I missed the GS TMIC one but made the GS CAI + EBCS one.

Found the owner of my old Outback on cardomain.... Douche. Said he got the car stock besides the coilovers.
Taking the credit of all the "mods" i have done to her.
After I posted comment on his Instagram sayin am the original owner and built the car he deleted all my stuff.

Just an FYI, the stock engine cover serves as part of the duct from scoop to intercooler.

Decided to take my Integra lip off. It just didn't look natural. Reselling it for $5 less, so I can't complain.

Yah I have a good idea I know what you're talking about. I just thought this style looked cool with the little vents since the stock one had them. I like to be able to go over speed bumps too. lol

The duct on the hood doesn't go completely down to the intercooler. This has been covered numerous times on lgt.com, removing the stock engine cover decreases the already crap efficiency of the lgt/obxt intercooler.

The stock TMIC? That little guy? I wouldn't worry about him... he's not sticking around very long.



Still working on cleaning this thing up, aluminum is all oxidized and I've been straightening fins bit by bit. Waiting for my buddy to take his downpipe off so I can install that, the FMIC, catless up pipe, etc all at once.

Every time I make a dent in the pile o' parts, new stuff takes its place... as of today I own a VF52.

Replaced the remaining 3 wheel bearing/hub assemblies on the '07 Legacy a couple weeks ago. Now it looks like the front o2 sensor has packed it up. i still like the car, I'm just trying to catch up on previous owner's neglect. Wish me luck folks.
