Took me an hour and a half to get the bolts apart and cut the spring exhaust bolts from the Svx in my storage. I now have an idea of what I am going to do to make this exhaust work. As you can see there are 2 female connections. I am going to sleeve a 2 1/4 inch pipe into both ends and weld. Just need to get one of my buddies down here to weld! :lol: I will also cut the moving flange. Belive it or not the size of the Svx Y and the Cat fit the same as our y and cat. There is even a hanger to mount the Y. Good thing only payed 50 bucks for this cat back, cause I have been hacking it up!! :smt021

Car is just about full assembled now. I ran it around the block and had a smile on my face the whole time. I am running just the header and cat without a catback until I get the funds to have headers and cat made to fit my 3" catback. Loud as shit! Going to work on the rest tonight and it will be on the road for good! I also tried to make a run video, but I forgot I was recording through most of it. Lol!

Not sure if i ever got around to showing you this, but anyway chux found this for me a while back. its a tach signal modifier so that you can still use your original tach and it will still actually show the correct rpm.

Worked on the exhaust today. I had to mate 2 female flanges together so I decided to use a donut gasket. The Svx cat flange is bent a little so when I put them together it still had a good leak in the gasket. So tonight I am buying some high temp silicone and a exhaust repair wrap and seal the crap out of it. I am getting a custom header made with high flow cats in a couple of weeks. I will be sure to post a good run video soon.

Belt was good and the temperature stayed down. I need to get that other fan in there so the rad cools quicker. I hate when the fan run a little while after the car shuts off. all Saabs do that. I think it's the temp sensor you are using and not the size of the fan

remember guys, the tach is reading 150% higher because of the extra 2 cylinders, (2000 engine rpm shows as 3000 on tach, 6000 engine rpm shows as 9000 on tach)

I am looking into suspension parts to toughen the body up as well as some wrx struts/springs. I have the motor in now I need to pick up the apperance. Looking at wheels too. Can I use the brakes off of the Svx to have a H6 conversion or is that not possible?

^ not possible/not worth the effort, svx stuff is all wrong (lug pattern) , and the "h6 upgrade" stuff really only refers to new h6 legacys. honestly, there is nothing wrong with the GT brake stuff. its the crap on my brighton that is a little scary...

This is one of those recycled stories, ;) but I heard by using the SVX rear brake brackets with your GT calipers, AND either drilling the SVX rotors or using "h6" rotors, you have the H6 upgrade using the older style calipers/brackets.

He'd be better off buying a reasonable MT than converting to an MT from a EAT. The work involved (especially the wiring) is generally not worth it unless you already know exactly what you're doing... Don't get me wrong, 5-6MT FTW! Conversions just suck...

We worked on the bad idel and she really purrs now! Also started looking into why I have no dash lights, turn signals, or gas gauge. It looks to be that there is a ground that went to my ECU from the combination meter. I am looking into it now. I was never notified about this from my wiring guy.

Also a friend of mine has an outback grill that I can buy and hack up for a mesh grill. :grin:

Wow a complement from you! I am honored. :wink: Anyways I still have the boxer sound, but would like a Uel type sound. The car feels amazing and taking the corners and turns rip the tires up and slide nicely. As soon as you touch the pedal it puts all the power down. No waiting for it to spool. You can definately get an H6 in there then you will have the best BD in the world, looks and power wise! :twisted:

No no no auto! I am planning a 5-speed swap as soon as I build a tranny.

On the Svx boards there has never been an attempt to swap a 5eat into an Svx so there would be no info at all for me if I even considered it. Not to mention I would have to make a full harness to munipulate the 05+ LGT signals.

Yeah I already have the exhaust at the house. I'll have the Car/ Engine in a couple weeks but I won't start working on it for a month after that. I need to sell my hydras so I can buy a Vi-Pec V88 and re-do the wiring myself as a stand alone so I can swap the EZ into my car easier.

Internally, no not yet. I am going to keep it N/A for at least the first year but I would like at some point to Drop compression and Supercharge it with an Eaton MP90. The intake manifold setup I am doing for it should be pretty sick. I need to finish drawing up the prototype in cad so I can get the pieces cut. It will be a surge tank style with velocity stacks inside. I'll be using 2 WRX Throttle Bodies and running them reversed into 2 panel filters placed under the radiator core support. It will be like a v-mount but with intake filters instead of an intercooler. The top of the intake manifold will be flanged so I can put a lexan cover over the top so you can see the Velocity stacks and I'll laser it with some cool engine branding, Name, WHP, etc... I am going to jazz up the engine by and make new crossmembers to move the engine and tranny back 5" so I can get more room upfront and better weight distribution. But I thinking of making a header that kind of looks like the Borla for the H6 and put a small X-pipe in it so it wouldn't be a true dual but it would sound very interesting. We'll see when I get the car and start fiddling with it.

I am thinking of getting a shop to customize shit of my own then friends and then customers. I am about to start my own HVAC business so that is the route I am going for now. I an gathering up the tools I need to make the job easier. Where did you get your knowledge from or do you just learn fast like me and play trial and error? I like your idea to move the engine back that would eliminate the issue with no room up front. I will keep an eye on your build thread. Btw where are you located?

Its not that bad! You could do it. Anyways found out my timing was off when I removed the covers and that was causing my rough idle. Runs great now and idles at the correct rpm. Looking at getting a gauge pod to keep a better eye on things.

Just spoke with this guy and he can get me all the bends together with mild steel for 250 plus ground shipping (about 15 bucks) He will have the flanges, collector, and bends that I request after measuring height and length. He is going to leave the tubes long so I can cut and have the collector tacked in where I want it. Is steel going to be a problem over stainless? Can someone do better for the money? Thanks.

I tried clening it off with a meduim epoxy clener, but it just stripped the paint off to the primer. Damn now I have to live with them like this for a week or two then sand and put another coat on them. I hate my life right now.

What? Dry for a week? Not true, at least not on any of the wheels ive painted. The paint you are using must need a lot of heat to cure. You could bake the wheel in an oven.

Looks good man. Must of been a PIA to tape the red like that. You would have to get that tape perfectly on edge. What paint did you use? I doesnt have much of a gloss to it like mine did.

Good luck trying to get that aluminum off. I just stripped the clear, sanded it down and primed over it. Smooth finish. The gold id a pia. If I were to strip the gold off again I would do one spoke at a time with the stripper. That stuff is hard to come off. All in all painting stockers gives them a different look.

Get some safety goggles and gloves. Wear long sleeves and full length jeans.


Buy one of these: (the finer the thread, the better your wheels will come out. In this case, you might want to pick up 2 to do 4 wheels.

Go to town on said wheel. Make sure you don't apply too much pressure when you're using the wire wheel.
Anything left over, just go back with appropriate sand paper to sand off. Makes the job a hell of alot easier.

Man I could not imagine that stuff flinging around everywhere using that wheel. I just used a copper fitting cleaning brush to clean them off. That brush you have pictured will not really get between the spokes.

I got myself another full set of used 205/55/16s with really good rubber. Fusion HRi. I only paid 30 bucks a piece. I think I found my new used tire place. I just have to get them balanced since their balancer was not working.

I'd love to but I plan on putting my little 2.5 back in after the rebuild to make sure the car as a whole works, once I know how sound it is as a whole car then I might have some fun, but for now I'm going to play it safe. A fellow Svx guy (that I delivered to recently) was heading down from New York and was passing through PA and dropped off 2 Granite Pearl rattle can mix and touch up paint mixed by subaru. My ride is going to look mint next spring! Going to fill in any deep scratches, weld a plate on my quarter rust then fill and paint, paint my GT rear lip, and go some interior outlines the same color as the body. Hey, looking at putting the EG33 into a 90 legacy. Been reading up tons on both httrd and StatGSR builds. Only thing im seriously concerned about is trans. I can get an EG cheap but its an auto (obviously) and i want to bolt it to a 5spd MT. I know the bolt patterns are all good and match, but its the flywheel and clutch im curious about. Any chance an EJ set up will bolt to the EG??
Any extra info regarding trans stuff would be great

I drove 3 hours each way to NYC to sell a bunch of parts of the SVX and make 400 bucks so project long tubes is now ready. I am calling the company in Cali to specially design almost complete long tubes today. Already have new o2 sensors and located my high flow cat. :smt029 Stand by for updates.

i meant 2.2 cable tranny...yes you can use a 2.5 clutch with those (i am right now in my car) and I am saying you should in the case of a eg33 swap because the difference between a 2.2 and 2.5 na clutch is the diameter of the friction disc (2.5 is larger). Also aftermarket 2.5 na clutches are available, while your not going to find much of anything in the way for a "stage 2" 2.2 clutch.

Ok this guy was trying to keep uping the price on those set even when not welded, so I am working with a race shop (builds drag and sprint cars) to build a set of long tubes.

I went to an auto parts place and spent about an hour and a half looking for what I need. I ended up only buying a Magnaflow 2 1/2" high flow cat and 2 Standard (Lifetime Warrenty) o2 sensors. Need to find a 1 5/8" (X3) x 2 1/2" or a 1 3/4" (X3) x 2 1/2" merge collector then I can get the piping. I saved like 40 bucks today since we knew people at A&A Auto!

Ordered the flanges from the company you recommended Stat. Looks like everything is ordered so building starts next week. I cannot wait to see how they are going to sound! Also planning on pulling the intake mani off and replacing all of my brittle vac lines. I found some broken and they are causing problems.

The set I got a chance to drive a few hundred miles in sounded nice but scrapped on real bumpy roadways with bad rear struts, probably fine on a lego though and I'm sure was improved in later design. practice first how to make straight lines, then go to welding two pieces together straight/90 degree angle, then go to pipes, by the way what type of welder are you planning on getting? if you get stick make sure it has more than just low/high setting as a lot of times you'll need more to compensate for amperage/stick thickness/metal thickness/temperature, i've tried welding many times my father used to do it for 20+ years but it a takes very long time to get perfect espessially with stick, if you go MIG, TIG ask on forums what else should you watch out for. gl. oh and make sure not to burn thru its much easier than you'd think

I got me a Craftsman auto feed MIG tonight for 60 bucks! Drove almost 2 hours round trip to get it so total with gas about 85 bucks. The wire feed is not catching, but already found the right part at sears for 20 bucks! Grand total is 105.

Your going to want to get a tank and gas don't waste your time with fluxcore. I personally find tubing the easiest to weld, as long as your gaps are tight. Just get a length of tube, cut it up into 1-2" chunks, and weld them back together.

I just finished swapping an eg33 into my 4eat 1995 legacy. The eg runs great no cel's and pulls really hard. I am having problems with merging the 4eat tcu with the eg33 ecu. It won't shift out of 2nd, and shifts hard. Got any tips or diagrams from how you got your tcu to shift properly? There seems to be a few differences in the pinout labels and description.

I got it figured out enough to get the car shifting right, still a few bugs left to work out.

Basically..... I replicated the TCU to ECU interface from the 1995 legacy by splicing into the signals from the OBD1 svx ecu.

In total there are 7 wires that go from the leg TCU to the leg ECU on my 1995. I have 5 of them figured out and spliced, but don't know what to do with the last 2 wires.

#1. B56-19 ----- B60-3 ======TPS power
#2. B54-8 ------ B60-2 ====== TPS signal

The good:
-The car shifts fine through all four gears. It pulls hard and acts normal, although maybe a little to aggressive on the up-shifts due to the lack of a Torque Control Cut Signal.

The Bad:
-The torque converter will not lock-up at highway speeds.
-Flashing ATF light on start up, 16 flashes........but cannot read the codes.


I used a "Dakota digital" tach signal adapter to get the tach reading right. Idles steady at 700rpm and pulls 3000 rpm at 100kph.

Make a build thread and we can help you all we can. Not sure what you mean about the highway torque converter lock up. At 70 mph I am running 4500 rpm (never converted racy) so I would say 2500.

Your tach is reading 33% high. So you are actually pulling 2970rpm at 70mph. Thats the same as mine, I guess your TQ converter is not locking up either.

I decided I can no longer stand this color of wheels so they are going all black by this week! Maybe a little red on the outside lip. Just not as much. Also started sanding and preping my interior pieces. Going black with a little gloss with a fine red outline (barely noticeable) to go with the theme. I just love black and red. I will post up pics of the transformation.

I have a plan. :shock: Why not take EL headers add another pipe to the run of each header, cut the flange off, tie in the new H6 flange I have, weld them up, cut pipes and add the 3-1 collector, and go from there using the Y coming off the header then tie in a hfc and my SS cat back. What do you guys think?

Looks promising!!

Basically its 2/3 complete to start with. :smt023
Then you only need to fab up a small portion and tie it all together. Don't forget it needs one O2 sensor for each head, so just add a bung into your new pipe on each side.

BTW not sure if you ever got your temp gauge working......

Here is what I did to get the CTS gauge working.
-wiring for the CTS is located on connector "C" on the cluster
-Pin C9 "purple wire" should be from the CTS
-Pin C10 "Black/Red" cut this wire and run it straight to one of the dash grounds or any good clean ground...CTS will now work as normal.

Going to attack rust this weekend along with other projects. Bust up the rust on my rear quarters and weld a plate in there. Bondo, prep and paint. Also going to tear out the capet and dye black with this stuff. I will post before and after pics.

Pulled the carpet and man is it a mess! Since a lot of the interior was torn apart it was much easier to get the carpet out. Vacuumed and wahsed it today so ready for dye tomorrow. Going to use the spray bottle and brush method to get it deep inside. Pics to follow later.

Lol that's funny but true. It should look good. I did some research and most have had good luck with it. Mostly the results are in the prep work like anything else.

Be prepared for a noisy ride, I had to do the same thing when i died my carpet.

Thanks guys yea it is really easy, just give it a day or two to dry for sure. This weather here has been horrible to get anything to dry. Lol. I have it sitting in the sun right now and it is dry. I am going to take it to the good vacuums at the car wash to get it good and clean then I bought some Scotchgaurd fabric protectant and going to put about three coats on the carpet before install. It will be in by tonight and fully assembled interior for a late night pic.

Ok I took it to the vac today and used that same brush dry and scuffed the carpet up. Then I thoroughly vacuummed the carpet. I am going to scotchgaurd it, but the question is do I shampoo it first or just scotchgaurd it? What have you guys done?

I'm not sure how I'd feel about shampooing it so soon but then again I know nothing about the subject. Just seems it would break up the dye really quickly.

I'd think that shampooing the carpet may not be the best idea on a newly dyed carpet. Maybe just run some water through it to remove the excess let dry then scotchgaurd.

I'd say it's worth an extra 10 bucks and some time to make sure you don't have to pull the carpet out again. I was talking to my mom about this the other day and she said she used to dye cloths back in the day with RIT and she always had to do it twice.

Honestly sounds like and looks like more work than just building them from scratch. trying to cut up and best use what is already there with a H4 EL Header is going to be a major pain, and the best parts about using it will go to waste anyway (4-1 collector). Also that design could use way pipe and bends than what would be needed for an H6, there is no need to have the curl on the passenger side with the h6. idk, i could be wrong, but i would feel better about making them from scratch.

I think I am going to just take a dry cloth and scuff the carpet to see how much it removes. If there is still a lot then I will make the decision of what to do. I need to reassemble my damn interior. Lol.

Btw the carpet met rain today and a little bit was wiping off. Going to go over it this weekend and wipe it down with a wet rag and let it dry then test it again. This happens with anything you dye apperently. There is alway some residue for a little while until it wears off. Oh yea and it is installed back in the car and it looks great!

Going to sand them down a little and paint them with that same stuff. Very durable stuff and shiny. Black rims look great and the center caps with the symbol have carbon fiber.

As played as it is I LOVE black on gold, and depending on the wheel/car white can be pretty bad ass too.

IMO should have painted them something obnoxious like lime green or highlighter orange :lol:

Edit: How is the carpet holding up? You said it had faded a bit in one spot, are you using floor mats?

Capet is holding up great. It just needed time to settle in. What I meant is that when it rained hard one day and I had the windows cracked water got on the carpet. That is when the dye was coming off. Now if I wipe it with a we rag nothing comes off. I would say that if you are short on time you can still do this just avoid touching it for about a week Aka floor mats. Oh and not going for the murdered out look.
