It's nice out here... Though I'm having a hard time convincing a girl not to move back to NJ... She hates our weather, but it's been a freaking weird year for sure!

I think I might pull my driver side trim and re-finish it... Looks horrible! Same with my side skirts... ugh...

I had to drive from NH to VA for a friend's wedding recently, passing through NJ. Any New Englander's sentiment would be: WHY WOULD YOU WILLING GO TO NEW JERSEY??

My AC is way colder than I expected, booya! Hope it lasts!

Dead91silvia

Well, I dont know much about New Jersey, but she loves it there, but she also grew up there. I'm hoping that the crazy hot weather we are having right now might change her mind. She is loving it right now, but I dont think enough to stay. I dont mind maybe moving out there, but my GT is 100% rust free and I would like to keep it that way!

As for what I got done... I pulled off my side skirts and re-painted them (already had everything I needed)... Then pulled off my crappy flaking paint trim on the driver side. Figured out that it was side swiped at one time, 2 new doors. New trim will go on tomorrow....

Then I decided to change out my right finder since I killed it hitting a snow bank on Mt Rainer this last winter, at least it was fun when I did it!... She looks like a ghetto ride right now with all the missing parts! hahaha... I'll have it back together tomorrow after work...

And the cost for all the parts and paint... Like $50....

NJ IS FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!! We literally have absolutely everything you could ever want in a small enough space to not worry about driving anywhere. wanna go to the beach? 1 hour max. wanna go to the mountains? right there....sorta haha.

honestly NJ is awesome. sure everyone thinks its shitty b4 they live here, but here's a fun fact for people that think NJ is just a big petro depot.

NJ HAS MORE FARMS AND HORSE RANCHES THEN TEXAS. true fact lol. sure theirs are bigger, but we actually have more.

That explains why NJ always smells like ass. ;P

To be honest, there are parts of Jersey that are beautiful, as long as you stay away from I95, Newark and Camden. I don't dislike Jersey, I just dislike driving in Jersey. Between the drivers (both NY and NJ drivers suck), the GSP, and jug handles (for those who do not know, left turns seem to be illegal in NJ), I look for any way I can to get out.

Gas is cheaper there than NY at least. And one of the greatest things to come outta Jersey, Kevin Smith!!

If you have an Autopart International around you, go with them. They use NEW shafts, not rebuilt units and they are about 70 bucks or so. And surprisingly the front shafts are the same for the SVX as they are for the 2nd gen leg so when I had 3 of them sitting around I didn't have to worry about mixing them up.

Glad the power doesn't dip after 5,500 RPM like it used to with the snorkus in though. For more on the problem with removing the snorkus see the definitive NASIOC thread: A Problem with CAI/SRIs and an Alternative (yes, finally) (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1471819).

I drive an impreza now, but my heart will always be in a legacy ;-). Rear brakes are from a 94 Legacy Turbo! Same part as the JDM V2 STI impreza. Single piston sliding calipers with fat vented rotors. Balance is fine for a street car, I haven't had a chance to autocross it yet. If anything the balance with the old brakes (USDM 07 wrx fronts and the Leggy Turbo rears) was a little too much in the tail, previous owner's wife locked up rear brakes enough to spin out several times last winter.

No hating because she's a girl...She routinely wrecked me every autocross no matter what I drove, in the very car I now own.

With the car running, look at the fuel injectors for cylinders 2 and 4. If it is missing, just press on the clips like you would be seating them and see if the miss goes away. If you have to change the clips, you won't find them at the stealership. I found mine on ebay for $18 shipped for all 4 clips or harnesses.

Not a PITA at all, it's a 30 minute job with a 3/8" drive ratchet set. Remove the water fluid tank and air box and it all becomes a lot easier to get to. Having a variety of extensions helps too.

I can finally post something in this thread, but no pics unfortunately. Last night, I did the following:

1. Disconnected the DRL plug, though it took a while to find the module, as it was in a different location than pictures indicated for the BE.
2. Polished up the tip and muffler on the Magnaflow muffler. When I got the car it had severe surface rust, so I cleaned it up with Mothers, and then decided to do the back half of the muffler as well. Nice and shiny now, really cleans up the back of the car.
3. I attempted to fix my cigarette lighter, only to discover there was absolutely no electrical connection in the well. Looks like I'll need to go buy one before my roadtrip to Virginia this weekend.

I also discovered that my Check Engine light is either burnt out or missing, and given the history of the car (dealership seemed a little crooked), I have to wonder if it's on and they pulled the bulb so the car would sell. Looks like I've got some dash pulling work to do this weekend.

BTW, any active members on here from the Charlottesville, VA area? I'm going up for a job interview on Monday, and looking to move back to that area. I'm originally from Waynesboro.

I have to point out that it's ironic that Neon coils are getting swapped in Subaru motors, because 5 years ago, swapping to the Subaru coil in the Neon world was all the rage! Then they realized they weren't really getting any gains.

yeah i know lol i didnt wanna take it to a shop for diagnosis but i had to so 120 bucks for all oem parts and my labor ill take it little high but not to bad only problem will be the plugs they seem like a "PITA"

Not a PITA at all, it's a 30 minute job with a 3/8" drive ratchet set. Remove the water fluid tank and air box and it all becomes a lot easier to get to. Having a variety of extensions helps too.

Make sure you get NGK's.... Autolight's are crap.... Getting the plugs at Subaru is not much more then other parts stores. They are good for like 60K anyway.

And he's right, it's not as bad as you think changing the plugs. It might take you a little longer then 30 minutes, but not to bad.

As for how much they were gonna charge, holy crap! I have a small mechanic business and I would have charged $50 labor for plugs and wires on an N/A 2.5. I dont know how people can afford to pay that much or even shops charge that much. It's freaking plugs and wires on a Subaru! Not a Ford Aerostar! (the biggest PITA plugs I have ever changed)...

I think I'm gonna work on my EGR system today. Kinda getting tired of seeing my check engine light on with a 0400 code.... haha

Yeah, I'm not a fan of big shops and what they charge. My sister got billed for a crap load of parts of her Blazer a few years ago. Bill was $2000 after they replaced the complete ignition system, fuel pump, and a few other things... All it ended up being was a bad one injector. They still charged her $2000 for a freaking injector on a 94 S10 Blazer! I was pissed!

Anyway... haha... I just fixed my EGR system. That little hard line that come up from the intake by the EGR valve was plugged like a mother! I also painted the hard lines and the EGR valve, I know no purpose, but I just don't care and it looks kinda cool! Working on your car, doing stupid little thing to it is the best therapy for a messed up week sometimes...

well the whole thing with shops is the mark up. most thinks are marked up 100% to 300%. then labor booktime(alldata) on a DOHC head is 2.4 hrs. $400 is on the high part. you should see a reasonable shop charge less then low $300's. but shops are out to get there money. spark plugs are easy enough to do in 1 hour, even if you have individual coil packs on a turbo motor.

We figured out what was wrong . The plugs were capped at 0.050-0.065 when specs said it should be at 0.044. Not to mention 3 bocsh plugs and one ngf... All the Bosch were burnt to a crisp. So got it all figured out and the check engine light came on when I drove it. I think the plugs were so bad the computer has to reset the map sensor now. Also threw In a k&n drop in filter. ^^^ I think that needs an instructional video

It's a good technique - just pop the fuel line onto the top of the spark plug and put it in the hole. Start threading it, and then pull the fuel line to pop it off the spark plug.

Really, the EJ motor doesn't even require this - I've never cross-threaded a plug. The flat-4 is exactly perpendicular to the ground - I just pop the plug onto the spark plug socket (you ARE using a rubber-lined spark plug socket right??) with a short extension and hand thread the plug. Never just go at it with a wrench - you should be able to tell if you're cross-threading simply based on the resistance of the plug as you thread it...

As for your door... The door indicator light on the dash comes from the little switch on the B-pillar, right under the stricker for the front door. PS lines aren't tough to replace. The low pressure lines are just oil resistant rubber hose and good clamps. The high pressure line, if it needs replacing, just bite the bullet and get a new one from Subaru, they're not THAT bad price wise. (I know someone at a southshore dealership if you need better pricing on things) I replaced all of the lines in the SVX and had to replace the cooler with an aftermarket one because it rusted through.

cut out the infected sections, used rust dissolver in the surounding areas, rustoleum primer then fiberglass backing for the hole, more primer, then bondo!

the humidity is so bad it took an entire 24 hours for the fiberglass to stop being tacky, and it seems to be having the same effects on the bondo hopefully it will have set completely so i can begin sanding and get a good coat of primer and paint on it so it doesn't look so white trashy...

Looks good dude!!
What size tire did you end up going with? And the rims, are those stock 15 steelies?

have fun!!

Ooh and for SubaruJawn
I think Leggos on OB struts ARE a touch taller than OBs stock, b/c the outbacks have little lowering blocks to drop the engine, tranny, driveline and rear diff. Leggos on OBs get a bit steeper axle angles though. It's fine so long as you don't go too high (> 2") over stock ride height.

did a MUCH needed oil change and air filter. Air filter was BLACK! Guess I need to check that more often. Also seafoamed the intake. 1/3 can in the pcv, set for about 7-8 min, restarted and... started up easy and hardly any smoke? Did I do something wrong or was my engine just that clean?? Anyway put the rest of the can in the tank. We'll see if I notice any difference.

No Stu..... That's a Turbo Intercooler, not an airbox. Sorry.

You can buy or make something similar and it's here on the site somewhere, where others have attempted the same set up as well as a member of another site was making airboxes for what you're looking for. Sorry, but I do have to say; you can search here for it as my search bar doesnt show on my cell.

One outing, 5 runs each around 1:20, all second gear, relatively high speed for autocross. 2-5 minutes of idling before each run. I double checked everything, I'm pretty sure it had no effect on my fuel economy. I'm blown away; or at least, very confused. I haven't been driving any different, maybe just a little less AC use. Only other possibility is that the gas pump stopped early, we'll see if the poor fuel economy shows up next fill.

Just had to buy a new tire... I got a nice 1/4 slice right in the middle of the tread... They said they couldnt fix it, but they had a used one for $25... I'm not ready to spend $450 on new tires yet...

(this weekend) Sold my Forester and took my Outback on it's first long shakedown run to Idaho and back. She performed flawlessly, and my only complaint is that in fifth gear,
my Outback does 61mph at 3k rpm, while
my Forester does 73mph at the same RPM

I mean it's sweet to be able to pass in 5th and all, but when the speed limit is 70mph, the outback sucks down the gas, relatively speaking, and the engine noise is annoying.

98 Foresters and RS's have the same gear ratios, so I think there's gonna be a tranny swap in my future.
