Thanks man! They hadn't worked in a while but when they did, the power came in handy while in the mountains at night. But now that I live in Miami, these will probably stay off until someone cuts me off.
The switch is the second to most expensive heavy duty switch I could find at Ace Hardware and the wire is 16-18 gauge I think. Don't quote me on that.
You know that if you wire them in correctly using relays you don't need any special heavy duty switch right? For safety reasons you should never have that much power running into the cabin and through a switch. With a proper relay setup all the high current stays in the engine bay from the battery, through the relay, and to the lights.

Well it was a couple of days ago but since this is my first day as a member here, I'll list it any way. I changed out the old extremely dirty Fram air filter for a new K&N replacement Air filter (part #33-2154). I could tell the difference right away. My next project... not big but to replace the Spark Plugs since I just got the car and have no idea when that was last done.
Be careful as to which spark plugs you get. And welcome to the site! (A little late, but hey...)

Thanx! and is there a certain brand/type I should stay away from? or something that would be recommended or preferred? I'm thinking about using a Bosch Fine Wire Iriduim 9607 Plug (Part #9607) to replace whatever is in there. I put a similar Bosch model Plug in my last car and it worked great.

Thats the exact brand you don't want to put in a Subaru, or most any other car for that matter. Go with an NGK plug. Anything from the coppers to platinum to iridium are good, just get the correct plug and heat range for your motor.

In B4 Greenspeed buys it back from you.
Last night I pulled a BMW which I use to own out of the cold, wet, muddy grass. I felt it was fairly poetic that the car I replaced the 5-series with was more than willing to rescue it's predecessor.

Is there any specific reason for that? Li?e that Bosch plugs aren't as good for it? Just wondering what makes it not good for Subaru's.

Changed my spark plugs and wires. The plugs were worn pretty bad. I am shocked it ran so well. In changing the plugs, I see that I have to change the valve cover gaskets. That could explain my oil consumption, which isn't that terrible. Less than a half a quart between oil changes.

They should come on the GTs. If I'm correct, only the L models never got the light up ring (I never got it either). It is possible that the early model GTs (00-02) didn't get it.
I'll have to research. I was always under the impression Limited and GT models got the illuminated key ring, and L did not.

For subarus I have found that the dealer OEM parts are cheaper than MOOG and easier to get.
I differ (at least for outer tie rod ends.
I saved anywhere from $1100- 2Gs depending on dealer quote (3 dealers, 3 different quotes, same question) doing my above axles, bearings and all tie rods myself.
Although, I needed my buddy's press and his air tools didn't hurt either.
half shaft, $359.95ea dealer
rock auto $32
dealer moog outer 59.95 ea
rock auto moog 22.79 ea (albeit with zerks and needing greese, but still ;)
At any rate, just sayin' If you've got a dealer hook up, USE IT and those that don't shall remain jealous ;)
Not being so timid and doing more and bigger jobs on this car amkes me happy in a few ways, only one of which is seeing the money savings.

I know how that is, the only things I let dealers or shops do to my cars is tires and alignments, oil changes if its cold, since i don't have a garage, if they have a deal that would be similar price to me doing it myself. I save so much on labor costs and checking around for prices at local parts stores its not funny. and it feels good to know that YOU were the one to diagnose and fix your car... even if it does take longer than a skilled mechanic with all the right tools at a dealer haha.
1995 Legacy L- attempted to diagnose running issue. reset computer, changed spark plug wires, changed coil, nothing really worked. The coil made the biggest difference, though, and it ran amazing for about three miles after resetting the computer. But it's still screwy.
1997 Legacy Brighton- Removed front bumper cover, test-fitted GT cover. I either need to get me the GT bumper beam, or grind down the stock one... Or cut up the bumper... I'm not sure which. bumper's plastic, though... might be easier.
Also, I think this car already has a Neon coil pack... not positive, though.

Check the injectors, fuel rail, fuel filter, fuel pump. Some chevron techtron from aap is 13$ plus u get another one for free. And it cleans the whole system as fuel system.
If u choose to not go that route try some seafoam down the vacuum line that connects the brake booster and plenum (with the car running ull need assistance with the car keeping alive when u disconnect the hose off the booster) pour about 1/2 the can slowly into the line into he plenum. The rest of the can dump it in ur gas tank. Let let it sit for 30 minutes then turn her over and let idle 5-10 minutes and watch the smoke show. Al the smoke will be the carbons and other nasty stuff that was in ur long block. After the allotted idling time take it for a spin and get rid of the rest of the smoke. See how it works then. It worked awesome for my bk

Ya you gotta match up the bumper cover with the beam for it to fit perfect.
Replaced the water pump bypass hose today and I guess flushed the coolant as well. The hose had a pinhole in it and was leaking when it got hot. That hose was so old and crappy I was shocked it didn't rip apart when I removed it. Everything went surprisingly smooth and the car is all back together and works great!

I've heard the same but I'd rather go 3M dual sided adhesive. That shit works very epic. Velcro I'm sure would look nice while driving thru town but at highway speeds I'm sure ull be back on eBay looking for new skirts lol. There's also diff graded 3M tape I know the 10lbs adhesive will not let u down

Dude, mine has the same issue. Runs the family I suppose.
Mine was very loud; it would become obnoxious and loud around 1000-1100 RPMs. It was so loud in fact, that people from afar would turn around in horror to see what was making the noise. They were probably expecting to see some rust bucket about to disintegrate before their eyes! I finally put the car up on ramps and semi lightly tapped each one with a mallet until I found the problem shield. Ahh the sweet sound of silence. :smt023
After I posted the pic of my hose clamped heat shield, I decided to vacuum out my parent's 4th gen Outback. Well the simple vacuum turned into a full detail of the interior. I wish I took a before and after picture...mother of god was it filthy. Sand, garbage, grit, leaves, and so much dog hair I could've sculpted a new German Shepherd out all of it. Not to mention the grime smudged all over the armrest and leather trim by the door handles. It probably hasn't been this clean since it left the dealer's lot in 2011! Yay, I love a clean car!

Got halfway through replacing a steering knuckle today. Original problem was a bad ball joint. I made the mistake of trying to pry the pinch slot with a pickle fork, ripped the tabs clean off...Got a replacement knuckle from the junkyard, had a shot wheel bearing...then found out it was the wrong side to begin with. I took it back, got the proper side, good bearing, and it came with *gasp* a good ball joint! The only problem was the boot was ripped when they pulled it off the car, I just took the boot off my recently-purchased joint, re-packed it and put it on the one in the knuckle...I'm not gonna bother replacing a good part....HOWEVER...It seems the outer tie-rod castle nut has grown legs and run off...so I didn't get finished, picking up a new nut (or 10) tomorrow.

I washed my 97 and changed its dirty as death oil. Weighed cammed EJ25D vs stock EJ205 in my head again. That game never really ends.

well I went to go to a unplowed cul-de-sac past the gas station I was going to (basically a place for semi drivers to turn around and/or park to sleep.) Anyway was gonna do a few doughnuts in the 3 inches of new snow we got and as I'm about to start whipping some fish tails as I'm coming into the cul-de-sac I notice there is a state trooper sitting off to the side of it with doughnut marks from one car throughout the cul-de-sac... Leading right up to the state trooper who was chowin down on some arbys from the gas station. I laughed and pulled a u-turn to leave like i just was wondering what was back there.. I actually like it. very smooth and comfortable, yet still has some get up and go for 170hp. (coming from high hp cars i would actually by one to daily drive)
we did the tristate drive today, after 180 miles i only used 1/4 tank. and still have over 300 miles left to empty. this is with mixed driving thru the mtns and some highway driving. we saw a 2012 and the 2013 front end is much more aggresive than previous models. heated seats and moonroof top off the interior.

^^^ Interesting. I suppose that FB with variable valve timing actually works. 180 miles on a 1/4 tank is excellent. Especially for a full size AWD sedan.

hahA yeah he had a crown Vic. I wish I could found one of the troopers with the undercover cars. I.e.: Camaro, charger, challenger, and 1 or 2 more that slip my mind right now. Ha he had to know I was back there to do the same thing. Wonder if he would have done anything if I would have still done it. Wasn't gonna try n see though! :P

I did the all motor thing. 186/212 whp/wtq on a built 253 in a GF4. It was fun. This is more. Gotta pay to play! You'll NEVER get the power out of a boxer engine NA than with a turbo motor.. dollar for dollar turbo is more efficent.
And I should have been on my second turbo! If that fucking banjo bolt had been right.

Installed all brand spankin' new license plate bolts. Yeeeees, bow down before my god-like wrenching abilities.
Also washed and vacuumed. Big surprise, eh?

Ooh, love a fresh set of license plate bolts. Rusty ones look gross.
I ordered Continental ExtremeContactDWS tires for my summer shoes for the Forester. Looking forward to that and putting on the new suspension!

I tightened down my oil drain plug apparently I forgot to. It was about a turn from tight so I didn't lose to much oil.

^^^ Ha, yeah. The engine showed up for sale a little after I told you something along the lines of "NA FOR EVAR!" It's complete, broken in and has Weisco forged pistons.
And I'll for sure hit you up. You, Flash and Anothernod as I plan on running Emanage Ultimate. My goal is to have it swapped, running and tuned by the fall.

Be careful with emanage.. I went down that road and its a slippery slope. A lot of tuners don't care for it. It can be a serious PITA to tune.
Are you planning on road tuning yourself? Or going somewhere?

The plan is to get the base map safe and Dyno tune it. I'm planning on using 25D heads for wiring purposes. I've heard decent things about Emanage but also, some ghost stories. Do you recommend another EM that's not outrageous?

Well depending on what your states emissions laws are.. I would suggest a megasquirt or aem standalone. Can you go full standalone in florida?

While the car is currently in Florida, it will end up being built and live its life in Tennessee (or so I hope). Either way, emission testing doesn't matter.
I would love AEM Standalone but the price bothers me a bit. Megasquirt is a whole different animal. While I've have a good friend who is well versed in tuning the box - albeit with a M20 BMW - the building process would take up more time than I'd like.
It all will end up depending on what heads I use really. If anything, there's always IWire so I can run an OEM WRX ECU with 205 heads.
Put the radiator in my Brighton, smoked the corners of the headlights, and cut the plastic trim to fit over the strut bar.

I did detail my GMC and found a rats nest in the engine bay! errrr....

Ever heard of zephyr? $500. One week turn around. Awesome merges. He did my last one when I was feeling lazy
There is a company that custom builds megasquirts for a couple extra bucks to suit whatever your needs are, though I can't remember the name off the top o f my head.
Also, the aem is a bit pricey.. BUT it works. Great to use and universally accepted by most tuners.
Because of emissions laws in ct I had to go wrx ecu. I'm tuned opensourced and have no regrets.

I haven't but now it's another option. Thanks man!
AEM would be ideal. I know eekay has it for his hybrid set up which uses the same heads that I would prefer to run (25Ds with Delta Cams) and his BG seems to be stout. I would just have to hunt for a good deal.
I'll talk to the dyno shop that will tune the car before hand regarding the EMS. I just have to handle one issue at a time and this swap isn't pressing.

NOOOO!!!! Why?! Radiator plastic coupler for the upper hose cracked/broke this morning as I was backing out of the garage. Placed an order for a new OEM replacement as I'm already starting to buy things to replace/upgrade my brakes.
Well, I may not know much about Subarus, but one thing I do know is that the radiators on BKs are a breeze to do. IIRC, you have a 5mt, so it'll be even easier than on mine since you won't have trans cooler lines to fight.

New tires / alignment on the car today. Needs to go back tomorrow to have the alignment re-done, still drifting to the right. Pinned down the chirpy squeak on my front driver side wheel, low brakes / ugly rotors that have been turned too many times, to be fixed before the trip back home (to OH from SC). Still debating on replacing crankshaft pulley, too broke to really afford it, and it'd cost 1/3rd what I paid for the car in the first place, wobbles a little bit (like barely noticeable) when rotating, brushing against timing belt cover. Timing belt cover bolts are tight as they'll get, cover doesn't seem to seat properly.

Oh yes they are pretty easy, but you know. Things break always at the wrong time and you have to work around it. I guess it was all ok in the end because today wasn't just another boring day of work.
I have a 4EAT, and there is definitely a transmission cooler on the old and new radiator. I'm replacing those lines as well. But still, it's just 2 lines, and super easy. Just a little time consuming.
Buy new hose for the cooler. Do not argue with me. You have the same car as me. therefore the same hoses. The wiggling involved in the removal from the radiator WILL cause them to split. I know this the hard way.

Will do then! Were there specific hoses you had to buy formed to fit perfectly? Or did you just buy a few feet of hose and cut to fit?
I just bought a few feet. two should be enough. I can't remember the diameter for sure, think it was 3/8 inch trans cooler line. Make sure you specify what it's for, too. there was a mix up the first time with me and I almost bought 3/8 inch fuel line.
