Bought wipers for the 98 and a cabin filter for the 09. Just waiting on the other stuff I ordered to show up. Oh and why the hell can't Subaru make changing cabin filters as easy as Acura. I just did the one in my mom's TSX. Its three clips to let the glove box hang down and the filter is right there. It took all of 4 mins. Took longer to change the wipers on that car.

Welded up my exhaust. Pulled the motor again and went through everything the mechanic supposedly did. Rrsealed the oil separator plate, new Orings on the wrist pin covers and will be replacing the rear main seal again as it loOKs like it was leaking also aND wasn't seated evenly. Welded in my wideband bung and cleaned up some wiring. Also threw the emu in the car, fired right up.

Well, when I bedlinered the sub box I got I ran out of bedliner before I could finish. The side I thought would be the bottom was bare. It sounds best with that side facing the back of the trunk and the sub pointed up. Since I have no bedliner but did have stickers, I did this.

Flushed the brake fluid on my car. From all the maintenance records I was given I didn't find one regarding a brake bleed or flush, the fluid came out like pitch black and I found quite a few bubbles too. Now I at least have some confidence in my brakes!
Just gotta do rotors and pads, I wish the OEM wheels weren't so small or else I'd just upgrade rotors and calipers.

It's not bad with the 2.5 either...

Update on the Forester. The cam seal fell out. The leaking oil managed to ruin the timing belt tensioner ($$) and the belt needs to be replaced. What really pisses me off is that the place that did the timing belt job last year said all of the seals & gaskets were fine when I mentioned replacing them. Now I'm out another $600ish w/ parts & labor because they didn't just put some new seals in for another $40 the first time.

I cleaned my IACV today in an effort to fix an occasional erratic idle on cold starts! I soaked it with gasoline and it flushed so much crap and grime out of it. No wonder idle would sometimes be pushing 2200+ rpms on cold starts...the valve that's attached to the shaft thing had so much carbon buildup that it would get stuck.

Reinstalled it and took it it for a test drive. Not only was the idle smooth as silk, but a slight hesitation on acceleration issue is gone as well. Hooray for cheap and easy fixes!

I may have fixed my rough idle issues with the 05! I finally found another air leak where a small hose had come undone when installing a new Samco BPV hose. The car was running unusually smooth after the install. We'll see if a CEL pops up.

The 95 gets a new front left caliper today. It's freezing and dragging on the rotor only in cold weather. It could be the source of the small brake fluid leak the car has had since the install of the new brake parts almost a year and a half ago. Only time will tell.

Fixed some leaks in the fuel lines that were causing the car to smell like gas when warming up. As I understand it's pretty common on these cars. In the cold, the rubber hoses shrink and start leaking. Was just a matter of tightening down the clamps.

Picked the coldest day of the year so far to do it too. :p

But the leak was starting to get pretty bad and right over the engine block too, so I figured I should take care of it before my car catches on fire.

After 10 years lowered 2 1/2" on coils and Bugeye struts, I had the pleasure of raising my old car (Eet Snau) for the current owner. Now rides on Outback suspension.

I picked it up and drove it 35 miles to my shop, swapped out the old suspension for the new one and then delivered it on the new suspension. To deliver the car. I must say what a difference..... I've been on spring break so my car has been getting some Springtime touchups and detailing; more so that temperatures have FINALLY climbed above 50F.

Today the BH got a thorough rinse and wash to get months of salt and grime off of it. Some waxing action will occur when temperatures get juuust a bit warmer.

The other day I restored my scratched up, yellowed headlights and stripped the peeling chrome off of my grille. Finished it off with a few good coats of plastidip.

Ohhhhh y'know, bought another one. I basically bought it for the original gold RS 5 spokes and parting the rest... well it had a lot more goodies that the previous owner didn't know about. JDM headlights, MSD coil, Perrin lightweight crank pulley, strut tower bars, newer struts, GT front brakes, aftermarket intake pipe, some Kartboy bits... good stuff. If I'd quit pulling parts off it and putting them on my car, I could probably make some decent money off it :smt110

Lowered the rear yesterday, drove it around today and I was rubbing a bit on the rear right.

So today I took a rubber mallet to the "roll" the rear quarter panels. I only rolled them about half way but that cleared enough space. Can't go any lower without running into Outback spacer related height issues.

Looks lower in person, the black edge trim doesn't really show up in the pictures so it looks like wheel gap...

Customer gave me his old lights after I built him some fancy custom bix retrofitted ones. One had a 2x3" hole in the side where the inner tab was supposed to be, plastic welded that back in. I couldn't just leave them alone since I split them to plastic weld the interior side, so I started on a quad MH1 build for funsies. I'm going to ditch the gatling shrouds and vacuum form something similar to the stock one's shape, integrate it into the bezel. They are indeed 5x100. I think in 2015, only the Forester and Impreza (not WRX) are still 5x100. Not many 2nd gens around anymore, a lot were lost to the battle against road salt - I did see a perfectly rust free red 98 or 99 Outback today though. That was a sight.

Thanks!

I ordered LED bulbs for the Impreza & Tribeca. Also ordered the cargo mat for the Impreza - tired of worrying about dirtying the rear cargo area.

If I could afford a '16 outback 3.6R-I'd sell my rust free '99 leggy in a heartbeat!

I have everything for the Outback 3.0Rs oil change. Replacing the plug with a fumoto quikvalve plug, trying out Pennzoil Ultra Platinum made from natural gas oil, and a FRAM ultra synthetic filter. I wasn't sure what filter to go with this time around but after researching filters, it was highly rated and was ranked better then my old NAPA Gold by Wix. I normally do not go with FRAM.

Wiscon_Mark
05-28-2015, 09:22 PM
Bobistheoilguy forum members seem to like the FRAM Ultra. They tend to not recommend anything else Fram makes, though. Otherwise I usually go Wix/Napa Gold (Napa runs some pretty awesome sales on them) or Purolator PureOnes. I can't wait to change the easy change filter my FB20 has :D

I changed the air filter and cabin filter on the Impreza. I figured the dealership would have done those things, but nope - the nasty smell that I had on hot days after work is mostly gone with the new filter, so I likely just need to run a vent cleaner system through the vents to eliminate it.

Heh, yeah, I would definitely be into a Legacy 3.6R (wagon, if only). The Tribeca does a great job though, even if it isn't as fast. It's still surprisingly spry for its weight.

I am debating on starting a thread in the members rides. The car will never be as clean as most of the cars on here but I will be doing a lot and have a lot of updates.

I am hoping to get the rear sub frame dropped this weekend. And start taking measurements for the solid bushings.

Wiscon_Mark

I don't even know if that would be compatible with a new-gen Impreza. I looked into it with my Forester and despite the larger diameter, the wisdom was that the effective bar strength difference was minimal and it wasn't worth doing. Not sure how true that holds up for the Impreza, but I did see several people saying the STi bar was the same in the front, so I'm guessing that's not an upgrade either.

I may do endlinks on the front eventually, though.

I removed the stupid factory accessory front bumper guards. Not sure what the point of them was - they don't stick out as far and fenders or the underspoiler, so they don't really protect anything.

Got all the adhesive off one side using a combo of goo gone, heat, clay bar, and M105 buffing compound on an orange pad. Also lost some skin off my thumb trying to rub the adhesive off. The other side's adhesive came off easier because it was drying out, which meant it trapped dirt & damaged the clear coat :smt013

Also, bought some Moog endlinks for the front & back with a rockauto coupon. Can't wait to get my STi rear swaybar and then I can install those (will do comparison photos between Moog & OEM).

Well yesterday after work... Not today as it was: Started Looking for the short in my wiring that killed the power to the ECM. After learning Yoga with a flashlight in my mouth so I could get the main relay out of the car, I started doing some testing with the DVOM. From what I can tell, my short is somewhere between the main relay plug and the 30 amp #2 fuse in under the hood in the yellow/red harness. I was able to do some jumper wiring to the unaffected systems and get her to run again while setting codes instantly for O2 Sensor heaters and AIC. (not powered)

I will be picking up the parts to ditch the factory main relay and replace it with 2 Bosch auto relays for easy diagnosis and replacement. I will be disconnecting the O2 sensors and unplugging the IAC motor and retest for the short to ground to hopefully find out it is a bad O2 sensor with an internal short, but I know I am not that lucky. I was not able to find a good enough complete wire diagram to go over, as my digital FSM has a corrupted frigging wiring diagram, so I looked over everything that had the main relay wiring in the troubleshooting section to find out what all is run off that stupid thing because it ONLY shorts when the relay is activated. Wiring will be a bit of a hodge podge until I get my Doner shell stripped down and ready to transfer the drivetrain.

I have quite a bit of work to **redo** in the comming months. Not happy about having to basically redo my entire build, but it will give me the chance to take care of a few other things that I want to do. It was awesome having a perfectly straight body for a whole 500 miles.

Need to order up some suspesnion and steering bits so I can get rid of all the old/worn parts when I put her back together so I do not need to do this again with any luck unless I want to make a big change! My game plan is to get her reliably running tomorrow night so I can recharge my AC on Saturday and start putting the miles on her to get the emissions test done!

Michelin Premier A/S and the Continental Pure Contacts are both well rated (overall & in snow). The Michelin's more expensive, but you likely get better wear characteristics (Continentals tend to get noisy as they wear). The Michelins are also fantastic in the wet.

Someone in WRX took a pic of my Lic. plate yesterday while I left the school parking lot going for my coffee-I need to get her washed and add more stickers!

Not my car, but I did rotors & pads on all 4 corners of my mother's BM Legacy. Only ran into one issue when the parking brake decided to latch itself to the inside of the rear rotor. Watched a youtube video on how to get it unstuck - thankfully it worked and nothing was broken in the drum assembly. Thomistopheles knows how much I hate parking brakes.
