Attempted to install my $10 Ebay Strut Tower Bar, but alas... it was $10 for a reason.

Seems that the bar itself sits too high and contacts the hood when closed. I can probably swivel the bar toward the back of the engine bay and get it to work, but I ran out of time before work =\.

Just finished installing ground wire kit., have 1 extra wire cuz i didnt trust placing it from battery to valve cover like the instructions said. heh. but for the moment i have battery to driver side chassis, battery to transmission, battery to intake manifold, and intake manifold to passenger side chassis. might put that last wire from transmission to firewall, unsure still.

as for improvements, couldnt tell since i tested the car cold, but the lights did seem slightly brighter than usual. more testing in the morning on my way to work (highway speeds ^_^)

cleaned out the mud that was caked on the inside of the wheels so it would stop going crazy over 55. Also, ripped out my stereo again to try and fix my radio, I get one station clear and the power antenna is still not going up. Fixed my 12v charger thing whatever it's called, wouldn't charge anything before now it charges my phone but iPod one won't work... maybe the charger itself is broke.

Also wrote down a list of everything I want to do to my car that is inexpensive and mainly just fixer ups with rust and painting different things

Back to the steering wheel thing, my V3Sti Nardi made a HUGE difference in the feel of the car. its much easier to control the car under hard driving (backroad/autox fun)
I did notice that the wheel does vibrate just Slightly more than it did before (from a slightly Out of balance tire)

did you put a resistor in line so the airbag light works correctly? best $0.25 mod after you do it. I also put my cruise in teh colum, which I actually like a lot better than on the wheel.

I don't understand why you guys would swap to a Nardi wheel when it's the same diameter as your stock wheel? If you're losing the SRS you should just switch to a smalled (320mm dia) wheel for quicker turn-in. I had an Autotechnica wheel on my Impreza L, best mod I did besides my springs and rsb.

Subaru branded Nardi wheels look stock. And stock doesn't get stolen! The wheel is lighter then the stock SRS unit and there dirt cheap when the deal is up for grabs. Personal preference anyways.

giving a little love.. I had to stop for the night since it got cold and I can't get the crank off because the car would roll backwards with the ebrake up and in 5th gear..

also it seems my timing belt skipped a few teeth after my missed shift on the highway.. I went from 5th to 3rd and hit 6500 before I fully saw what happened. gotta get the old radiator out in the morning.

and if I have enough time I can do the rear diff fluid and give the car a bath, birds like to crap all over this color.. this is worst then that seamist green impreza I had.

you'll never get the belt marks to line up to the static timing marks on the gears. line up the cam with the factory timing marks. and if you dont want the center timing cover to come off there should be a mark on the crank pully that should sit in the 10-15 range on the cover(as long as the pulley hasnt spun on the rubber balancer). but pulling the cover off to see the crank mark would be the best

I know. It's a great little mod for blacking out chrome trim like grilles, window moulding, etc. Takes some paitence, a sharp razor blade, and a steady hand. Looks no worse than the tape car makers use for pillar black out tape. Mazda in particular uses crap that has bad cut lines and obvious overlap. This is better.

filled the gap between the 2-1 collector on my headers with some therosteel, temp fix til i buy the new exhaust system.

I noticed something strange the last few days but it just hit me that it wasnt my headers like i thought. At roughly 3500-4500 rpms, no matter what gear it is (long as its in drive), I get this metallic rattling sound, as if something is loose, like a bolt or similiar. I checked all my fittings and secured all lines, but the rattle is still there, posting a deicussion topic if anyone has any ideas as to what it may be. here is the link....

Wrenched on and DROVE on my newly acquired 1995 Legacy L Wagon!! AWD and 5-speed of course.

Car overheated as soon as I got on the highway when I bought it Wednesday, so I hobbled it over to Ron's shop and left it there until I could deal with it today.

Drained the radiator - there wasn't much coolant in there :( Replaced the thermostat - at 183k miles the engine is a little tired and you can see at least the valve cover gaskets are also leaking. Maybe even the head gaskets - there's some coolant sitting among all the oil muck.

Filled up the radiator, burped everything thoroughly, warmed it up and couldn't get it to overheat no matter how hard we tried so I think we're good to go. I got to drive it a LOT today because I had to go back over to Missouri to get a safety inspection and then to the DMV and then back AGAIN to Illinois because the current Arizona title requires the previous owner's signature to by notarized! So I had to go back and meet the previous owner and get that taken care of.

Driving it around was a lot of fun! It was nice to be driving a Legacy again - I didn't realize just how much I miss driving mine until today. Previous owner replaced the head unit with some JVC thing and it sounds a lot better than stock. Plus I'm amused by some of the other minor differences between the 1995 and my old 1998 wagon - the locks on ALL the doors lock/unlock when you lock/unlock one of the front doors or unlock the car with a key. That is even an upgrade from my Cadillac! It also has a 140 mph speedometer - which is a little weird because I find myself going faster than I think I'm going because I'm used to where the needle is pointing when I go a certain speed. I also am used to rev-matching based on the needle positions of the speedometer vs. the tachometer - so there's new stuff to get used to :)

I was really sad when all my errands were finished I had to get back into my rental Jeep Liberty. There were cops all over the interstates in Illinois today - so I'm parking the Legacy until I get it licensed. At least now I have the title notarized...

so I will be without my legacy for 3 days :( I can kinda drive it at night but it's iffy.. cops looking to give out tickets now :-/

Hello, I am back. Been really busy for the past few months. It was time to turn my attention back to my 98 Leggy.

Today..
Removed the metal shields from the top of the exhaust pipes. They had been missing mounting bolts and the vibrations started driving me nuts.

Finally after months of no fog lights, got around to changing the bulbs.
Changed the oil - Royal Purple sale at Napa, put in a KN oil filter while down there.

Replaced funky no name air filter on my eBay-Cosmo Racing SRI witih a univeral KN cone filter. Cheap, yet effective.

Tore out the rest of the underhood sound dampening mat because it was sagging and torn to shreds. Car is louder but I don't care.

Put on new billet oil filler cap from ebay with STI emblem. Came with a radiator cap - not bad for 20 bucks and free shipping.

Stainless steel clutch line finally went in today too, bled the slave cylinder.

Yesterday - (had a few days off with nothing to do) soldered rear O2 sensor wires, the collar clamps kept coming undone and tripping the CEL.

New rebuilt starter with solenoid from NAPA, set personal record for starter install - under 4 minutes.
New positive battery wire, old one corroded from previous owner's neglect.

That's it!

Not today, but yesterday:

Installed my Borla Knock-off Headers and Random Technology High-Flow Cat. It sounds pretty sweet, even with the stock mid-pipe and muffler shop axelback.

Today:

Realized that my second attempt at a replacement engine is knocking, just like it did last time. Luckily I got RisingSunEngines to write labor as well as parts into the warranty this time around, I just have to wait until they actually send it in the mail... It has been four weeks now. I did call them out on it earlier this week, but we'll see what happens. Once I have it in hand, I'll call them out on the knock and on the leaky valve cover gaskets on a supposedly regasketed long block.

The saga continues... :smt030

They tried to tell me that nothing was wrong, even though my mechanic, his gf, my roommate and I all heard a distinct knock from the lower crank case. Shortly thereafter, I held the phone up to the engine as it knocked, and they told me to drive it as little as possible. I was going to drive it the hundred miles to their shop so they could do the work and I wouldn't have to pay labor again, but they wouldn't let me after hearing it.

I had it removed, and gave it back to them, they ran "tests" on it for three weeks and told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I've had it back in for about a month now, and there is a significant oil leak from the valve cover area, as well as the reemergence of the knock. (Although this time it is at idle, whereas before it was noticeable between 1000 and 3500 RPMs)

As soon as I have the warranty in hand, I am going to tell them to take their engine back and give me a full refund, this is getting ridiculous. Once I acquire the cash, I'll have my mechanic rebuild my old long block with nifty new components and bump up the compression a bit, and I'll be better off than any of the previous attempts, lol.

That's such a hassle, have you thought about having it flatbedded to their shop so they can work on it? Though it may be more trouble because if they find a knock, they'll have to fix it and your car will be in their shop for who knows how long...

I would source an ej25 from a local boneyard and just work with that...they can't really be that much more expensive than the JDM engine could it?

My mechanic still has my old long block, if they actually refund me, I'll have him rebuild that into a screamer for the price I paid for the JDM one. I would love to have done some of the work myself, but I currently live in an apartment and have no access to a garage. =\

Did you get the red or the yellow air bag for it? I am extremely pleased with my WRX wheel, but wish I had been able to find a red bag for cheap. Although, yellow does look better than I had expected, and it was a mere $50.

You'll love how it changes the feel of your steering though.

Started the rear wheel bearings. Not a lot of fun, but not as bad as I was expecting either.

Got everything apart today and used my cheap but very effective Princess Auto manual press to get the bearings out. I figure even with buying the press ($125) and parts online, I'm saving over $750 vs letting the local Subie dealer do it. God damn thieves wanted 3 hrs A SIDE to do them at $130 an hour! :smt013

Over the last 3 days..

Took off the wheels, sanded and painted the stock rims to DupliColor metallic gun-metal gray.
Painted the brake calipers red using a DupliColor caliper paint kit.

Removed air scoop plastic outer cowling and painted it gloss black.

Took off the roof rack and left it off.

Took off the three roof protector strips and painted them (repainted them) gloss black.

Took off the grill, used a dremel and removed the inner bits. Bondo'ed the remaining frame, painted it gloss black including the chrome rim. Realized I suck at bondo but the job passes off just fine after a jillion hours of sanding. Just don't stare too closely.
Installed a pair of Pilot Off Road lights where the two outer vertical slats would have been inside the grill.
Ran the switch wire through the firewall through the rubber plug that is located left of the clutch master cylinder. Wires pass through the center tunnel to the switch I mounted directly in front of the gear shifter. (That little space between the shifter and the ash tray - Xacto knife for the win!) The lights are grounded to a bolt hole directly beneath the hood latch mechanism.

The metal plating that fit over the exhaust pipes are gone. I left them outside and somebody took them. Probably to recycle them for cash, I don't know. Somebody thought they where scrap or whatever but I'm not worried.

I will post pictures.. as soon as the damn sun comes out.

Still getting the "new" Legacy cleaned up:

Discovered the copy of the key that Home Depot made me doesn't work - must have copied it wrong.

Put license plates on the white 95 Legacy Wagon, topped off the radiator, and drove it.

Halfway done swapping out the front seats from the red 98 Legacy Wagon, which were originally from a GC8. Vaccuumed the heck out of the interior, and found about 98 cents in change along with broken glass that I'm glad I didn't cut myself on yet.

Filled up the gas tank - discovered that the line that keeps the gas cap attached to the car is broken  Add that to the list of things to take off of the 98 Legacy and transfer over...

Finding stuff is cool.
Searching for my missing lug nut wrench in the left side wagon bin I found a Subaru box stuffed down into the bottom. Extracted the box and discovered it was an OEM accessory box from a dealership somewhere. Inside the box?
The OEM dual 12volt outlet upgrade kit. Comes with wiring harness, solenoid, two 12volt outlets with flip caps, instuctions that are fairly vague and a backing plate.
The kit replaces your ashtray and converts the space formerly occupied by your ashtray wtih two outlets side by side.

Since I did the wiring for my rally lights I already had a wire pass through in my firewall which incidentally was the recommended location to pass the power wire for the new outlet kit.
Removed all the bezels from the center stack to the center glove compartment, pulled out the ashtray, ashtray rail guide (one screw in the back of the console) and the light. Power is split with a snap on connector to the power wire for the main cigarette lighter, it's also boosted by a direct connection to the battery which connects to the solenoid you install inside the driver side dash-knee board. Total time.. about 15 minutes.
Now useless ashtray is a dual 12volt outlet bay, courtesy of Subaru. By the way, the driver kneeboard wiring access gives you access to the dashboard grounding bolt, it's a 10mm bolt in the upper right side of the opening. Pretty nice place to ground your interior new stuff.

I felt compelled to completely search all nooks and crannies of the car to find any more hidden treasures of former owners of the car.

Getting ready to order an Optima red top battery. A friend of mine's wife is the manager of a local Autozone, she can get them at 30 percent off. They want me to measure my current battery and give them the figures so she can find something that would fit in the small space.

After the battery I'm looking at getting my lightweight drive pulley. Cosmo Racing has them for 50 bucks.

^ nice work, there is actually a write up on how to do it here somewhere.

Thanks, I probably could have used the write up because the instructions sort of don't go all too in depth about anything in particular.. like what to do with the fact that the blank spot on the kneeboard which is supposed to be where you install the new solenoid is already occupied in my car by a solenoid. Double sided tape for the win.. just stick it somewhere around there.

Or the instructions assume you have a stock radio and really made no sense in some parts.. like it makes no mention that you have to remove the ashtray guide rail and light.. but you figure that out pretty quick on your own.

I say.. IQ over 50 you'll be ok. Less.. wear a crash helmet before starting work.

Today.. while on break at work.. which yesterday I did the outlet install while on a break.. I removed the entire power antenna motor assembly. I have no antenna. It was sheared off in a car wash. (stupid story.. turned the car off to retract the antenna and not suck up water while the car was idling.. some reason decided to listen to the CD player.. forgot the antenna rises with the CD too, not just the radio.. antenna was amputated at the base.)
Collective DOH! and palm slap..

I have a generic power antenna stalk with the plastic drive tape. I tried feeding it down the tube to get the motor to wind it up but that didn't work.. or I just got frustrated standing out there for so long trying to feed that guide cable thing into the motor with my son turning the battery on and off.

So I just took the whole thing out of the car to see if I have better luck out of my car.

Plan B is to buy a generic power antenna motor and antenna assembly and try that way.
Plan C is to just abandon the power antenna all together and get a short rubber mast.

Oh believe me, I love having my son out there with me. He's out there all the time, under the car with me, handing me tools, handing me band aids..
We turned that battery on and off so many times the battery died, he laughed and we got my wife to bring her truck around and jump the Scoobie.

I thought the antenna motor was choking when I realized the battery was depleting.

I do my best to make a learning experience.. and not learning new bad words. I explain exactly what I'm doing, why and what it goes to. I get him to participate and he actually enjoys and asks when I'm going to do the next thing to my car.
Which is why I need to stop doing little jobs at work on my breaks and save them for my son to do.

1. My Leggy needed new tires badly. Today I put on some Falken Sinceras. I love Falken tires, wasn't looking for racing tires and the Sincera stayed within the budget. What irked me was that the tire installing machine scratched my newly painted rims in a few places around the edge. Good thing I still have some paint left over.. bad news is that it just royally pissed me off.

2. Changed both front blinker lights. One was burned out, decided to do both. Have a problem, I'll post a thread about it or try to search out a resolution first.

3. Soldered front O2 sensor heater wire connections. They keep coming undone in that Bosch "do it yourself" splice kit they give you. This time no prisoners.. battery powered solder gun goes to work.

4. My power antenna after reinstalling it doesn't not work at all. It gets voltage, it's properly grounded, the motor doesn't budge. Even with no antenna in the casing, the motor doesn't turn. Took off the motor, put it back on (had to pop the side cover off) still nothing. Looks like I'm going with an aftermarket alternative.

5. Swapped out my rally light dash switch with a light up version. It sits up higher and a red LED comes on when the switch is on. Now I won't bump it and forget it's on which happened the other day. Had to run a ground wire for it and reused the same existing power and accessory wire. Good thing I discovered the dashboard ground.. Christ.. at least something worked out today.

re cap from the last 2 weeks...

re-painted the interior trim, had a lot of wear and chipped edges on it.

Rolled the front bumber over a high curb which pulled the lip on the driver side down, popping the bolt holding it to the fender out. need to bend the metal on the fender back up to get it to line u correctly and find a way to bend the hard plastic lip back into place

found a leaking vaccum hose (valve cover>intake) so did a quick tape up until i get around to replacing the hose.

Ordered OBX 2.5rs headers for my BD, should come to my house on monday, cant wait to get rid of my broken borlas and oversized plumbing (ex's idea), keep in touch cuz i may sell the cat and muffler (both from magnaflow), only 2 years old used.

found out that my windshield isnt oem and that is why there is a lot of rust forming right above the top molding. since i work at an autoglass warehouse the techs are going to help me out for almost nothing ^_^.

and as for today.....nothing because its raining out :-(. I wanted to get another look at my timing belt which i thought the dealership had replaced when I bought the car, but as of lately there has been some noticeble issues in the timing of well...everything. also wanted to test the battery's voltage because, even though almost everything works, I can tell that there isnt enough power going thru the car to keep it fully operational, for example, the vanity mirrors lighting system slowly fades on but only barely, when that happens the whole car goes limp until i shut the visor.

lets see what else.....OH, making plans to make my first run at NE dragway this year, and then look into autoX some more as well.

Discovered and fixed why I only have one parking light that turns on despite the blinker works. Well.. not so much fixed it but dealt with it so that it works. More on that in the thread I made for that problem.

Took out my front O2 sensor because it's tripping my CEL again. Stupid Bosch universal sensors. I'm good at electronics, I soldered it and the heater wires still broke. The universal splice kit that comes from Bosch hit the shitter a long time ago. Crimps, clamps, tape.. all retarded because the Bosch sensor uses a smaller wire gauge than the Subaru does. Makes life a pain in the ass. Since I had a warranty on it, I took it back to Autozone and paid the difference for an OEM sensor.
Good thing I kept the plug intact when I started all that splice nonsense.

Put my "summer" tires on today, 1/3 worn BFG Traction T/A's I got for free. V rated, stock size. MUCH better than the 80k rated Pirelli sponges that were on the car. They are T-rated and liked to heel over and squeal in just moderate cornering. Yuck. The BFG's (I had a set on my P71) are a TON better. A little louder, but they are much stiffer, and the steering is much more direct. Car takes a set much sooner. Nice free upgrade!

Also cleaner her up, pulled more mud and sticks out from underneath, even found some ABOVE the oil filter. :smt011

It was a little more than the 2 hours job I envisioned. The 98 Legacy with the stock EJ22 NEVER saw 25 mpg unless I was just cruising slow and steady on the Interstate, even back when it only had 60k miles. My 183k mile EJ22 is more efficient, and that's with a dirty yucky air filter and unknown maintenance history? It seems like Subaru stopped one step short of completely ruining the EJ22 between 95 and 98 - what the heck.

Ordered my Topspeed UEL headers last night and as of this morning it was shipped.
My N1 muffler came in this morning but can't do anything with it until I put the headers on.
Can't helicoil the stripped exhaust header stud until the headers get here because supposedly the headers have their own hardware and I want to make for damn sure everything is going to match up right before I commit to the helicoil fit.

I mean theoretically I could just do it but I don't want to take a chance with something weird about the bolts that come with the header. Better to be patient than rush in and start doing stuff.

Thinking of putting a simple 3 gauge display in the cd pocket below my stereo. Not sure if I really want to mess with the A-pillar for a mount. The cops are dicks around here about things obscuring your field of view and they're generally unfriendly towards the "import tuner" crowd.

They're going to love my N1 muffler when it goes on.

Fixed bizarre issue with vanity mirror lights turning on my radiator fans. Found that someone stuck a fuse in the unused fuse slot under the dash, took it out and everything went back to normal.

N1 muffler comes in 2morrow, can't wait to hear what the OBX headers and the N1 mated together sounds like, should be good ^_^. And a bit of a performance improvement for me too since the last set up was intended for a turbo car and not a N/A tuned, i know it wont be much but i know it will be noticeable since the engine will breath better now and not suck back in any air like it used to.

Went ahead and had my N1 muffler welded on and the old one hacked off. I was going to wait but since the old one got damaged I was concerned about all the exhaust leaks I had between the damaged muffler and the damaged headers.
Paid a shop in the ghetto 45 bucks to have it done.

Holy crap. First off, I didn't know that these sort of mufflers are essentially old school cherry bomb mufflers. Chalk it up to just not knowing but I was surprised that that you can just see right through it. Straight pipe, 2.5 in, 4 out.
It is louder than shit. I mean absurd loud, so much so I love it.
It actually sounds good. I started worrying that I was going to sound like that typical wound out to hell Honda sound you here all the time.
No. Subaru's definitely sound better. Much lower in tone. Even romping on the gas and hauling booty down the road it sounds nothing like a "fart can" and there is no trace of that crazy crotch rocket sound you would expect with a muffler like that.

Parking lot speeds I can set off the "bump" alarms on cheaper car alarms as I pass by. It is certainly a menacing tone.
Inside car it is a bit loud, a bit of droning. Makes conversation hard with people in the back seat when you have the gas down.
Though the muffler is extended a bit outwards with some extension pipe to make the outlet tip even with the bumper cover flair, at least there is no horrible resonance. Just all around rumbling loudly.

Called Speedyracer which if you can't find the number to them look them up as E-Motors USA Manufacturers (same company)
My UEL headers come in tomorrow. Three days to ship them exactly as they said it would. Got the tracking number and found out myself. Morning delivery by Fed-Ex Ground / Freight.

Yesterday I ordered an Unorthodox Racing lightweight power steering pulley. Next week I'll order the Cosmo Racing lightweight drive pulley.

I'm going to start calling junkyards to find a Dodge Neon ignition coil pack and wire so I can do the retrofit on my car.

By the way, with just the exhaust I did notice the car feeling a bit peppier. A lit bit more eager climbing the gears.
Not an incredible amount but just leaving the shop felt different than getting there.

My headers came in today from Speedyracer / E-Motors. Very nice.
The welds look good. Comes with bolts and gaskets including the Cat-Ring gasket and bolts.
The gaskets appear to be good quality or at least look identical in construction and feel of the stock gaskets.
I'm very impressed. Price was good, shipping price was good, only took 3 days to come in and it looks great.

Too bad I have to work the next two days I really want to get these headers installed.

Anyway, the point is that the headers are clean, undamaged, no questionable looking welds, everything is aligned properly and appears fine.
Don't know if fitment is exact because I met the Fed-Ex guy on my way out the door to go to work. Since these are "Version 3" (from information I gathered from NASOIC part reviews) these should fit fine without having to bend them.

I will test fit them before I go to work on the helicoil repair job I already have to do. Saturday afternoon if I have problems with the fit I will post what I discovered.

Either way Saturday night I'll post my results.

I remember when I installed mine a few years ago, (not sure what "version" that was) the headers didn't line up 100% to the heads but once I got one flange into the studs it didn't take too much effort to get the other flange into the studs, just a little more pulling.

Okay, laugh. I broke a bolt. PUTTING IT BACK IN. One of the bolts on the right rail came out hard, and I went too fast going back in and it snapped off the nut that's under the car somewhere in the driveshaft tunnel. GREAT. :smt009

My UEL headers are on. The bolts they sent with the headers are bigger than the header studs. Had to reuse the original head studs.

They UEL's lined up perfectly and took less than 10 minutes to install and tighten up.
Nevermind the hour I spent of cutting and grinding to free up a seized nut on the cat-donut despite soaking in liquid wrench for 16 hours.

Anyway.. the headers are a perfect match for the muffler. The car as a whole sounds much more ominous than before.
With UEL's I know I'm not going to see much of a performance increase but with the muffler I have noticed the car is a little more spirited on the road.

Putting the N1 muffler to the UEL sort of changes the tone of the muffler or better yet pronounces the note more.

Waiting on my pulleys now.

EDIT:
Oil changes will be much more a pain now because of the headers.

DROVE the wagon today. Bucks like hell until 1500-2000 RPM then it goes along nicely. Shifts good. Stops good. ABS works.

Pulled it in the shop and put it on the lift. No rust, suspension tight, brakes are new. Found some road flares in it, a plastic knife, and some pretzel sticks. And a Chrysler lap seatbelt bolted to the stock locations in the the back. Odd, because it has the Subaru center lap belt as well.

Anyways, pulled the right side interior trim that has the BIG rust spot, and it LOOKS like very minimal rust on the indside of the panel, so it should be an easy-ish fix. I do see two very very small bubbles under the paint on the left side, so that should be even easier to fix.

I might just swap my 2.5 and MT into this thing...... :smt007

Replaced the driver's door sensor with one from a junkyard today. The interior light wasn't coming on when I opened the door and it was annoying at night. Also took touchup paint to the door dings from the previous owner.

re-installed the 4" tach, still need to make a face for it thats easier to see thru during the day (its a tinted 7-color from glowshift.com) and also finally installed a DIN pocket to hide the wires and get some extra holding space.

Next on the list for changes is NGK plugs and wires followed by rust treatment of the evil rust devils on my hood and quarter panels, dont really want to mis match the color (midnight black to flat black) but it seems like i dont have a choice. oh well, painting her WR blue in the near future. That reminds me, anyone know what the paint code is or where i can pick up that color? i can't seem to find it in local auto shops or online either, must not be looking well enough.

You can actually use any door sensor from any door for this. When I couldn't get one quickly, I just used the least used door as a temp replacement.

I had one that was disconnected (but still worked) and one that had corrosion and wouldn't make a good ground when I bought my sedan. Work fine now.

Bought some paint for the "Ruby Mica" wagon. Of course no one HAS Ruby Mica in a spray can, and I'm cheap, so I got the next closest thing.... Ford Electric Currant (sic) Red. Took my gas door off and matched it up. Bueno!

what did you use make that adjustable lower link? I've been toying with the idea using stuff from the mcmasters catalog...

The multi-link rear does have some camber adjustment, but it changes toe as well so it's not very accurate.

Big day today. Washed the sedan of all the mud from last night's..... adventure.

Oh, and, started pulling the drivetrain from the wagon. :smt007
I didn't have a wrench or a ratchet that would fit in the hole to remove the torque converter bolts correctly, so I had to pull the intake off. Took a hour or so, which I consider as extra crap I shouldn't have needed to do... but all in all I started at 5, finished at 8:30. Got the exhaust, driveshaft, intake, starter, lower balljoints, sway bar, axles, all out or out of the way.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/05/0508091952-1.jpg

So much easier with the intake gone

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/05/0508091952a-1.jpg

And all but the crossmember, two lower trans bolts, and the motor mounts to undo and the trans and engine will be out. Should have them out tomorrow. Should go much faster now that I got them dang converter bolts out. Arrrh!
So then all is left is the pedal and shifter, and pre-wiring for the MT to go in.
Then some day in the future I can pull the drivetrain from the BD and stick it in the BK.
THAT shouldn't take as long since I've had the MT trans out before, and there's no torque converter to get me stuck.

Why I <3 wagons:

Replaced my front left axle. Boots are all torn on both front axles, so I picked up a couple axles this morning and went at the left side first since that was the side that was clicking badly.

Had all sorts of trouble getting the control arm off the ball joint. I was jumping on a 4 foot breaker bar and managed to bend it. Finally I figured out I could also just disconnect the ball joint from the hub. Much easier, should have done that and saved myself having to destroy the cotter pin. Owell.

Other trouble I had was I managed to destroy the DOJ side of the axle while installing it. Good thing I had two axles to swap in, just grab axle #2. Also good thing it's only $44. But it does delay swapping the other side until after this weekend.

Other side should go a lot more smoothly I think...

But not before a piece of bad news - coolant is dripping from the block around where the thermostat housing is (but not coming from the thermostat housing, more like the point between the oil pan and block). Is my water pump going out???

GRRR! When I did the rear baffle/clutch in my 2.5GT the trans literally FELL off the motor. This thing was stuck and wouldn't come apart. And hour trying to wrestle the trans out first, finally decided to pull the motor first instead. Took an air hammer and a chisel to separate the two. Thankfully there's no real damage, and everything else went perfect.

been having some engine issues lately that are starting to really get me concerned and thinking about doing an engine swap, although family and friends here believe I should sell the car, they don't realize that I really dont have the money for a new vehicle right now, lol.

anyways, started to give the engine a tune up to see if it would fix any of the issues that the engine is having, finished the oil change yesterday but i have to wait until sometime this week for the plugs, wires, and filters to come in the mail to finish the minor stuff. Hoping this weekend I will have time to finally do my timing belt, although I'm nervous about doing it since it will be my first time doing something that major to the engine and I dont want to screw up lol.

Also got the broken windshield replaced, and the tech at my work also grinded down and treated the rust that was forming on my roof behind the windshield, now all thats left is the top side ride to deal with, which isnt a big deal ^_^. Still debating on painting her Candy Black or World Rally Blue, I'll set up a poll on my ride page and see what ppl think.

If anyone knows of a detailed DIY topic for the timing belt on the forums plz send it my way, heh! TY

Try running a thin rod or something though the hole to make sure everything is lined up. The punch I used to remove mine fits perfectly in the hole so I know I got em lined up perfectly before I start hammering the pin in.

You know what you are 100% right I just didn't understand what you said the first time. Take the axle completely out of the transmission stub, turn it 180 degrees around! I thought you meant just rotate the axle around and hammer in the pin from the other side.

Owell, the guys at Raw Performance set me straight on that one. In addition to getting the turbo motor in the car. They also discovered my uppipe has a crack in it so time to shop for a new uppipe with a flex joint. Open to suggestions - running a TD04 turbo and stock WRX headers.
