Oh, I did help Brad (Red85celica) install his Tomy Kira wing on his BK... Looks cool!

Also doing a timing belt on my 2000 Ford Focus I picked up from a customer that didnt wanna fix it. I know, it's a Ford, but hey its not a bad little car and the price was right! Already sold it... haha

Also getting the wagon ready for sale... If anyone is interested in my BH GT let me know... Moving on to the next project...

fwa2500, I am in love with these GT-B (stock JDM) wheels!! I've been looking for a really nice set for a month, can you reveal your source? I saw a set on ebay last month, but the cost/condition ratio was not very good IMO.

i got them from reason on here back around new year and picked up the tyres from someone local yesterday :) both instances were pure luck on the timing and financial sides

Back on topic, I swapped my summer wheels back on today. Weather forecast for the next 2 weeks is 50F plus, my summers will work better than my winters at anything over 40F.

Me too. It's almost 80* here, so I decided not to completely obliterate the tread on my winter tires.

Tell me about it. The center piece alone cost that much shipped on ebay. I also grabbed a jdm power folding mirrors for my bd for 80

Only problem is this guy is careless, he just dump shit all over the place. I saw one of his shipment and it had 3 jdm front end (integra and 2 legacy) and they put a pallet on top of it with other front end. I can see the bumper about to snap from the weight of the pallet.

I can tell you I am heartily looking for these JDM GT-B items for my wagon:

GT-B Limited Front Bumper with beam and Dual Fogs
JDM GT-B Twin Turbo Single-Slat Red Badge "L7" Grille
JDM Power Folding, Heated Mirrors (in black) with Switch
GT-B 17" 5-spoke Wheels (as mentioned above)
GT-B Rear Bumper (or just a JDM rear lip to give the USDM rear GT bumper this look)
Shipping to 98661 (or freight for pick-up in Portland)

I've already got JDM projectors, spats/aero guards, and JDM tails (with a center garnish on the way).

Thanks, I've asked about Frogg's rear bumper for sale over at Legacygt.com as well. Looks like it may need a bit of TLC to get it ready for paint. I might be better off just finding a lower lip, but I've not seen any for sale yet. There is dispute whether a lower lip (only) is separately available because the GT-B bumper is one-piece bumper and lip. Frogg said no, Dead91Silvia says yes lol.

Didn't quite turn out as Id hoped. Looks like some particles of dust/dirt wound up in the clear coat. There is also a good bit of orange peel. I will hit it with rubbing compound in a couple days to see if it helps. It doesn't need to be perfect since the rest of my car is far from it.

[quote="r3v_v3ng3":3dpnmjqa]contrary to what people are saying about a 2.5 piping, it actually has a nice deep rumble. He loves it!

I don't think I've ever had anyone say the bigger piping has bad sound, it's more about having too wide of piping that creates backpressure and hurts exhaust flow on a low power N/A engine.

That being said, it's nice to have good rumble :)

What are the pros/cons to having an exhaust that is wide open after passing through the cat? What does backpressure do to a 2.2L NA?[/quote:3dpnmjqa]

An EJ22 won't benefit with pipe larger than 2.25.
It gets too open and you need the backpressure (which in my experience you get from the cats) and the scavenging (which I think you get from the "Y" pipe) for this NA motor. I've read A LOT on the ins and outs of intake and exhaust mods on NA 2.2s (mostly at NASIOC, and the info there was the most detailed and thorough). Turns out the factory intake plumbing is damned good. After 6.5 years of a snorkus delete and K&N, I put the snorkus back in and went paper until I buy an AMSOIL or other NON-oil air filter. If you NEED (to itch your mod bug) to do intake stuff, clean up the plumbing between the MAF and the throttle body. If you NEED to do exhaust stuff, i recommend a cat-back through 2.25"
I put a cherry bomb in line as a resonator and put it through a magnaflow. Without the cats it was CRAAAAZY loud (nascar style). with the cats it mellowed out, and through the cherry bomb and magnaflow its nice and deep but mellow. Some may like it louder (pull the cherry bomb), but I'm satisfied. i think this (or another vid on my channel) should give you a good idea.

Well written, superu. I, personally, have gone catless (Non-N/A) but when I was N/A it sounded MUCH better with a high-flow cat. Not to mention the 2" exhaust to a 2.25" cat-back. Honestly, a bigger exhaust will make things louder, but it doesn't benefit anyone in any way on an (lower power) N/A vehicle.

Wiscon_Mark
03-18-2012, 09:46 AM
I will say, having 2.25" exhuast from the headers back - when I put on the Borla knockoff headers, it made a big difference in high end power & the car got a lot smoother. Really loving 2.25" all the way back.

So a non-oil air filter would be better than my K&N? Im running the stock intake+snorkus on a 2.2l.

Yes. Here's my take. . . .
The K&N soiled my MAF and threw a code. The SLC dealer told me like $300 (give or take) on a new MAF. I went junkyarding and bought 5 MAFs from first gen legacies and imprezas with early EJ22s for like $15. :smt023 (damn the man, save the empire ;)
THEN I found the MAF cleaner spray. but still.

Later I (and by I, I mean my mechanic ;) pulled off my intake plumbing at the throttle body and the right angle elbow right at the throttle body was caked with grimey gunk!! Maybe I'll take a pic of it sometime, but I think I cleaned that crud out when I discovered it a couple of years ago. anyway, the dirt collection point where the K&N oil deposited on that 90 deg bend... Turns out they (K&N filters)actually let in a lot of dirt. My mechanic is meticulous with his cummins (http://www.mark74.com/MyRam.htm) and he's always checking the silicate deposits (if I remember his terminology correctly) in his truck and it was waaaay off the chart high when he ran a K&N. He went for amsoil ( http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eaa.aspx or this in place of a K&N intake filter http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eaau.aspx ) and it's been pretty much a non issue since ditching the K&N. Silicates (if I get this right and remember geology) indicate sand/dirt, thus baaad stuff for an engine.

K&N is really good at marketing!!
They do breath better than others when really dirty, BUT you have to be exceedingly sparing with the oil application after you wash them and prep them for reinstall.

That's just my experience, and I've gone back to a paper filter and added the snorkus after running a K&N and no snorkus for like 6 years. Still shopping for an amsoil air filter... I just haven't created a profile on their site to complete my order b/c I'm lame! :smt020

Me ether... yet... haha... Been using K&N's for about the same amount of time...

Been playing around with GIMP the past day or so working on paint ideas and came up with a few concepts. The original photo isn't mine, but it's the suspension and all I want.

#1: Rustoleum Smoke Gray, Carbon Wrapped hood and Trunk, Gold Wheels
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/03/Concept1-1.jpg

#2: Rustoleum Army Green, Gold Wheels
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/03/Concept2-1.jpg

#3: Rustoleum Army Green, Carbon wrapped hood and trunk, Gunmetal Wheels
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/03/Concept3-1.jpg

#4: Rustoleum Charcoal Gray (not very dark...dunno why it's called charcoal), Carbon wrapped hood and trunk, Green Wheels
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/03/ConceptFinal-1.jpg

I'm not gonna lie...I like 4 the most. And don't mind my crappy photo editing skills. I am going to go get my motor as soon as the insurance company reimburses me for my tow bills (Truck broke down too, but it was an easy fix), and then with a little overtime, I'll have a new exedy clutch and I'm picking up a used transmission. I'm pretty dead set on pulling my front axles and welding my center diff to go RWD. Should be fun.

Pretty Productive day actually
Installed projector headlights. I was lucky enough to receive the stock connectors with the lights so i was able to solder those in place of the stock. Going to order an HID kit this weekend.
Transmission power mode ground. Did not bother with a switch because I figured i would like enough not to have a button....well i was right its awesome
Independent fogs. Really happy about doing this cant believe it was so easy. Next step is to make hi/low beam independent
Pulled apart HVAC controls and cleaned buttons. Air circulation button has been sticking since i got the car.
Started on DIY jdm grille looking pretty good so far but still has a long way to go...

Today she didn't want to start. I let her sit a bit, she make a single click. I checked the battery terminals, everything in line. Tried again, Scooby started up and I was off to work! I noticed when I was under the hood that I have a broken wire (ground?) as well as had a hose unhooked somewhere. After work I got new wiper blades and just before putting them on I took another look at the tube and found the missing hose and plugged her back in. I'm guessing the hose lose made it harder to start? Maybe the terminal was not on tight enough? Hmm... oh well, at least she's running again. :)

Got my battery killing problem solved today hopefully. Car would be fine if it sat, but on days I drove it, it would drain the battery overnite! Alternator passed both volt and load test...but I was able to narrow it down to a bad bridge rectifier (in the alternator) that would allow current to flow "backwards" and the charging circuit would remain active when the car was off. No idea why it only happened days I drove the car...

Anyways $90 later and an oem remanufactured alternator and I'm back in business. Hopefully. :) Surprised me that it was $90 because all the places I called wanted right around $130 for a reman. (both prices including core exchange).

I have 3 sets of Fusions in the family. My snowflakes I'm keeping for my BD have them, the Toyota Work truck has them, and moms little Civic has a set. The price was great, the performance was great, and the all weather aspect was awesome! The little Toyota 2WD does great in the snow to even my amazement! I got new wheels and tires for the wagon and keeping the Fusions as an extra set for the BD since I found out they are fazing them out.

I think I'm going to hit up some tire shop and see if they can get some for me. I had HRI 17's on my Silvia and they were great for the money!

Yes, in the 2.2L I definitely notice a little lurch when I activate the a/c...but I usually do 260 air until it gets hot enough that the a/c is the only thing that still cools me down... in the rain is also a good time for it :-p

good god wtf did I start o.O? xD as for the No AC, the low pressure line to the firewall cracked while I was taking the motor apart when I first got the car from Reason. Decided to not replace it, ya it gets hot as fuck up here in MA during the summer but just roll down the windows and drink plenty of water, thats all there is to that.....................oh and the 5 extra HP is nice XD XD XD

I've actually heard it can be as much as 10-15 HP when the compressor is cycling. That's a big deal on a car with only 135HP at its peak.

When the AC is on, it's more then that, but if your running your AC, you shouldn't be trying to haul ass... LOL... Play with it, turn it on and off when flooring it. It's kinda like boost kicks in! haha...

Perhaps they're referring to what happens when you put it in your oil - it can really clean stuff out of the engine and cause a lot of gunk to come out of the oil when you do your next change. So it's really the anti-sludge...

02_Legacy

I have heard both people who swear by seafoam and people who think if you use it it will grenade your engine. I for one think that it does what it is supposed to just fine. If used properly you shouldn't have a problem.

Installed AC belt tension pulley thing that I found on eBay. Now that it's hotter than hell here, it was time to get my AC working.
Did the Honda rear windshield wiper swap. 2007 Pilot. Found the arm for 20 bucks on eBay but it came without the blade. Discovered you have to get the blade from a Honda place but with tax was 9 dollars and some change.

Regardless of what they tell you at WalMart or Autozone as I discovered, a 14 inch "OEM replacement rear wiper" does not fit the Honda stalk.
Short story:
The book at Walmart showed that the Anco 3114 was the correct blade. Brought it home, the hook isn't even close. None of the adapters match. Returned it. Took it to Autozone. They brought out some Duralast something-model.. same thing. Took the arm with me to a Honda dealership. They laughed and gave me the right blade.

Tomorrow, I'll put in my neutral safety switch that needs replacing.

Got the car inspected today...Passed with no issues (exhaust and tires are questionable)

An hour later, I hear a funny little ticking noise. Its my alternator AGAIN (second one in less then a year). Take belt off to see if the shitty bearings again (first ones issue) and the pulley was loose. I have no way of fixing it and its under warranty so I put the belt back on. Proceed to drive to the auto part store and it stops with the noise mid way there. Get there and take off the belt again...Its no longer loose...THE HECK! Never buy a reman alternator again.

Ordered a used trans with 77k on it. :smt022

My original trans (which was original to my BD so its got roughly 210k on it) is finally sounding like its ready to bite the dust. I may rebuild the old one and offer it for sale, but with nothing else to drive in the meantime, it's new/used tranny time!

So lets tally it up:

201k on wagon body
100k-ish on JDM motor (40k on HG's and such)
210k on 5MT (soon to be 77k)
30k on Outback GR-2s
30k on Fozzy steelies (I think only one was ever bolted on a car) and Grabber AT2's
???k on 2.5RS seats

Newest part on my car is the upstream O2 sensor. Went out on me a few months ago.
Not bad, I haven't needed to do anything else to it in 40k+ miles.

Oh, and yes I still post on here from time to time, and yes I still have a crap load of BD parts for sale.

Fired up the Subi waiting to pull her out of the driveway, heating up and cooling down the new header. Getting the wrap and paint baked on! Check fluids, looking for leaks and testing everything twice. Monday is the day she will come out of the garage when the bracket shows up!!!

Washed my car, vacuumed it out, filled the tank, and checked the fluids. sometime this week I want to rip the center console apart and clean it out. I also want to know how to do it because I can. When my Carbon fiber vinyl shows up to cover my scoop (paints all messed up) I may take requests for what to wrap so people can see what it looks like before they do theirs.

Got my 77k mile 5MT trans in out of a '97 Outback from PA.
Looked at it, it's not a '97....... it's set up for a cable clutch. Which is kinda good, I guess. According to the Subaru transmission list, its out of a '95/'96 so it'll have the same 5th gear as mine, just gotta swap the clutch forks now. It does look pretty good otherwise, except for maybe never having the fluid changed, and its rusty shifter linkage from sitting in a boneyard for who knows HOW long.

Benfolio: BUT it might be 3.90 axle ratio :-?

Drove over to the local Subaru dealer to grab a thermostat and gasket. Hands down the most pleasant dealership experience I've ever had. Grabbed a STi keychain for $10 while I was there and it still cost less than ordering the parts from a wholesale dealer and paying shipping.

I liked the guys at Don Miller when I met them.

Benfolio - if it's from a 95, it's likely a 3.9FD, but if it's out of a 96 it may be 4.11 or 3.9 depending on the engine it was mated up to. The 2.2L got the 3.9 in the 96 Outback, IIRC.

I matched the trans code to the list here: http://www.gearhack.com/myink/ViewPage. ... on%20Chart (http://www.gearhack.com/myink/ViewPage.php?file=docs/Subaru%20Transmission%20Chart)

Its a TY752VABCA, but I read there might be a typo on the page, as the closest listed is a TY752VABBA which makes sense, since its a cable clutch trans, and SUPPOSEDLY out of an Outback.

Meguiars M105 + M205. I used Opti-coat 2.0 to seal it, love that stuff.

Here's a thread that shows a couple methods of doing this:

I pulled my battery out because it still wouldn't start. Tomorrow I get to take it to autozone or o'reilly's and see what they tell me about the battery (is it dead or is it DEAD?).

What kind of wiring problems would drain a battery overnight?

No. They don't. But, I would think you would notice them on... Also, if you've messed with your stereo (IE: Non-stock stereo installed) there could be an issue with the stereo or the wiring inside. Might want to check that if nothing else.

Went scrapping today. Scored an outback grill that I'm going to mod and put on the L and also replaced my broken master window switch. With a bonus of free tweeters and an armrest for my boy.

For the icky plastic battery tray, or the nasty looking battery terminals. Also, why is that battery so old?

For me, I got to spend a lovely hour at the Subaru dealership getting my master cylinder replaced for the recall, and NOT getting my seatbelt replaced because "They only warranty them for mechanical defects". Hmm. Must be a new thing.

SO, I take my Subaru to the dealer halfway between home and work, even though I work within a few minutes of one (but they used to be a Dodge dealer, Subaru is new to them, and I haven't had luck there in the past), because they've been Subaru for 20+ years.
I buy ALL my stuff from the far-away dealer, my grandparents bought cars from them and had them serviced there, any time my buddy needs parts he goes there, and when we get a Subaru in the shop I call them for parts.

So I get my car back, and the pedal is soft. Softer than it was BEFORE it was fixed. Thinking it was in my head (I've been driving it as it was since 2009) I went to work. It felt soft the whole way. Tried some half-panic stops. Tooooo soft, this pedal.
So I take a look at it after work tonight.

Master Cylinder: NEW
Brake bleeders: DIRTY and still have the rubber caps on them with no fingerprints.
Other evidence of bleeding: NONE
Fuel lines: Not clipped into strut tower like they should be
Fuel Filter: Gasket torn and hanging, not protecting filter from clamp. Therefore, LOOSE.

Me: Pissed. And going back there first thing in the AM tomorrow.

Not sure why it was from 2011, but it has a 3yr warrenty as of yesterday now. Now to figure out why my tail lights won't turn on (but my brake lights do)....

I am reading through pdfs from chuck, but they are confusing a little (to car noobs anyways lol).

I thought the '97 (USDM) and newer had the 4.44's? Everything I've had that was 5MT has been 4.44's.

In general (and in the legacy/OB world), autos behind 2.5s are 4.44s and 5MT's behind 2.5s are 4.11, things change in IMprezas with RSs (4.11s) vs OBS (3.90), and the 05-06 forester turbo MIGHT be a 4.44 5MT.

95 was technically the 1st year of a legacy OB, but it wasn't lifted (as 96-99) and I'm pretty sure it was an EJ22 with 3.90 in the 5MT, 4.11 in the 4EAT.

Haha, thanks, it's not for my car though. Rockblocker protects my JDM headlights. I just did a job on my mom's Civic's headlights and they look better, but not that good. I'll have to try that spar urethane mixture, looks interesting.

This all looks correct to me. FWIW, the OBS model didn't get a 2.5L engine until 2002, where I'm guessing it got the 4.11 transmission.

I was under the impression that only 90s JDM cars got the 4.44 manual transmission.

Might have to start surveying people :smt006

I did so swap awesomeness, but not the transmissions (yet). Maybe it's due to it being the '99 Limited GT or something? I have no idea.

EDIT: Also, just found this: https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=278 It looks like both my cars are 4.11's. I thought for sure they were higher than that. Damn RPMs rise at staggering rate. :(

Wow... that was a lot of work to get a warranty Subaru gives! The warranty is for "normal wear", not just the retracting bit. Thats good you got it covered. The dealer I had mine done at will not get my car ever again since they didnt TQ my buckle and left out clips I had to replace, but I did get the belts. The dealer I get my shop parts at I know will do a good job, even more so if they know its me!
