Well due to the forecast showing cold temps and a chance of snow today, yesterday i rotated tires and cut the heat shields off exhaust manifolds, yay no more rattling! Also noticed my engine still leaks oil but its just a little bit from the rear somewhere...and the valvecovers a tiny bit. But the main oil pump leak is no more!
And looked at buying a 96 Impreza Outback today haha
Yay for new wipers and being able to see in the rain!
THIS!! That is precisely what I did today. Well, today as in within the last 24 hours.

Patched the holes I made fixing rust in the trunk on the Forester. POR-15'd the areas around to prevent any residual rust from spreading. It was difficult to work with since the panels in the Forester trunk are so close together on the inside.
Also discovered the previous owner had the tires cranked up to 44 PSI!
Lowered it down to 37F - 35R and the ride is much improved.

The car finally gave out today. Pretty sure the original owner didn't replace the water pump when they did the timing belt. Spent an hour and a half limping the car home, a whole 5 miles
No big deal, it's time to get the new engine in anyway.

So... a friend called and told me her brother wanted to sell his Outback... A 2002 or 2003, cant remember the year. Went to look at it today...
Here's the cool part.. It's an LL Bean 3.0! Needs a dash, seats, brakes, and has high miles... For $1500! I'm thinking yes! Gonna see about getting the money together tomorrow and I should be coming home with a LL BEAN 3.0 that runs and drives!

I have a 2001 LL Bean edition 3.0 and it's great! Although, the mileage is also quite high (230K or so). I did have to put quite a bit of money into it. I really like it, though!

Which engine?
I put together another EJ25D with a lower mileage block. New gaskets, timing components, water pump, oil pump, clutch, rebuilt heads. Maybe the old engine knew I was about to swap it out, and wanted to give me one last "F**k you!"
I've put 6k miles on it with blown head gaskets and an overdue t-belt, and who knows how long the original owner beat on it like this. I'm honestly surprised it didn't fail in a more spectacular manner.

Plasti-dipped my hood! Came out pretty decent, but I'm going to redo it with a better gun. I bought a Harbor Freight cheapo just to get a feel for the product.
This is just the beginning. After working with this stuff I am IN LOVE. Despite my terrible gun, the finish still came out smooth. This stuff is incredibly easy to work with and even easier to remove.

I had to buy a new tire today... split one due to bad alignement (worned down to the metal). I'll need a whole new set next summer. Hadn't realised the car was that badly aligned. Man scrapped my 4 Falken 452 in one summer... this is such a piss off :(

This. Less than two months, I've had it, and I do this...
I was coming up a hill that has a fairly sudden 90 deg turn at the top. I've driven this hill many times before, no problem, but it was wet today, and as I came around the turn at the top doing about 25mph, the rear end just slid right the hell out, and I was backwards before I could even start to counter-steer. the rear wheel slammed into a storm drain, and became as you see it above. I'm not sure what is broken, but I fear for my wallet hard.
I also managed to throw the front out of allignment somehow, and have some serious toe issues.

brake bracket(s), control arms, and your suspension would definitely be worth looking at. However, if your entire hub ripped off with the wheel, you'll be looking at repairing that as well.
sqc151
10-08-2012, 04:58 PM
Pulled an engine.
Okay, so, the damage to my rear suspension is pretty big, but it looks like all the affected parts will be able to be replaced in one unit.
-Control arms
-Trailing arm
-Hub
-Knuckle
-Axle
-Shock (maybe)
Haven't found out what's wrong in the front, though.
But this means that my Grace is not dead, and indeed, she will be returned to the running world, soon. I find myself replaying the speed at which the rear of the car overtook the front, and the shock of hitting the curb and can't help but thank whatever 'Powers That May Be,' or fate, or whatever that my car is repairable, didn't flip over (I thought it was going to for a split second,) and that I don't have whiplash or any other injuries. So, learn from my mistake, boys and girls... Don't hold off on new tires to buy that one awesome part, or that new phone, or whatever. You need new tires? Buy them ASAP. it might just cost you more if you don't.

Well, my mother was taking the BH Outback to emissions testing and got hit. I leave work in 30 mins so I will go see how bad it is. The rear has a few more scratches. The bumper cover isn't even dented.
Well, my car's roadworthy again, but it'll never be the same. The carrier for the rear suspension/differential is tweaked slightly, and my left rear wheel is pointed slightly inward. So, I'm wearing out that tire quite rapidly. Fortunately, I can drive it enough to do my deliveries, and save up to buy a new car.

Bolted up one head, rotated the engine to do the other...and staring me in the face are some deep gouges in the block mating surface. They weren't there when I bagged up the engine. I have no ****ing idea how they got there, they look like the impressions you'd get by putting a chisel up to it and hammering the damn thing.

So we gave the lady who our Outback the option of paying us for the damage, which was estimated at $650 for a reconditioned bumper cover and painting it, or us calling her insurance. She said to call the insurance. I get the feeling they will say the only want to repaint the bumper that is on the car. Here is the damage:

I will share in everyone's misery. After a week of fighting with the old insurance company, who dropped us over a month ago without warning or notice, regardless of us having made payments, we finally got new insurance with State Farm. Unfortunately, we are listed as high risk until we can get Westfield to correct the issue (payment means coverage in WV, but they still refuse). Undaunted, we started out at 0700 this morning with aim for Roger's house to pick up my transmission, clutch, fender, spindles, and keyless remotes. We were excited, and even taking the kids to the Cleveland Aquarium afterward. We were finally ahead.
Fast forward to 1010...we are cruising up I77 just north of Cambridge and the car shuts off. We coast to the shoulder and try to restart the car and just get clicking. We call State Farm for roadside assistance and wait over 3 hours with two bored and hungry kids. The driver shows up and we load the Honda up and head for home, as the local garages and dealerships can't get an alternator until at least Monday. $478 later and we are home, jump the car, disconnect the cables, and it dies. Just got back from Autozone, who happened to have an alternator in stock, at $166 plus core. Add $100 for a new battery, and we are no longer ahead. I will never get the Subie on the road...

Just got off the phone with my Mother who is in Knoxville dealing with the dealer who I bought my H6 from. Before I left for Miami, they agreed to inspect it because of its overheating issue and "go from there." According to them (albeit translated by my mother), a previously installed and faulty radiator cap escalated to the headgaskets leaking.
The first thing that came to my mind was, "what the duck! EZ30's don't pop headgaskets!" Regardless, they have agreed to replace the headgaskets, do so free of charge and issue the repair with a warranty. I have instructed the moms to get as much information as possible including the name of the brand of gaskets used. They also made an interesting offer.
They said they would buy the car back for $1,500 less than what I paid for it. As quick and easy as that is, I feel like if the repair is done properly, I can get my money back. And that's if I even want to sell it. Miami blows and is by no means a place to enjoy driving. My 97 is loud, leaky and old, not to mention the 200k + trans has begun to whine when driven too long. I'm keeping it no matter what and have begun looking into residence with driveways/carports/garages to store it which means I might just keep the H6 and daily it like I was initially intending on.
What are your guy's thoughts? Should I keep it? Sell it to one of you *cough*Huffer*cough*? Take a loss and sell it to the dealer? Get addicted to meth and disassemble it in my mother's living room to build a Subaru meth lab?

Keep, it, drive it for a little while, if you still don't like it, sell it private sale.
I wouldn't take a $1500 loss on it because of their screw-up.
And FWIW, anything that overheats can blow gaskets, not just ones that are failure prone.

Good point. It's just that it's so rare to see it happening to a H6. I guess I just wanted to think of the engine being a superhero (other than the well documented idler pulley issue...)
My mom is going to use it as her temporary daily to make sure everything's hunky-dory. When I go back home for Thanksgiving, I'll make my decision.

not for the budget I've got.Plus, I found another car to replace it with... But I lied about it's Subaru nature.
It's the (IMHO) next-best thing... a 1988 Volvo 240 with the (rare as hell) 5 speed manual. Being a RWD car, that's not going to be my daily for too, too long, and I'll be hunting up another 2nd gen Legacy wagon, but at $1500, and in the condition it's in, I can't afford to pass the up on getting the brick.

I haven't done anything yet, but I am brain storming ideas for a light bar for my Hella 500s. I have the light brackets from my roof basket and metal that was cut out to make the basket narrower. Also some other aluminium. I plan to start working on something soon. I kind of want something similar to this:

Holly mother of mary you did it. Where did you even find that? Did you ship it over from Aus?
 Yes, I am awesome!!
Well, at least doggedly and thick-headedly determined and with somewhat exercised and extended patience.
I researched it and had feelers out for 7 years, committed to doing it and REALLY pushed for some overseas assistance for 2-3 years, had a couple fizzled helpers then found a friendly mate who committed to and was willing to pull, drain, store, prep, store and drop it last year.
Yes, imported from Australia... and Yes it was a huge PITA, and yes it IS awesome!!!
This one is a gen 1 forester (I forget if its 98 or 99) with 4.11 axle ratio and 1.44:1 low gear, 4-bolt main.
Turns out Latin America, Japan, Australia, and Europe have dual ranges, just the States didn't maintain the dual range option during the 4x4 - full time AWD transition of the early 90s. There are a variety of options across model year and model lines in the dual range EJ manual transmission world, mostly 3.70 and 3.90 final drive, some with 4.11 but also most have a relatively useless 1.19:1 low. Some have 1.44:1 lo and only some Imprezas had a 1.59:1 low (with 3.90 FD)...

After about a week of very slow progress, I got my PIAA fogs installed. Ion driving in the N/S and ion fog in the O/S. At close to $200 for the lights, I also invested in the optically clear 1/16" self-adhesive protection film as well for another $20. I still have to modify the switch to run fogs on high beam. I have 3500K H3 bulbs in my highs for foul weather, preferring not to run the HIDs in the projectors in that circumstance. If I want long range, I've got my 55w/90w Hella German snow plow lights. I do land surveying part-time, so I occasionally get to enjoy my lightin' Jones!

box size is the same. in fact it looks like my 95 leggo box from the outside while the USDM 99 OB one looks different.. I hear there were some internals changes in 99

Yes, reused drive shaft. I'd swapped the cable clutch bracketry from my stock 95 leg box to the 99 OB box (which was hydro clutch), repositioned the fork pivot ball ('cuz there are two mounting locations for that, conveniently enough ;) and swapped the shift linkage U joint b/c the leg was opposite of the OB and FOR...
THEN I just swapped all that stuff onto the AUDM one just the same....I'd like to run the hydro clutch (and I should have everything to do that swap, just not right now...)
My 95 leg 5MT is a 4-bolt main, the 99 OB is 8-bolt, the gen 1 AUDM forester is also a 4-bolt main. The OB had a different starter mounting scheme (lower hole on trans is pass through and I had to rethread it) whereas 95 leg has a stud on trans and nut application . the AUDM FOR is also stud on trans with nut for mounting. (you can see that in photos below)
here are more 95 LEG 5MT to 99 OB 5MT comparisons...

(my opinion ;)
I think it was market research silliness.
While yes there is a segment of the population that would use it, the majority use theirs as daily drivers with some off pavement maintained roads. Inclimate weather and snow. America is about smooth and fast, bigger better stronger faster!!! (look at our highways compared to other country's highways). Australia (as far as I know) just got the 2.5 liter within the last 5-10 years or so... Most rigs there are a naturally aspirated 2.0 liter with just at or under 100 HP (or EJ22s), while we've had the 168+ HP EJ25 since 1996.
Australia is like 99% desolate outback, and capability is the norm there (that's why THEY have ALL the sweet off road rigs... look at their land cruisers for an example) Trailers, sand, outback, etc.
Some here could/would use a low gear, but an automatic works better for that for our market, sadly...
It was right in that transition from 4x4 to full time AWD that Subaru of America ditched the low gear transmissions. It's silly though, b/c it seema like jus about EVERY OTHER worldwide market still has a dual range! Japan, Australia, Latin America, Middle East, Europe. WTF America :smt022 :smt022 :smt002
But yeah, still your point is taken, WTF Subaru of America, why'd you ditch the low range for North America back in the early 90s???!?!?! :-?

I'm not saying it had to be standard, but when they came out with the Outback & Forester, it should've been a $1000 option or something...
Australia I understand getting it. Europe over us though?! I mean, they use AWD/4WD less than we do. Only the mountainous areas and Scandinavia actually have use for AWD/4WD.

Had the same experience. Only the jdm driver side was good and took it for a spare. Would of bought the passenger one but it would be the same price and it had a crack turn signal lens. It sucked that they charged me for every piece. It was 50 with the connectors ( it was still cheaper than ebay though)

I changed my Power Steering/Alt belt a couple of days ago and today it squealed a bit on startup. Sure enough, the belt is just a little too loose. No big deal, right? Just tighten 'er up.
Well, this is what happened:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/10/MtTF7-1.jpg
Yep, broke the tensioner bolt. I wasn't really cranking that hard, but it was resisting. Turns out the tensioner nut had some leftover threads (I have no idea why) inside of if, causing extra resistance and heat, breaking the bolt, which was obviously flawed. I don't have a dealership close and no parts stores carry these parts, so I ordered new ones and stole parts off the Outback for now

I got my legacy STUCK in the ~7" of snow, all seasons with barely any tread on them are no match for super wet snow with grass underneath.
I just moved and didn't have time to really learn where the gravel ended before sandy decided to spawn a blizzard in WV so the Lego is stuck in my yard behind my new home :/
Sunday, I was delivering for Domino's, and on a run to a home less than a quarter mile away from mine, I had a serious shuddering develop when I hit the brakes just before midnight. I called my boss, and told him that I couldn't do any more deliveries that night, and limped home on the E-brake. I wasn't scheduled for Monday, when Sandy hit, possibly due to the car issue (We get our schedules made the day before they start.... it's completely stupid, but that's a rant for another time and place) and I just hunkered down. this morning, I discover that it was a single bolt that had worked loose from my front caliper... It hadn't even fallen out. a few turns of the wrench, and the car's good as... well... "good" as ever. and just in time to make it in to work on time.

Around here, $250 would get you 3 rashed WRX wheels and one bent wheel...with junk tires. These LL bean wheels are ugly, but they'll be good winter wheels...and $120 is better than paying 300-600 for OEM wheels with usable rubber. Taking a break from working on my car, I moved the TB to before the supercharger and now i can't get it to idle less than 1200 RPM even with the IACV passage blocked off and I can't find any vacuum leaks. I'v been going over everything for the past 2 hours and haven't come up with anything.

Began considering a change in direction today...I am considering doing a heated seat kit in the stock seats or 2.5RS seats and then doing a lift with some Outback struts, GT-Springs, and 3/8" spacers...run some steelies and some 215/65 General Grabber AT2 Tires. I think it would be more functional for my needs right now, as opposed to lowered with racing seats. I could put a hitch on it and tow the teardrop we are planning to build, as well as take my kayak into some rougher places that I couldn't access with anything other than the truck if I lowered the car. A custom lightbar would be cool too. Just pondering.

My friend and I got this 95 legacy wagon parts car. Got it for $850 ($425 each). Runs but he hit a curb and will need driver lower control arm/tie rods/strut and maybe sway bar. Theres so many goodies on this car that we feel like we hit the lottery lol

Well it seemed like the guy just slapped the rear seats on the car. I transferred it to my wagon and here are some problems
On the bracket where the seat spits, it only bolt on the lower one. The wrx bolt holes seems to be farther apart
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/11/IMG_1509-2.jpg
The outback latch seems to be about 2 inch higher than where it would lock on the wrx seats. I did not check to see if chasis have a premade area the latch can be bolted down lower to match the wrx.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2012/11/IMG_1506-2.jpg
The final one would be on where the upper seats is connected to the bracket on the door side (sry no pics but will take more when i really tackle on the rear seats to be installed properly). On the stock legacy wagon seats, they are bolted down with 2 bolts on door side bracket. On the passenger side, you can just slide the bracket out and the wrx seats will just swivel on the hole (it has a long stud on the end). On the driver side, you have to grind the swiveling part of the bracket since its pressed on it.
I'm pretty sure the bracket part is easily remedied by using the wrx wagon brackets. The only problem I can think of would be the latch where it needs to be lowered to match the wrx seats.
Yes it would of been awesome! Whats your plan now for a car since you parted out your wagon

Drove my Legacy in the snow for the first time.... When the solenoid for the rear really hooks up, my lights dim and the blower cuts way down, is that normal? (4EAT) Other than that it was a champ, by the time i got home the snow was higher than the floor! (Snow all fell in less than 4 hours) First AWD car (had full and part time 4wd trucks though).... And first car with ABS haha! Did well, just curious on the power draw?

Success! I replaced the o2 sensor and no more CEL! Engine runs a lot better too. I also replaced the manifold gaskets, and the donut gasket & hardware while I was at it. The old hardware was missing a spring (don't know how that happened) and the bolts were rusted beyond recognition. I coated the new ones entirely with anti-seize after install. Much better.

My jdm projector fogs arrived today from hansvonaxion!
Tomorrow I'm gonna be seeing if a local dealership/oil change place will let me put a deposit on a white BK Brighton wagon. not sure what year it is, but it has less rust than my car, a better interior, and is only $1,000. The guy said it only needs an o2 sensor. Not sure, so if I can take it for a test drive, I'll have my mechanic look it over for me. I'd love to just slap a grand on the table, but I can't really do that. I can put about $250 down, and pray that that's enough to get him to hold onto it for me. If this goes through, my L will stay the delivery car, and the Brighton will become the project car / not-at-work car.

Flew in to Knoxville for Thanksgiving and pick up the H6. The dealership that I bought it from went ahead and did the headgasket repair as well as a bunch of other stuff. Here's the list:
Head Gaskets
Spark Plug Gaskets
Valve Cover Gaskets
Timing Chain
Left and right tensioners
Guids/Rails
Timing Chain Pulley
Recharged A/C
The heads were checked for warpage and in total, there was 14.8 hours of labor applied to the car. My mother told me that the mechanic said "I'm sorry that this happened and I want to make this perfect."
I'm utterly shocked that this dealership (http://www.nationalautowarehouse.com/) did all of this work and stayed with the car this entire time. This may have been a hassle but I'm so thankful that this place actually gave me and really, my mother, the time of day.

SUCCESS!!!! I'm puttin $150 down on it today, and I talked him down to $800. I took it to my mechanic, and he's figuring it'll probably need about two grand worth of work to be in really good condition, but... that's still less than $4k, which was what I had been figuring as the cap to my second car budget.
So... It'll sit for a while, geting work done to it before I register and insure it, but I'll probably hit it with some aftermarket stuff while I fix it up. it needs both o2 sensors, and they appear to be firmly rusted in. I'm thinking to just pick up a set of UEL headers, and replace the sensors then. Buuut, that's all gonna have to wait. I have to pay the rest of the car off with my paycheck on Friday, then pay my mechanic off for work he's done to my L recently. Then I gotta have a little more work done to my L to keep it safe. Then I have to pay my mom off for money she loaned me after my wreck.
So, I figure it'll be a few months before I can really dig into the Brighton.

^^^Congrats man! Brightons are cool: the race-car-ready Subaru trim. Two grand though? What's going to be done? Timing belt and seals I presume. Wheel bearings?
that's including labor, but it's left front axle, brakes all 'round, both o2 sensors, it threw codes for non-communicating knock sensor and misfire on cyl 2 (though we didn't feel any misfires driving it) and it needs ball joints. it's got 261k and it's just overdue for a lot of general repairs.
And, I agree about the Brightons. Except that some fool optioned this one up with a/c, rear wiper, and autotragic transmission... Guess it'll be delete time for some things. Think I'll keep the a/c, though.... that's a lot of windows to catch heat in the summer.

Happened yesterday and the day before but I do what I want.
Drove the freshly repaired H6 from Knoxville back to Miami as the Thanksgiving holiday is over. I have now completed the 900 + mile trip in two Outbacks and here are some thoughts.
Between the two generations, the BG contains a better driving position and surprisingly, more comfortable seats. The BH has more wind noise but less engine noise. Not a fault of the BG, but the BH is much quieter in regards to exhaust as it box-stock. Drivetrain wise, the BG is much more raw and racy when accelerating up to freeway speeds but between the two in regards to actual highway cruising, the H6 stomps the even-modded 2.5. The combination of long gearing, ample torque and responsive 4th-to-3rd gear downshifts makes for one of the best highway vehicles I've ever driven. It just sits tight at 80 and more often than not, I was doing a little more than 90 without knowing.
Now I have two red Outbacks in a city occupied mostly by BMWs, Maserati Gran Turismos and concrete. Ugh.
Got my Brighton today.

Glad they got shined up. Make sure to get some new film for them.
I sold the Outback yesterday. It is no longer mine :-(
Just as well though, it was just sitting there. It went to a good home and I'll see it often.

Well, at least the outback is back on the road doing what it's made to do.
I'll put some Lamin-X or something on these lights soon. I have some other things lined up right now, too :smt023
I posted photos of the process in my "Ask a Detailer" thread viewtopic.php?p=316003#p316003 (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?p=316003#p316003)

I made an adapter plate for my msd coil (sorry guys i cant afford the one made by 4zero1 at the moment). I bought the wire and paddles I need for my big 3 grounding block and ended up screwing my egr tube up so now I may make another one and will add 10 mm to it to make up for the difference the phenolic spacers are to take up.
Got the bill for a few repair sessions that my mechanic's been a little slow in getting to me. total cost for replacing left front axle, ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends, and oil pan, gasket and filter: $1112.50.
That hurts me in the wallet, but thinking about all the work that went into it... that's not terrible, really.

Oil pan gaskets are never any fun, and inner tie rod ends are a pain to get to, so it really isn't terrible. It's still a lot of money all at once like that.

^^ Ouch! That's why I fix my own stuff unless it's too specialized.
Today I replaced the dull green lights that the PO installed in the dome light with 6 L.e.d. whither lights. Its not as bright as I hoped but its FAR more useful than it was.
Also, my car goes to the alignment shop tomorrow and I'm REALLY hoping to get my winter wheels plasti-dipped this weekend as well as fix my fuel leak. I've only driven the car 1-2 times since early November and I miss it!

Had a city light and the side bulb in the jdm fogs go out yesterday. I ended up ordering LEDs to replace both city lights and both side lights on the fogs.

Yeah, I'd agree with that assessment. I had to dig to open my Outback's doors, but after that it was smooth sailing. The only other vehicles on the road down here are Subarus, trucks, and plows.

Wow all that snow looks amazingly fun....I'm from el paso tx where if it snows people panic and wreck there s***. In 2010 here we had a freeze with snow that crippled our city. Well, I went to work in my awd Subaru without issue. I worked at a body shop at that time....so for me it was very exciting. So congratulations to all that get to use theyre Subaru for the purpose it was intended for. So
I started pulling my motor today, almost got it out...I say almost because there is one more motor to tranny nut that I don't have the right wobbly or pivot extension for. It the lower driver side nut between the tranny output shaft and steering rack output so tomorrow I'm going to finish and kalimaaaaa that biatch. It was 530 and I wanted a beer...so........... :smt023

Somehow a bunch of snow got packed in between my heatshields and the driveshaft and is causing a rattling. I cleaned out most of it, but I need to get it on the ramps tomorrow and really get in there and see if something got knocked loose. Hopefully everything is OK. Never had that problem with the Outback, which is weird as it had 3" fewer ground clearance.

Possibly a more likely cause is snow/ice in your rims. I don't see how snow around the driveshaft would cause a vibration. That is what happened to me, yesterday I was doing donuts and my rims became packed with snow and then it froze overnight. I had a really bad vibration until I cleaned out the rims. Just something to check.

I had to chip ice out of my wheel wells the other night, no suspension travel left and it was rubbing at the slightest compression. Nothing like hacking ice out with a camp axe and a large fixed blade knife... in the parking lot where my wife works. A forensic mental health facility.

Nope, I know what wheel packing is like, this was different. No steering wheel vibration, pedal shudder, etc.
I got the car up on ramps, cleared all the ice out, and everything was peachy. It was just the ice bouncing off the driveshaft. No permanent damage other than the heatshield shearing off a couple of bolts. I'm thinking of putting some ducting sheetmetal in there, and shaping it to keep the snow out. I still don't know how that much got in there (could probably fill a 5 gallon bucket with the snow/ice that was in there).

I have a friend on the Fire department who tells a story about being in the military down there. He had a Firebird Formula, and his buddy (also from CT) had a Corvette. It snowed about an inch, inch and a half, and there were big, bad-ass 4x4 trucks in the ditches left and right, and these two were just powersliding through intersections at 25mph, wondering what all the fuss was about.

A couple pages back someone mentioned they got new spark plug gaskets... is that applicable to my wagon? Also, I like those orange wheels you got :)
at about 1 this morning, I took advantage of a light dusting of snow (Maybe 3/4 of an inch,) to go play around in a parking lot. My car really needs an iinfusion of power. Just bringing it back to it's original, in good shape output would be nice. I couldn't get it to spin at all without the E-brake, and that's not easy to do with the automatic.
Still had fun.

Drop the transmission into D3. D4 you're 90% FWD. D3 you lock up at 50/50 ratio. You should easily get the rear end to step out with either power over or scandinavian flick techniques.

I could've sworn you needed to go down to D2 or D1 to lock it 50/50.

Ooo... thanks... that's very nice info.
Today, I discovered that someone at my work decided to continue a little prank war by disconnecting my positive battery terminal. But, he didn't actually take the terminal all the way out of contact, he just set it back on the post. So, I could start my car, but the terminal would jump off with every bump, so I had power surges up and down, and it killed my alternator. So, today, I swapped the alternator from my Brighton in... Oh, well. Looks like the Brighton's gonna have some nice new parts on it by the time it's finally on the road.
