Anyone got any ideas for stains and how to remove them?
Spot Shot rug cleaner works really well for me, but if you over do it you can bleach the area with it, just don't let it sit and wipe it with a damn cloth after cleaning.

I started doing a timing belt job on my sisters Honda, and it was a pain, I wish every car was a Subaru because the engines in subies face the correct way so you don't have to work with 2 inches between the engine and body.

Some people are idiots, they sold the car to some one who lives 2 hours away with no way to get it home, when I came by just 1 hour before with a $200 dollar down payment that they wouldn't take. I might also add that I am local, living only 5 miniuts away from them and he has a few friends that live close by me, and he knows my automotive teacher.
And the worst part about all this is they emailed me back saying I was second in line to get the car yesterday. Well this afternoon they emailed me and told me that the first people didn't show up. I emailed them back within an hour and set up an appoitment to come and see the car, and guess what, I was now 3rd in line after some dude from Iron Mountain because they didn't want to call him and tell him that it was already sold after he was on his way.

I'd be pretty cheezed off if I just blew $300 on a box that doesn't work  But yeah it's hooked up if that's what you mean... as for how the car drives, in the dry it's not so noticeable, only when making tight low speed turns and the thing set to full do you feel some slight binding. When its wet though, I can feel the transmission shifting power around; it takes a little getting used to. Haven't tried it in the snow yet though.

No change on winter wheel usage as the 04 GT still ran with 16x6.5 wheels. The rotor size goes from 10.7" on the 98 to 11.4" on the 04 GT. Basically the front brake becomes the same size as the rear again. The rear brakes are already 11.3" rotors with single piston calipers.

Try getting the axle out of the RH side of a 90's Camry. Been working at it for a couples days, there's a carier bearing that gets seized in the engine mount it passes through. Also swapped to summer wheels/tires. Drives much nicer on pavement this way. Put on all 4 new rotors while it was apart and snugged up the parking brake. Brake pads are nearly new but, the car had a twitch in the steering wheel under hard/fast braking and sometimes the brake pedal would pulsate.

It's all good now.

A 2 day what have done:

Yesterday, I was up before the crack of dawn to drive the wife"s van 80 miles to pick up a set of 96 GT leather seats.

On the way home, stopped at a nice breakfast place, and continued to Sussex NJ to look at a 99 SUS I saw on North Jersey Craigs List. 30th Anniv. edition in cranberry/ wine whatever. The listing said it needed a transmission. Lots of work done on the car. Interior looked great, leather all weather package. Engine rebuilt last couple years. New brakes and front axles. Then the kicker: a new windshield. So I ask myself "Self, why do you think they needed a new windshield?" Upon seeing the car my self responded "Hey it looks like the hood popped at highway speed, it's all creased near the windshield and the fenders are a little busted up top."

Turns out that is exactly what happened. He was ok and was able to control it to a safe stop and then spent money to put the new glass in. But I asked myself, "Self, how good are you at body work?" "Not very" The transmission thing didn't bother me at all, I can fix that, but body work, never really learned. Someone should pick it up, he's looking for $1500 in the ad, and I betting he'd go a lot lower.

Got home, took a nap then disassembled the back seat area. Pulled some trim pieces and the third brakelight to get the rear deck off to upgrade the speakers from Legacy L stock to the "premium" Panasonic speakers from an Outback Limited. Cleaned out the small furry friend home I found under the rear seat, including e-taping up all the wires that had no jackets. Put all back together with the leather bench seats.

Today, I tackled the fronts, of course I managed to break only one of the nuts off the center while trying to pull the drivers seat. So, under the car to get a wrench on it. For future reference, the lower bolt has an 18 mm nut tacked under the center heat shield. I was able to drop the heat shield a little, 2 12mm bolts/nuts and get a wrench on it. Then, since I was alone, I put the heat shield back up to hold the wrench while I used the breaker bar to get the bolt out.

I installed both seats after swapping my seatbelt mounting thingy, the red was faded pretty bad on the leather seats. As I was trying to work the bolt/nut combo to try to clean the threads so I could put it back on, the wife sends the 5 year old girl out to me because she has had enough. Great I think, someone to use the ratchet why I'm under the car holding the wrench. So the little one helped put the seats in.

And that's the rest of the story.

Started cutting my bumper to fit the JDM fogs yesterday. Is it just me, or is there a lot more plastic to trim off then what the write up shows.

I mean, it is great for a starting point... but I have ended up having to cut closer to the front edge of the bumper than what was illustrated just to get the corner of the Foglight housing to sit nearly flush with the bumper.

Also took the back seat out, as well as the rear deck so that I can roadkill the whole backseat/rear deck/ C pillars with sound deadening.

Ordered Infinity Kappa series 6.5" two way speakers... should be here wednesday.

Ordered complete factory alarm upgrade from a Dealer half way across the country... $50 shipped... not bad at all.

Decided that I will wire my 35w reflector foglight bulbs to the parking lights and the projector lens to the foglight switch.

My cousins bugeye runs 12.5 seconds in the 1/4 mile on a paper filter in the factory intake setup... an intake or different filter is not a big deal on subarus. If you get much over 450-500 HP you can look into something.

I think is has a lot to do with how they placed the engine at or behind the front axle to make it a "proper" RWD car.

Also, the Subaru version is projected to have a turbo mill, the Scion version N/A only (86 garbage and all that), the former being a few thousand more expensive/up-market than the latter. Whether this actually means an STI version is planned remains to be seen, but I'd say there's a 50/50 shot there will be.

Bought:

- BG blisten shocks, all four for $50
- 2 BG/BD grills with green L7 emblem - $45 each
- 1 BG/BD power folding heated mirrors with switch - $90
- 2 BE/BH aluminum control arms - $100 for the set
- 1 JDM bumper and bumper beam without fogs - $100
- 1 RFRB BG spoiler - $50

I will be going back next week to get:

1 set of TIEN coilovers
1 set of Aero gaurds
2 new front windows (because mine are scratched as hell)

I swapped out my bumper beam when I got home, rebent my fog light brackets (because I JUST pounded them flat) and mounted them to the bumper beam.

I finally was able to buy from that JDM seller close by... so I took full advantage of it for myself and Elislider.

What ever happened to the FS thread?

It was deleted because I, nor the JDM seller, are vendors with the site... so I cant sell for him or on his behelf. I am still pending clarification on whether or not I can just buy the parts and put them on ebay with a link or if I cant sell them at all...

we will see.

You can only get a set of rotors turned once most of the time. there is a minimum thickness stamped on the rotors that they cannot be machined below. Why would you turn them and basically waist the material on the rotors.

Drive the car with the rotors on it and apply the brake a few times, the rust will come off the surface of the rotor without any issues. Trust me on this i just bought a 99 GT thats been sitting for 3 months and drove it for 2 days and all the rust on the rotor surfaces are now gone.

racingking951

no it will underdrive/underpower your power steering pump and alt.

i had the ebay knock-off one (which is basically the same lightweight and underdrive) and it sucked a** because it was made from some cheap metal that would get small chips in it. this caused me to have to replace the belt every month or two till i finally got Kartboy pulley that is only light weight.

in my opinion i feel as if the my steering is easier with the kartboy pulley compared to the underdrive one i was using

It is smaller than stock which means the crank has to use less power to turn it. It shouldn't screw up the timing because it doesn't change the diameter of any of the timing belt pulleys. Unless you get the matching pulleys on the alt and PS pump, they won't spin as fast with the UD pulley, possibly causing undercharging issues or poor PS feel. I am not noticing any of that at all. It is a much smoother experience with the pulley, but I think it is what is causing my multiple misfires that my computer is picking up. It only started with those codes after I installed the LWCP.

I had this happen to me a little while ago... same thing... misfire on all 4 cylinders.

The issue for me was that there was a TINY amount of play between the crank SPROCKET and the Crankshaft.

The keyway that the crank sprocket fits over on the crankshaft had a sliver of space in it where things had come loose and the key in the crankshaft had slammed into the wall of the crank sprocket.

So when I opened up my timing cover and took the belt off... I could grab the crank sprocket (which is supposed to be 100% solid to your crankshaft) and rotate it ever so slightly while it was on the crankshaft... back and fourth.

Once I replaced the crank sprocket and crankshaft Keyway... it solved my problem.

Same CEL too... while driving at highway speeds, it would start flashing with no noticeable change in performance... then it would go away for a while.

I actually replaced the sprocket and keyway for that reason, and there is no play on the sprocket.

My theory on why I am getting misfires on all 4 cylinders is due to the alt not giving enough power to the coil because it is underdriven.

ok then, what sort of change does it give the engine? does it take away and torque? I'm not getting a lightweight flywheel due to the loss in torque so I dont want to do the same on the pulley side.

You won't lose torque from a LWCP. You will notice an increase in performance from the butt dyno. Whether it is actual is beyond me on the Scoobies. It made a big difference when I put them on my DSMs and Firebirds. It allows the engine to spin more freely due to less weight it has to turn. I did notice a bump in fuel economy when I put it on, as long as I drive sanely. Doing 65 I get about 25 mpg. Doing 80, I get about 21.

It's been awhile since I've been in here but I did a lot of stuff this week.
Fixed power steering. The clip that holds the hydraulic lines on the back of the steering ram broke and the constant vibration wore a hole into the inlet line. You may remember me complaining about the loss of power steering. I was in a hurry, had to make a road trip and needed the car. Since the line was dry, I used JB Weld to make a collar around the hole and let it set. Then I cut some rubber tubing and made a chaffing guard and zip stripped it together. Eight hundred miles later, still no leaks and I have power steering again.

Got my AC working again. The tension pulley track somehow got bent. Not sure how. I bent it back and put a new belt on. Feels good because it's hotter than hell here in Texas.

Wondered why my alternator was bouncing around a little, found the hinge bolt was missing the nut. Loc Tite a new one in. (hight heat loc tite)

Thermal wrap to the headers, high heat silicone spray to the rest of the exhaust. Looks alright. Car still smokes as the heat tape is baking in but hopefully that will stop, tired of people telling me my car's on fire.

New solid plastic battery hold down, the rubber one wore out and started cracking.

Put in a new shift boot. Actually had to use a Mr. Gasket made one from Advance Auto. It's generic but it fits from underneath the bezel. Looks legit.

Polished headlights and fog lamps. I can see at night!

Several exhaust header studs had fused to the bolts and over time they corroded and started to come out of place. I bought some replacement studs and replaced them all.

Put high temperature loc-tite on a lot of bolts and nuts because I'm getting tired of losing hardware due to vibration.

Drove my car 810 miles recently on a road trip to see my parents. Had no problems until I got back. I cleared 160,000 miles and the P0325 knock sensor failure tripped. Just my luck.

My theory on why I am getting misfires on all 4 cylinders is due to the alt not giving enough power to the coil because it is underdriven.
I did a mod to raise the alt output half a volt, check it out here (http://www.scoobymods.com/raise-your-alternator-voltage-t10547.html).

Felt good...and wicked steamed as I passed Speedway gas station here in town... $4.15 effing jerks. Car is full at the moment. If, and when they are the only station on planet Earth....I buy a Schwinn! This is royally assinine. Avoid Speedway. They are the first( and last ) to chenge their prices. The well is poisoned this week, now. Be well all.

Well, Installed the Muteki lug nuts i ordered the other day, took of the Dynaviews and put them on another bracket and ordered a Hella FF1000 to go between them.
Checked all the fluids, Will get the last of the AC contoller lights installed by the weekend.
Also serviced the AC itself, new R134 Refrigerant, flushed system. Good as new :)

I'm changing my crankshaft seal, camshaft seals, and O ring
Do I have to drain my oil out before I take off the oil pump?
Also I'm replacing my cam seals right now and on my left cam
I put the top in further than the bottom, is that bad?

The seals should be about flush with the surrounding surface, that could be bad. I made that mistake on my rear main. :-(

Ok, should I drain my oil? when I take off the pump, and there's like this little paper gasket that goes on behind it, do I like buy sealer and put it on that paper gasket in between? What kind of sealer should I buy?

Yes I'd drain the oil. It uses RTV sealant. If you don't have it grab a copy of the service manual here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=20753 (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=20753)

Ok but is it absolutely necessary to drain the oil?

I doubt it, I've never removed the oil pump with then engine in the car but I imagine the block leaking oil from it would make getting a good seal with the RTV difficult. You could actually just take the pump off first, then drain it later if it keeps dripping from there.

ok, thanks-can I get the RTV at O'Reillys?

Any auto parts store. There are different kinds of RTV silicon sealant, read the packaging to get one that works best for your application (parts exposed to engine oil and 300+ degrees F).
