Today I installed 2.2 uel single port headers. They bolted up perfectly! Replaced all the exhaust gaskets and hollowed the second cat that doesn't have an O2 sensor. It sounds really good, I have a SPT muffler I'm considering selling for something slightly louder.

Hmm, it's been quite a while since I've posted on here.
The LGT got a few mods a few weeks ago, and to put my mind at ease, I double checked the AFR's with RomRaider on my laptop today. Everything looks great!

Installed a GrimmSpeed MCB today... Zip tied the fuel regulator in place till I can make a mounting plate (its about 1.5" off in the 3.0R model compared to the LGT)
A friend got me a Black and Decker Auto Vac... Works very well. Made me want to do more cleaning and even frebreezing today.
Gave the exterior of the car a light bath and hosed down some of the mud in the engine bay.

I just got the flip keys together, need to get them cut then wait till they can be programmed. If a locksmith does it, are they just making the chips mirror the working keys or same process of having all the keys you want to work present?

Right, from what I've been able to gather the gen 2s didn't have cabin air filters...which seems silly. I was hoping it had just been omitted from the user's manual but I guess not.

Sorry about the lateness, that was on the '08. As far as I could work out the 2nd gens in the US didn't come with cabin filters (I know mine had loads of leaves stuck in the blower...).

Today I exchanged an envelope full of 'murican currency for a red 06 Outback XT limited 5MT. I put in 4 hours in the driver's seat of my buddy's forester heading out to Minneapolis, then 5 hours in the OBXT with a detour to Grimmspeed on the way back home. Handles like a half deflated beach ball, but other than that I love the car. Suspension + wheels + exhaust and I'll be a happy man. Already had tint, weathertechs, and rally armor flaps when I bought it.

Drilled a hole in a perfectly good tow hook cover for the plate relocation today. Once I get caught up on customer lights I'll be doing a projector retrofit and some winter prep detailing. These stock halogens are terrible when you're used to FX-Rs with 50w HIDs, 100w halogen highs, and a bunch of overkill aux lighting.

On my '97 L wagon have been hearing weird humming coming from engine compartment. I thought maybe power steering pump. Couldn't locate the sound so took it to my Subaru mechanic. He asked me to start the car and before I could get out he was pointing at my air filter housing where the bottom tabs holding it on were broken. I guess it's common and yes I am no mechanic.

If it makes you feel better, 05's have a empty tray for most that build year. I took half the car apart to change it and I be d*** if there wasn't anything in there. There is a kit to make 05 filter changes easy, I'll try and source that out next year.

The duct on the hood doesn't go completely down to the intercooler. This has been covered numerous times on lgt.com, removing the stock engine cover decreases the already crap efficiency of the lgt/obxt intercooler.

Car didnt want to start the previous night, we were able to bumpstart it in reverse tho (manual ftw) and drive back to my garage. First thought it was the clutch switch, bypassed that - it worked for a little bit but stopped after the 2nd start attempt. Did more diagnosing, starter was dead. Had the original starter in the box, so replaced my starter, then proceeded to clean air filter, & change the oil.

My friend came in his deep bronze metallic 3.0R and another guy was there in a harvest gold 3.0R and even with us three parked together I forgot to get a picture. This afternoon I wet-sanded and polished the headlights on the wagon. Its better. I also put some Silver Stars in the low beams on the wagon to replace the bulbs that were in the jdm headlights back when I bought them about 5 years ago.

I do too. The AVCS version of the EZ30D on the 4th gen has a nice performance bump from the 3rd gen version as well. But yes, those idler pulleys should be replaced first thing. When they go, they shred the belt and cause quite the mess. Proactively replacing them is cheap insurance.

So, the 3rd gen EZ30D had 23770AA000 Pulleys which were superseded with 23770AA020, but that is the 4th gen EZ30D part. My understanding is that the 4th gen still has the issue.
The good news is that they seem to last about 100k miles before going, so replacing them with new parts will keep them all set for a while at least.

Well, here is what I did to my BH GT in the past two days.
Two days ago, I washed and waxed whatever paint the previous two owners left intact, and meticulously cleaned all of my windows, inside and out. The windows alone took me 45 minutes, since every time I would go to step back, I would spot a streak or a smudge. I also sprayed tire-wet on my tires to avoid scrubbing them.
Yesterday, Saturday, I tossed my cheap headers, replacement trim piece, and air filter in my trunk, made a pit-stop at the dentist, then drove to the shop I work at (they are closed on Saturday, so I get to use the tools and lifts to work on my car). After fitting the trim that fits between the back passenger door and the front of the wheel well, I noticed that it was the wrong part, I mean, it fit, and it was listed as the same part number that Subaru listed for that piece, but it sticks out an inch from the rest of the body. Well, it matches my paint and is better than three holes, so I will leave it. Next, I put my car on the lift and went to work installing my SpeadyRacer UEL Headers. Boy, it sure shows that you get what you pay for, as I had to spread the head flanges about half an inch to get them over the studs in the head, but other than that, it was a pretty straight forward install (after I destroyed both of the bolts that attached it to the front cat).
I just wish I didn't have as much homework, as I would love to help my coworker and his team prepare their '89 civic for the 24 hours of LeMons.

I need to pick up a BH for myself. Previous two owners of my 56,000 mile 2001 sucked at everything that involved hands and feet, as every single body panel is damaged. I've already replaced the taillights and rear garnish.

Just ordered a used wiper/indicator arm assembly from Germany (living in Denmark). Planning on doing a DIY on changing it out. My Legacy BG does not have adjustable interval or dimmer. From what I have read on Forrester and Impreza forums you just have to replace the wiper arm to get the adjustable interval settings, so hoping that applies for BG's aswell :)

The 3.0R is a 2008. It has about 300.000 km on the clock (186500 miles). A clamp had failed on the lower radiator hose, and it ran very little without coolant. But the harm was done, and the heads had to be machined. Now it's hopefully good for another 300.000 km :) We did the timing chain recently, so that's basicly new. ;)

Any engine will blow a headgasket if it overheats enough. This isn't indicative of a common failure. The consensus on the Tribeca forums is that the EZ30D and EZ36D don't have an overabundance of head gasket failures - they were more common on the first gen EZ30 found in the 3rd gen Legacy/Outback.

Yes those two things goes hand in hand, overheating leads to HG failure eventually. Though the EZ30R that is in my moms car has held up very well. No larger maintenance work required, just the regular oil and filter change. Of course with quality oil that meets Subaru specs :) So overall no complaints about the reliability of the EZ30! ;) And it drives great, very smooth running engine!

I wouldnt worry about it too much. The H6 is not known for HG issues. Sure, they crop up from time to time, but it is nothing like the issues with the EJ25. Mostly they come down to poor maintenance, so just keep up with it and you should be fine.

I second this. In our case it was operator error when installing the new waterpump when we did the timing chains. So my father forgot to "unlock" the clamp. The radiator clamps has the abillity to lock in the "open" position to make it easier to take them off. He forgot to release it again, then the hose popped off.

I know there are two sensors - I believe one controls the gauge, the other might send info the ECU. Might not be the one that's sending info to the gauge, especially since it's a trouble code, which would be activated by the ECU.

Had to put couple of pounds of Air in the tire since the light was on the Legacy. Drove it into work today. It's been sitting for about a month due to way past over due maintenance. Next Friday I will be doing oil, front and rear diff fluid change on the Legacy. I be all caught up on maintenance. When I get some time the Legacy need a serious bath.
I been really busy working 7 days 70-80hrs a week and squeezing in my doctor appointments during my working hours :( I don't have enough time anytime soon and my other vehicles need attention (big jobs).
UPDATE:
Finally did the oil change, front and rear diff, coolant, and replace driver HID ballast on the Legacy on 11/18. Now I need to take it in for a wiper motor recall and I notice a extended hard cold start. I will have the dealer look at the camshaft sensor and maybe do a re-flash to see if it will solved the issue while it's doing the recall.
This week I'm ordering (2) rear tires for my MB. Then after that I can finally order the Continental DWS for the Legacy and hope I get it install before the first snow.

Well, seeing how I have a roof rack on my '01 Leggy Wagon, and I am a rather festive person, I wanted to put up some Christmas lights on my car. However, I am really into technology, and modding, and modding technology into things, so I can't just run some LED strings off of an inverter. No, the flickering would be too distracting for passing drivers! I need to rectify the AC back into DC, then cut off the second half of each light string and reverse the polarity to make them all turn on at the same time. So, a trip to the local RadioShack and about five hours of soldering later, I've about 50 feet of lights on the roof, with a switch next to my seat, full bridge rectifier under my seat, and a power cable going up by the B pillar. Yeah, I'm pretty proud of myself, pulling into school each morning, seeing all those red noses and window-antlers, while I have THESE (https://goo.gl/photos/48EB77uunhSmruqF9).
Next things to do in preparation for winter: (1) wire up a relay to close the FWD fuse circuit so that when I lift my handbrake, the back will disconnect from the center diff, and (2) replace fog light pods with small LED bars.

I did something like this to filter noise with an MP3 player to FM modulator setup where the modulator was physically inline with the antenna cable - it ended up getting engine noise, which I used the inverter to filter out.

Wiscon_Mark Huh. I've had this idea kicking around in my head for a while now about a universal, plug-n-play sequential shift light device. I thought about pulling engine RPM and power out of the OBD port, but seeing as I can only read data out of there at about 500ms intervals, using it for a shift light would defeat the purpose. Using an arduino to map the alternator whine into which lights to power is a lot more reliable now that I think about it. Just use two trimmer potentiometers to tell it when the first and last block should light up, and bam, you've got yourself another way to kill 50 bucks.

The fire I mentioned earlier was my 3d printer. Only thing that saved my house was that I had the door closed. Anyways, here is my grille as it stands now. I want to get a different piece of mesh (one piece, actually, instead of the three I have) and probably paint it black.

Just had the wiper motor replaced under the recall over the weekend. I asked them about the CVT trans fluid they only change it if it's dirty. They only do a fill up to the fill hole. There is a procedure on doing this with hooking up the computer and getting the CVT transmission to a certain temperature. They could not look at the hard start issue on the weekend I have to reschedule it for the weekday :(
Subaru said I need to do front (5mm)/rear (3mm) brake pads and tires soon. I be ordering Akebono this week since I run there pads on my Mercedes and on my Acura.

Installed cheap urethane front sway bushings and stock type end links to silence a front end rattle. Successful!
Bolted a 22" LED bar on top of the bumper, partly sunk into the trimmed grille.
1400 lumen LED reverse lights and red LED 1157 replacement tail/brake bulbs installed, the reverse lights REALLY light up the garage at night backing it in.
Also recently put in a Whiteline 20mm rear sway bar, they seem to be recently discontinued so I got one before remaining stock dries up.
Recently replaced the valve cover gaskets too, oil leaks seem to be completely gone.
Bought rear brake pads yesterday but it's really cold out. Will install after work this week.

I'm sorry for being a lurker most of the time :( but I finally grew a pair and did something major with my Legacy.
After getting the head gasket done, the timing belt guide was not spaced correctly and promptly killed the tensioner pulley. So this past Saturday I did a timing belt and pulley job all by myself (first time ever doing a timing belt). Feeling ambitious, I tried to replace my shifter linkage as well with the TurnInConcepts unit. Couldn't pop the second (larger) pin out and it was 11:30 at night, so I buttoned it back up and called it a night.
I rotated my tires on Sunday, and then reinstalled the timing belt inspection cover today.

I'm on a roll now... Friday, I got a 1/4" punch and was able to knock the larger roll pin out for the shifter linkage (I named the 2 roll pins bastard 1 and 2), the second big struggle was getting the 6 mm allen bolt threaded on the other end of the shifter linkage. After an hour long struggle, it finally went in. I tried to install the Perrin polyurethane shifter bushings, but was unable to wrestle the old one out (I thought it was 2 pieces like the Perrin kit). It was nearly 1 AM so I figured I should give it up and stop disrupting the neighbors.

Today I installed a Perrin short shift adapter that I got for Christmas last year. Install wasn't terrible aside from the adapter sitting snug on the shift lever. After installation, it felt right, but after driving for a while, the ball came out of the socket while on the freeway. That was a bit scary, pulled over, took the bezel off looks like the ball did not fully seat into the socket, pounded it back on and all was good on the remainder of a 120 mile trip.

Yesterday, took it to AZP to get it evaluated by Subaru guys and the results are in and it pretty well sucks. Rear diff has been clunking around for quite some time and needs new bushings. They believe a day of labor to get the old bushing frame out so time to punt on that, maybe the Whiteline space fillers and a bunch of window weld. Oil leak in front is coming from behind the oil pump, so a full teardown of the front of the engine to fix that one. Biggest problems are not mechanical but rust on the underbody. It's missing a huge chunk behind the front passenger wheel, exposing a bunch of structure that shouldn't see road gunk, but is now getting hammered with it.

One of the drain-tubes appeared completely clogged. Opened up the opening then poured the some water in to test it and it all come out inside the car again. Removed the sunshades, 'oh shit handle' and some trim and discovered the passenger side drain-tube was off. Not sure if already off, or I knocked it off cleaning it. I'm hoping it doesn't leak like this next time it's rained. It's had fans shoved under the carpet for over 24 hours now and it's still soaking. It's idling in the yard now with the heat blasting in hopes the warmer air will hold more water and dry it out.
