Installed some awesome DIY rally flaps on the rear, now to do some rust "repair" on the front fenders and install the front flaps

Not sure what I think until they are installed on the car. Very shiny though.
Agree'd Awaiting photos
Got them on the car along with the halos and such. I'll post pictures later tonight so I can post both day time and night time shots. So far, I think they look pretty good. Although, the halos I have are kinda shitty. But, whatever. I'll replace them at some point in the future.

Ordered my new front and back discs and pads :) Going to get them on Saturday as well as paint for my calipers.
Any color suggestion for the caliper to go with my marine blue sedan? :)

Okie dokie. All done with the blacked out, HID, USDM light patterned, halo'd and clear lensed JDM projector headlight project. Granted, the pictures really don't do it justice but you can pretty much get the idea. Also, keep in mind my car is awaiting it's new paint job which should be coming shortly (charcoal grey and more...) so it shouldn't look so off-colored...

Nice right up on the headlights, it may be something I want to try after all. Has anyone ever put projectors in the high beams too? Is it possible?
I registered my new 97' and bought the few gaskets to put the "new" motor back in it. I decided to throw my STI springs/struts in it while it's in the garage, and hopefully I'll get some tires for my 17" 5spoke LGT wheels soon too. I haven't decided if I'm going to put the turbo cross member in it now or later either.

Well...I scored (yet to be picked up) a set of 02 WRX calipers, brackets, and a few other goodies for next to nothing. I know the disc for the rear rotor is the same size but are the rear calipers different at all?
Im going to install them anyway just because they have less miles. Should I get my rear rotors turned because of the lip that developed on the outside edge.
They should be a nice change from my little L brakes.

Ok so your car should have:
power assisted 10.2" front disc, 10.5 rear disc,
The 02 WRX should have:
Front: 11.4" vented twin-caliper piston. Rear: 10.3" solid disc
If you have the caliper brackets, everything should bolt up fine - you'll need 16" wheels to clear the front brake though. Those front brakes are the same size as the 04 GT.

Thanks Huffer, I have 95 'L' factory brakes. The Nasioc brake guide list the rear rotors as the same for both of vehicles.
266x10mm
The most common Subaru rear rotor. It uses a single piston sliding caliper, of which there are a few variations. Early Legacy sedans (non-turbo) and Imprezas have a smaller piston than Legacy wagons and turbos, and there are a few bracket/caliper revisions.
Applications:
90-99 Legacies/Outbacks with rear discs non-turbo
93-07 Imprezas with rear discs (except sti, 06-07 wrx)
98-08 Foresters with rear discs
Bajas
As for rims, I am running 16" LGT Snowflakes.
I am wondering if the rear caliper is different (like a bigger piston or something). I am getting the calipers and brackets, both front and back, and the front dust shields.
Should I get the rear rotors turned? They are not super old but have developed a rust lip on the outside of edge of the rotor.

Thanks and yes, it's totally possible. There are actually quite a few write-ups on how to retro fit USDM projectors into non-HID or non-USDM light housings. I'll dig some up and post them.
The only reason I didn't do it for the high-beams was because I wired my low-beams to stay on with the high-beams. So, projectors and high-beams are on at the same time. Lights up the area ahead like no one's business. :)

The rear caliper will be a slightly different design but will work just the same - single piston.
It would make sense to turn the rear rotors - then you can hit the lip and the center with some hi-temp paint to reduce corrosion.

^^ I was thinking the same thing - it would be an even sharper cut off if you just either ground down the cutoff with a dremel, or cut a strip of aluminium/tin and did the same thing instead of foil. It wouldn't have to be thick, just thin enough to round out and straight enough of a cut.

Honestly, I played with quite a few metals before going the foil route. From an output standpoint, there was absolutely no difference at all. So, for the write-up I used foil because it's accessible and mold-able by anyone. Cheap, easy and just as affective as anything else that we tested. The only thing I can think of that might be better is some sort of very dull metal that is completely non-reflective. We tried a few variants but it didn't stick out enough to not go the simple route. As long as light doesn't pass it, it's all good to go!

Picked up the Brakes. Wont be installing these for away, ran outta money. Person included used pads with minor wear. So All I need to do is get new front rotors and get the back ones turned. In the meantime, I'll start painting em.
Got a subwoofer with it (thats being in pain in the ass) as well as the latch for the pass through door in the WRX seats. That wasn't an exact fit, had to drill a new hole about 3/4 of and in lower on it.
Subwoofer is an OEM one. Installed it but I can't get it working. All the connections appear fine and the fuses look good. Any ideas, tell me in my other post (https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=22209)

Got a few things done! Replaced my steering wheel with a Momo from an '04 WRX, got some LED tail lights, and replaced my old rear shifter stay with an STI one.
While we're talking about brakes, can I bolt 2-pot fronts on my L and keep the same L disks to clear 14"s for the winter? Or at other calipers just too big on their own? Other options?

Crap blew my lower radiator hose tonight must of been while on the highway.. I noticed the temp going up and not coming back down.. So I pull over at the rest stop which btw is the first one you get to when you get into CT.. I start filling the radiator and that's when I see it pouring on the ground looking down.. SO i'm like shit I don't have any tape..
So just my luck I ran into some other people that needed help.. some stuff that fell off a truck broke his 2nd cat on his car and it was dragging so he was asking if I had some way to keep it up.. All I really had in my tool bag was my welding wire.. So I used that to hold it up until he can get home.. He gave me a lift to get some tape from a near by store, it worked for a while but the car was so hot it never really stuck well (I cleaned it good)
Please let this next week go by quick... Because Friday I'm going to go right into pulling the heads as soon as I put my engine picking together.

the wrx radiator have entanks on top/bottom while the bd legacy have them on the sides. So the wrx are taller. i had to cut and push down the lower radiator support by like an inch or inch and a half and reweld it. also used impreza radiator bracket since the legacy use a long bar that clamp down on the radiator and dented the bottom of the hood where it meets the radiator cap just to make sure it doesn't hit. after all that, then it'll fit ok
those are the legacy stock fans with hardware store brackets. it needs a different coolant reservoir cause i can't put the upper a/c on (luckily my a/c is not working)

hey does anyone know what kinda off set a BD needs for 17's? I've been looking for OEM 05ish GT wheels, but everyone wants a butt load for them. Found some cheapy aftermarket's for under $400 shipped with a +40 offset...
eekay
07-22-2011, 01:22 PM
Stock offset on the BD is +53. If you can roll your fenders in the rear, you should be able to get away with the +40's. Anything lower than that I would avoid.

Monkeys! I dont wanna roll my quarters... But they would look cool! haha... Well, if they didnt stick out, I hate that crap... I dont know anything about sizing wheels for a car. Thats the one thing I suck at.
What size tires would you run with +40's? I was thinking 205/45/17... Or should they be 205/50? I'm also adding H&R springs when I do the wheels
httrdd
07-22-2011, 03:29 PM
Depends on width. I would not run anything over a 215 unless you want to roll and pull em just like I had to. :( I am on Wrx struts and Eibch springs though.

I would stop at 215 as well. Anything below a 215/45 should be safe. Depending on your width, it's hard to say if the 215/50's would work. Last thing you want is to be rubbing on your strut spring cups...

I'll have to measure again after some driving, but so far it only lower the car 1/4-1/2 inch. Hopefully I'll be getting tires for my 17's tomorrow/ Sunday, so I'll have to see how it looks, but I see STI/Wrx lowering springs in my future.

These are actually a total pain in the ass... What I ended up doing is pushing the needles all the way down and then SLIGHTLY lifting them up just a touch or until you feel/hear the small click. The RPM gauge was by far the most difficult. Even when you get it moving freely it might not be where it needs to be. For this, I pointed the needle straight down and pushed it all the way in and pulled up slightly to have it moving freely. Afterward, I spun the need counter-clockwise (away from the resting point or backwards) and let it hit the resting point. Then, started to car to make sure it worked properly. Of course, other times, I was never able to get the gauge(s) to work properly and would have to end up replacing them and swapping the faces. It'll take a lot of trial and error but you should be able to do it. Good luck!

Riding around the city with the ac blowing nice cold air...
Then the ac stops blowing cold air...
Looked at engine temp gauge and saw in horror as it rested in the highest position for hot...
Immediately pulled over and shut off the engine as the radiator developed a pressure leak... :smt010
So I spent the next 2 hours in the napa parking lot replacing the radiator, both hoses, all for clamps, and the thermostat only to have it over heat again 5 minutes later :smt009
I guess I'll spend tomorrow flushing the system and pressure testing it as I try to find out whats wrong since 8 months ago I rebuilt my heads, replaced my headgaskets, and replaced my water pump.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/07/wrxradiatormounted-1.jpg
Now that's cool. But the only issue I see is if I do this and I want to ever adjust the power steering belt the top radiator hose is now all up in my business. Or if my car decides to throw the belt off like it's done twice in the past, it'll probably nick the hose.
I like to lurk through this particular thread to see what I could be doing with my car.
I noticed today there is a tiny bit of oil dripping out between the engine block and the center timing belt cover. Nothing tremendous, but just a little bead of oil.

Bringing the car into the dealer today and tomorrow.
- 96K km service (I'm a bit overdue since i'm at 99.5K km)
- Front and Back Rotors install (Mountain in front and Fremax in back if I remember well)
- Front and Back Pads install (Hawks HPS pads all around)
- Front and Back Callipers will be taken appart, sandblasted, painted with VHT paint, re-assembled and installed
- Perrin LWP install
- Code Check (Check Engine came On again yesterday with the cruise light flashing. Second or Third time this happens. Lasts for about a day then dissapears for 4-6 months.) Hopefully they find out with it is and get it fixed.
- Overall inspection and parts change if needed under warranty since I'm on the verge of the end of my 100K km warranty
All in all, about 8 hours minimum of work, probably a bill around 1K, but well worth it for another 10 years of pleasure :)
Can't wait already to have it back ;)

Don't avoid it. If you can get the rotor off, you can do the adjustment while the rotor is off and save some grief. Couple of clicks, back to normal. Otherwise you have a really stupid 2 jellybean size access hole to work with.

So spent several hours helping clear debris and pulling cars from under trees. Very minor structural damage at least. Thank god it was a small tornado.

It's a PITA... I have all the parts, but for some odd reason, they didnt pre-wire my GT for heated mirrors and seats and I'm doing both. I also got all the elements for the seats and switches and such.
From what I'm making of it, you really only need to run 3 or 4 wires to make both work, but I'm not much of a wiring guy. These are the last 2 USDM options I dont have. I thought about doing the folding ones, but I would never use them. The heated parts I would though! I go to MT Rainier all the time in the winter for snow shoeing and snowboarding...

It's totally true. I used to have one on my wife's car - I got alignments 4 times a year. As soon as you get 3 alignments you've paid for it.
Basically they get you in the door and say "car's aligned, but we found XXX wrong. Want to fix it?" It's not dodgy, it's a legit sales technique using a good service.

This is correct. I paid $150 per cam for my weld and grind so my total came out to $600. Depending on the type of grind you want, it varies in price. But, $450 is probably a good ballpark number.

I'll be doing this conversion soon as well. I just want to get my car and all the stuff painted first. I'll probably do all the wiring first though so it's good to go. I also still need the button. So, if anyone has a spare I'll buy it from them!
Hrm. That's interesting... Did you look under the carpet near the center console for the wiring for the heated seats? The heated mirrors are common to not be wired but I was under the impression that EVERY BD/BG/BK was wired for the heated seats. Also, if you haven't seen it yet, check out this DIY for the heated mirrors wiring: https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?t=16941

No you don't. Delta Cam will take bare cams in a box. You CAN send the heads in and then they will actually do some PnP work and install new valve springs with the cams if you pay them for it. But it's optional.

I sent my cams in from my Phase I DOHC and they didn't mention anything about the heads. I sent the bare cams in a box and got them back the same way. Although, I did pay $600 for the torque grind plus shipping. So far, it seems well worth it though!

Getting ready to put my WRX calipers on. One question.
I have brembo rotors in the rear and they are only about 2 years old and I don't really want to replace them. Wear isn't that bad but it does have a raised outside edge. Should I have the turned to swap the rear caliper?

This is what they told me about the Delta cams for a Ej25D
DOHC is $125.00 per cam. They have to be weld/grind. There simply isn't enough shim available to make up for the lost basecircle. You can install 2.2 heads for the "franken" motor and those run $82.50 each.
Hmm something to think about.. I don't understand what they mean by not enough shim

There isn't enough material on the original cam for them to reprofile it (aka grind) to their specs. So, they have to weld new material on, then grind it down. If you look at the exhaust and intake lobes on a cam, they're shaped differently. The shape is what determines lift and duration, which in turn determines torque and hp.

Yeah, I got it off a 99 SUS. I thought that 98's had them also but I'm not sure. I know 97 didnt since my customer's car had just the normal OB grill. But yeah, it was the SUS only. Installed the front WRX suspension and brakes. Having an issue with the passenger side. It was leaking from where the hose meets the the body connector. Had to use thread tape to get it to stop. Also that line has an expanding bulge in it (to what I hear, my brother was looking at it while I was at work). Would that be causing the fitting issue?
The flare nut should not need any tape around it to connect with your brake lines - that's the first issue. It's possible that your brake line has some kind of deposit in there and is causing a fitment and/or flow problems. My suggestion is to take the line off and blow air through it, or buy a replacement line. They're pretty inexpensive.

Talked with my brother about it. He noticed that it looked like someone took pliers to the brake line for the passenger side and it might be a little mis-shaped.
No one sells front brake hoses for an 02-03 WRX in my area. Advance Auto, AutoZone, Napa. All of them did not have it even in their system.

If the flare nut is busted then you have to replace the hardline section with a flare. If its your flexible line then you can use any brake line from 98-05 legacy or impreza. They're all the same. Just make sure you get the line for the position on the car.

Thanks Huffer! Found some SS line on eBay. Is it alright if I upgrade the front to SS and leave the rear one rubber?

No. You have to use the same lines all the way around. All rubber, or all steel. The reason is that the steel lines don't expand/flex as much as the rubber ones - so you'll have uneven brake pressure in the system as a result. That's not a good thing. Ideally you want to replace all four lines at the same time.

Post up the carnage in your MR1 thread. Or on mine.... I have my quick taps wrapped up and insulated, and they're pretty protected.

I have Borla UEL's right now and I'm pretty set on going back to EL's but I can't find them ANYWHERE. I'm wondering if my only chance is going back to the stock header? Anyhow, they sounds super great but for whatever reason I can definitely feel the power loss. *shrugs*

So I went to a yard yesterday to get a overflow tank for a customers CRX and walked through the Subaru line... They have an 01 Outback with perfect black leather seats... They told me $300... I'm thinking I might be going back today. My wagon has cloth... Do BH's have different door panel cards like BG/BK/BD's?

The door panels will not bolt up from one generation to another.

I still have my stock headers in the garage, and I've thought about putting them back on every time I see them. I want to see if I can feel some power come back or not.

I'd say it's certainly worth a shot. :) Honestly, with my N/A Legacy's I never really felt a difference one way or the other. With the turbo in there, I can definitely feel the difference.

Yeah, I know they are different, I was just wondering if they changed out like the 2nd gen Leggys (the insert peaces)... I looked at the ones in my wagon and it looks like they dont, but I didnt take it off yet... So I thinking I'm gonna need the full door panels also... bla... :smt017

so i went to a local u pull it and got a set of BD tweeters and the piece with the grill in it for $4.85. Now I dont know who said they done fit on a BE, however the lined up perfect to my existing holes and fit , and look perfect. Also I got a new exhaust tip, which looks snazzy, and I got some mothers head light polish, and cleaned them bad boys up.
Im gonna get some pics of the tweeters.. but I dont know what everyone is talking about/

The bd tweeters do not fit a be. Did you actually pull them or buy them from the counter?

I know what you mean, all the difference I noticed when I put the new ones on was the sound! No power gains that's for sure. Then I had to get heat wrap to cover up the awful noise lol

I pulled them from a BD GT myself. Not from counter. the only thing that doesnt fit is they are a slight shape difference and it hits the door weather stipping when closed... but seriously if that is what everyone is complaining about, I dont see the problem. As far and the wholes go, they line right up 100%.

Just started up my motor after doing the headgaskets and timing belt... well it starts.. but I got this werid steam stuff from the passenger side and the motor sounds like it's missing when I give it sharp throttle..
I was working outside in a thunderstorm and I did not have the wires plugged into the coil pack but I don't know what do you think?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx7Ecy6_BJ0
water got in the coil pack plugs and I need a nut for one of the exhaust studs (anyone know the size?)

Ya man, you got me on that one. Sounds like there's something slightly off. Any CELs? The steam could be water from the thunderstorm on the engine.
