Put the rear strut bar back in, still have to paint it yellow to match the front but for now i don't care. Basically now I'm maintaining the car and not buying anything to mod it, til this summer!

I'd like to see pix of your strut braces, front and rear! Well, you've got a wagon so the rear would probably be different than my sedan application, but I'm still interested none the less.
Can you post measurements, mostly tube diameter for them?
thanks!
I keep on forgetting sorry!!! Maybe tomorrow I'll get to it.

It's actually much easier to open and close the tail gate now with that bar, more so than I thought it would.

Nice on the gate bar! I searched junk yards for a couple years before I finally found one...
still in the shed waiting for time to complete the project ;)

Ooh, pic of the braces and diameters, if they're round... lots are oval, so not useful for my interest. I'm planning to fab one.

my exhaust guy (yes I have an exhaust guy) and I were talking after i swapped out my o2 sensor about the busted cat, he was telling me most of the magnaflow cat's that he installs that don't come from his supplier come back in a few months like mine, busted. On the flip side the ones he gets from his parts supplier have the same part numbers as what people bring in but look different on the outside and the don't go bad in 6 months

The best part about putting in that bar is I couldn't see what I was doing, screwing it in has to be done all by feel. I got it perfectly level tho! It was my personal "A" for the day.

Anyone know how to pop the black foglight covers off of an 03?

I got my foglight tint and I don't have access to my lift this week, so I can't take the entire housing out from under the car. I figured I could pop the black housings off, but when I tried there wasn't much flex to them and I didn't want them to break.

And also wired up the SVX power mode for the 4EAT into the manual button on the shifter with a 2 way switch under the dash to flip it back to manual mode if i ever need to pull the TCU trouble codes.

You could join them, but you MUST solder and shrink rap, you cannon just crimp them together. It is probably better in the long run to use one wire, but IMHO not worth it. Just make sure the joint is protected well enough.

Haha, no it's OBD-I. I'd do a hybrid with USDM WRX heads & OBD-II electrical if I was going to put a motor in my wife's car, lol. To tune this thing, you either need a standalone or a guy to program a chip (or run the stock JDM ECU in my case - for now), whereas running the OBD-II WRX electrical would let me use an off the shelf tuning solution.

How different are those Whiteline lateral links? I'm pretty sure they acquired Noltec at one point, thought Noltec's bushings were always different. I'm not saying the links are the same, just wondering how similar they are.

Yeah I shoulda done this a long time ago. It's too bad I have a wagon tho! I think the height difference is just because the foam in the RS seats is just so much stiffer and holds it's shape better, oh and it's not 15 years old either! lol, I would just sink into my stock seats.

They very very similar but the whiteline ones almost feel a little thicker, and of course they're new too which helps. And yes, the bushings are very different. Now i need to upgrade the bushings in my trailing arms. Too bad I can't take the arms off my junk car and clean them up, I still need it to roll so I can get rid of it. Well, replaced my knock and crack sensors today without any change in the idle and boost problem. However, I did definitely notice what sounds to be a vacuum leak somewhere near my intake manifold. Sort of an echo-ish air flow sound when I unplug my BOV (which should normally have the engine struggling to run.) So, I'm going to pull all my upper motor apart tomorrow to (hopefully) find where the leak is coming from.

Either it wasn't tightened properly when made, or it got pulled on too hard while the shaft was out of the car and floating around between cars. I couldn't even tell anything was wrong until I took the shaft out and water started pouring out of there (right into my lap of course) when it got tipped up. But at least the clicking and tapping is gone now.

Started the brake repair today, and found out none of the stores carry the rebuild kit. Great. So i have to wait to finish it, but at least ill get new rotors now as well.

Left the car on jackstands in garage, windows down to air it out, swapped in a set of LEDs for the brake lights and vacced the car out. Decided the garage needed a clean out so i did that too.

Tried to put the motor in, ran out of time as we went to a hockey game. When I came back I found that I put the throwout bearing in backwards. HMM, I wonder if that's why the motor didn't go flush? (turbo tranny) :violent1:

Yea, the pull style clutch will get you if you've never dealt with one before heh. They are really easy to put together though. Getting them apart is however annoying with having to pull the pin and the fork before removing the engine heh.

Pulled the 97' LGT project car out of storage( massive snowbank next the the yard)

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/03/743b030c-1.jpg

Cleaned it off, cleaned it's garage spot, put her inside and started taking the dented fenders off All the stuff in the engine bay I won't need.

Plan is EG33, Wrx tranny setup, LINK standalone, agxs or sti take offs (currently sitting on sti stuff, have agxs in the garage) swap to black interior, fix the body and paint it pure white. I'll start a build thread when I start doing more.

Wrx tranny + torque from the EG33...ugh

I would go with something with a shorter final drive, like from an RS, or even stick with what you have right now (4.11 or 4.44 FD). Less strain on the gears that way. Now if you get a trans from a JDM GC wrx or sti (or even one of those RA models), that would be marginally better

I'm running what I have, I didn't buy anything specifically for this project, it's all stuff I've just acquired over the last few years. I don't really think it matters, all 5mt Subaru trannies are weak, all can be broken by low horse power stock motors, theres no way around it. The investment in a 6mt isn't worth it to me, so if I shatter the Wrx tranny, I'll put my spare 4.11 tranny in (spare because 2nd doesn't have much syncro left) and see what I think then.

Doing a timing belt and cam seals on a friend's 2005 Legacy GT with him. It's going self-esteem robbingly terrible. Stripped hex holes on cam bolts, cam jumped some teeth trying to loosen it. Might have stubbornly bent valves trying to force the engine to rotate a bit not knowing better.

Navi271

Dang that sounds terrible! Just did cam seals today, was also going to do the front main crank seal too but didn't have the right tool to get it out so just cam seals, belts, coolant flush, and oil change. The car is now happy! Sounds like mine went WAY better than yours, but I think my car is a lot easier to work on/with.

I heart non interference engines!

I also might lower my car again... I'm so confused! idk...

well last week my drivers side automatic seat belt got stuck in the door closed position... So I hauled the trim off around the interior and switched out the auto seat belt with an older one I have and I know works.
When I installed the new seat belt it was in the door open position.
I hooked everything up and shut the door and it came to the normal door closed position.
Opened the door............and.......... it wouldn't release again...
So I spent quite a bit of time looking under the dash for a busted or corroded wire.. found nothing...
Decided I would take the whole door off and replace it with a spare I have and BAM. the seat belt worked!!

Brought the stock door inside and looked around and found this!
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/190205_10150215880029762_654794761_9222221_4041259_n.jpg

I cleaned up the ends of the wire soldered it back together wrapped it in elect. tape then wrapped the whole bundle of wires in waterproof plumbers tape, then put a wireloom over that!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/200513_10150215883369762_654794761_9222229_7403838_n.jpg

Weird problem with my HVAC today. The lights under the air position switches and it was stuck blowing out the top vents. I assume it's something electrical, anyone have the issue? It fixed itself before I got home but I expect it to happen again.

The project of my friend's 2005 Legacy GT is going poorly. We just got everything together and it won't crank over. Seems mechanically constrained, like all the valves are closed. something with the crank or cam positions I'm sure, but I have no idea really. Ffffffuuuuuuuu. I directly wired from stock L horn to L Hella Horn and grounded it and then R stock horn to R Hella Horn

We were changing the timing belt and the cam seals, and removing the cams is very difficult since they require a 10mm hex key and are wicked tight. We rounded one and the cams got out of alignment during that, the force required to break a couple of the bolts free caused cams to skip (the old timing belt was left on while removing the cams). People on the Legacy GT forums and local Subaru dealer said the cams are a pain and requite cutting the heads of the bolts half the time. During this the misalignment of the cams caused valve collision on the DOHC.

Wow... it has been a while since I have posted but I did enough to my car that I thought I would share.

Last weekend I finally wired up my JDM side markers (alternating flashes). I also hooked up my city lights in my projectors and switched the blue bulbs out for amber bulbs.

I also installed a new set of H1 and H3 Osram Nightbreaker lightbulbs... which I am very satisfied with. Paid like $58 for all four bulbs at motivemods.com.

Then I installed my subaru OEM dual outlets that replace my ash tray. Finally no more having to juggle phone chargers with radar detector. I bought this almost 9 months ago... it was probably the last one in North America so I figured I better actually install it instead of just letting it sit around.

While I was in my dash, I swapped my CD player with the empty storage cubby and tapped into the back of my headunit to provide me with an AUX hookup for my android phone (Now I can rock Pandora on roadtrips).

Now all I need is woodgrain radio bezel and woodgrain HVAC bezel and I think I will be set for a while.

I didnt do this recently but I also went on a Yakima rack binge and sourced both the OEM subaru ski rack attachment (yes it says "Subaru" on it in place of Yakima) as well as the OEM bicycle racks (two of them).

I am running out of things to do to my car!!!! Anybody have any other ideas? The car just rolled 225,000 miles so anything else that I would be doing would be strictly for appearance/convenience/comfort.

Anywho, made some foglight hole blanks or my OB bumper to block off the huge gaping holes I had there. Looks nice. Should help with gas mileage and keeping water out of my snorkus-less intake.
Speaking of which, I think either the snorkus gets modded and put back in, or I'm going to figure out a snorkel of sorts to keep my air filter dry when puddle jumping.

Last night I tired of having a wobbly wheel. Tore into the suspension and installed new ball joints and tie rod asemblies. I love it when the guy at the parts counter asks if it's the upper or lower ball joint...Piece of cake. Used Flennor german suspension parts. Seem to be of quality. Old ones were LOOSE, man. Tired parts make cars unsafe. Potholes are fat jerks! Can't wait to throw on the new springs and struts. I think my shackles are sloppy on the front leaf springs, too. Got it aligned, and was only off two or three threads on the passenger wheel. I try like a savant.

I missed the oportunity of my life, :smt021 someone was selling a 2000 legacy GT with 200,000 miles for $1,000 two hours from me. I emailed them as soon as I saw the ad (less than a day after it was posted) and it was already sold :smt022 I'm still kicking my self in the butt for not checking craigslist before I went to bed last night.

Traded my rotas for 02 wrx's, A/S's and 250 cash. now it comes down to getting tall tires and OB suspension or dropping it on my H&R's and going rwd.

If i drop it i'll be getting 205/50/16 falken ZE-912's

I have OB stuff and the same tyres in a 215/50/16 size I had on my 98' GT with H&R springs, and my old outback rims and tyres. you want?

Spent a good 30 minutes or so removing the black paint off my wood trim....Never painting that again! Much less removing it. And cleaned the car out. Anyone got any ideas for stains and how to remove them? And fixed the WRX>BH momo wheel mystery. Thats off my check list. :D
