Removed my rust hitch, saving 34 lbs, plus 2.4 lbs of rust that came off it during removal = 36.4 lbs weight saved. @_@

I did that to my car back in june I think it was.. Oh man what a great feeling that was!

Anyways..

Replaced the slave cylinder and put a speed bleeder on it

old fluid that came out was very dirty..

I wouldn't think this would be a great idea because you have a source of all the heat concentrated at the bottom. This may cause the bottom to get too hot, possibility melt before the top gets warm enough. The thing that makes an oven a good choice for this is the heat is pretty evenly spread with no one concentrated source. But I know what you mean, I did it now because my mom is gone for the week and I son't think she would be too happy if she saw me baking my headlights in her oven. LOL

So far as I've come across, any suby with an EJ or EG motor uses the M10x1.25 exhaust studs. Possibly all subys, but I havent dealt with anything other than EJ or EG motors. But yes, a legacy from 1991-2011 will use that exhaust stud. Subaru used M10x1.25 for A LOT of bolts on these cars. It has been one of the most useful heli-coil size that I have found living in new england.

how does it sound?

WIth the P123 head unit, I find it to work best at volume to 10-15 and then 20-25. Its more of supplemental bass. It allows you to take some of the bass away from your speakers to help increase there life. It still adds some vibe. Almost as if you turned your head unit up to +3 bass or so.

My experience with the P123 vs my old P133 (that stopped recognizing it was a CD player) is that the bass is a lot higher in the older model. I use to keep my settings at Bass -1 with the P133. Now with this P123 unit, I was mostly at -2 and since the subwoofer install, -4.

http://www.fillernecksupply.com  was $135 or so shipped and has an unneeded evap pipe included. i also recommend removing the lower portion of the plastic guard so you dont have road debris build up again to cause the same rust issues. its really a simple procedure, but those stupid hoses will put up a fight.....and their backwards clamps.....

^^ yeah, I never felt like dealing with it so on my old BD I had the dealer do it. On my wagon I took the plastic guard off immediately, sanded the pipe and sprayed it with rustoleum flat black paint, then sprayed it again with rubber undercoating.

I'd first pull the steering wheel center and see if there are any loose wires in there. Possibly something grounding out. Does the horn work? If you plan on playing with those wires inside the steering wheel at all, I would HIGHLY recommend disconnecting the negative battery terminal beforehand. :)

Someone said to check the seat belt wires also. It's funny, it goes on one trip, then off another. I've changed out airbags before so I'm not too scared about it, never pulled an airbag with the batt hooked up, thats just asking for trouble. I just dont get how it can work, then not and the bags not go off with the short.

I'll play with it tomorrow when I have time. Dead91silvia

Just because he had his hands on Skylines doesn't mean he's not an idiot.

This is true, however he's been building and racing cars for 30 years. He's also not the only person I have heard this from. I have heard this from a lot of other race guys and also tech's. If you change your oil every 3K, what filter you use is not gonna mater so much.

Now if you have some crazy built $15,000 motor, then yeah, I can see getting a K&N oil filter, but when you toss the every 3K from even a stock turbo motor, its just a waste spending more the 3-5 bucks for a filter. Spending $8 for a K&N (or what ever brand), thats up to you, I did it 2 times and the only cool thing about them is the welded nut on the end...

Huffer
09-14-2011, 03:18 PM
Here's the deal - a crappy built motor with poorly machined parts is going to produce a lot more microscopic wear than a really well engineered motor with proper tolerances. Honda's engines are well reputed in this regard, how many Hondas go 10,000 miles between oil changes and still run to 250k+ miles? Yep...

But if you're changing your oil frequently enough, you can use the cheap filters because the OIL is what the shavings and other particles is suspended in. This is why you change your filter AND your oil. Not just your filter alone.

There's always exceptions when dealing with cars, but fresh fluids is always a rule you shouldn't break.

Installed the Supertones yesterday on the Ladies WRX wagon... took my time and heatshrinked all connections, hid all wiring from view and re-did the positive/negative terminal auxiliary wiring.

Also started to clean up the power folding/heated JDM mirrors that I have had for about 4 months now. The guy I bought them from had them taped together with clear scotch tape... which was a PAIN in the ass to get off. It must have been on there for about 2 or 3 years because they left sunfaded marks when they were removed. Just need to finish prepping them and then I am going to try to rattlecan them myself with paint matched spray paint from a local paint shop.

Make sure you use adhesion promoter! It's a must if your going to paint the plastic where the fogs are. If not, your paint will start to flake off in months...

Thats gonna look good though! And you got a steal on that if it was it good shape. :smt023

Adhesion promoter then sand-able primer or just straight to color? I've always wondered the correct way to layer it to get the best stick I could

Adhesion promoter then sand-able primer or just straight to color? I've always wondered the correct way to layer it to get the best stick I could

-prep/clean with wax and grease remover
-use adhesion promoter as they specify
-Use high build primer (if you are wanting to eliminate texture) and sand accordingly. If you are just wanting to cover with color, then just prime, let dry and scuff for sealer...

Painting
-Sealer
-Base coat
-clear...

Doing it right can cost a bit. I used to do it all the time when I was working for a shop, but I didnt have to pay for it.... haha...

Hope that helps... It really is way more in depth then that, but thats the basics...

r3v_v3ng3
09-22-2011, 06:23 AM
^ yeah its really more in depth.

If its plastic, use flexible primer

If its brand new(meaning no paint on the urethane bumper/skirt/lip), I never have any problem not using flex primer. I apply plastic adhesion promoter, two coats of sealer and base/clear. Pretty much all the topcoat have a flex agent on them.

If its painted already, you don't need to put adhesion promoter if your going to use seal the part(s) since the sealer also acts as an adhesion promoter.

Also if the bumper has stress/spider mark, It will bleed through no matter how many coats of paint you use. It won't go away but you might be able to get lucky and get rid of the stress/spider mark by stripping the part to bare plastic and then prep/paint the part like a new plastic except this time I would put a couple of coats of flex primer after the adhesion promoter since the paint stripper reacted with the plastic

Ahhh... Theres alot of different procedure on painting plastic parts (there's different plastic that requires different way to prep them)

r3v_v3ng3
09-22-2011, 06:26 AM
btw. I use spray gun to apply the paint except for the adhesion promoter which comes in a spray can. Still trying to find extra money to buy me an iwata pain gun

Dead91silvia
09-22-2011, 11:36 AM
Yeah, thats about it... The adhesion promoter I have used is in mix and spray form. If the bumper you got was a Gold Limited bumper, your set! but if it has blcak plastic like 95% of the OB bumpers, you need to do this..

I actually have never used a flexing agent in the primer, or the paint. If the base/clear is sprayed light enough, it has natural flex. Primer expands and contracts all the time. You can see it is bad or rushed body work. More so if the body work was not finished out right.

Just my 2 cents, take it to a body shop and have it butt matched to your car. It might cost you a few bucks, but if you have a good shop do it the right way, the paint will last just like the rest of the car. Should cost $200-400 to have it done the right way with good stuff.

Just a pint of paint for the last car I painted (White 2006 Honda Accord) was $79 for PPG DBC base coat. That does not include my sealer, clear, reducer, and lacquer thinner for cleaning. Not trying to scar you, just put it in perspective...

I've used the lph-400 at school and now I used my friends lph400 extreme (orange cap 1.3) and shoots really good base and clear also comes out good. I want to get the supernova hybrid though so I can have my one.

I actually shot a whole car with the hvlp harbor freight gun and it came out good. The paint was dupont hot hues lol

Yea really that is it, but the tranny shifts fine. Just a little slip between 2nd and third if you go hard on it. I will put the interior together with painted trim pieces so interior will be complete. I will even rebuff the car for the buyer. The rear brakes need to be done, but have the Wrx caliper sandblasted and will paint. Car runs great now, but needs more to handle the power I want to put out. I can even include a 06 Wrx 5 speed tranny to rebuild. I will post details in a minute.

Back to the dealer today. CEL P0026

2 OSV valves busted,
Oil leak behind timing belt cover due to pressure fluctuation because of the valves,
2.5L of oil missing,
Broken splash guard due to missing clips from last service,
2 broken subframe bolts

Luckly i'm at 104456 km and my warranty for the motor group has been extended to 105000km so they'll be changing all this under warranty. Still supprised at how much stuff was changed under warranty in my last 2 services. Is it that common for a 2.5i ? From reading around I understand it wasn't their best motor... but this bad?

So losing my beast for a minimum of a full day next week to repair all this, but at least I'll have it back up and running properly. :)

I dont think they realise how thin the metal is on our cars...They said they didnt do it, but it wasnt there when I got there, i walk around my car every time Im about to drive to see if theres any damages from surrounding cars. At any rate, I just told the guy to have a nice day, shook his hand. (Car ride home several curse words came out of anger however) and left. Im not taking it further, I dont have the time or sanity to deal with back and forth "We didnt do it". I cant proove they did, but it wasnt there when I dropped it off, and it was there when I picked it up. They may have leaned against it or pushed on it trying to get up or sit down, either way whatever happened shouldnt have since its a customers car.....so yea If anything just warn shops that the metal is paper thin.......shit happens. Life goes on...I will get the dent removed, or replaced eventually.

Good God! That is NOT just a lean type of dent. Something had to put significant weight on that fender to get it to bend that much. Unless there is a 500+ lb man working there that fell from several feet onto the fender, I would say that's from poor equipment handling... They dropped something on it. Crock of sh**!
