Do your upgraded squirters spray way lower? Mine do, I'd say lower than mid height on the windshield where as the ones in our OBS seem setup to account t for spray when driving, I.e. they spray on the upper half when not moving.
Nah, mine are at the perfect height. Some people have to shim them, but mine were spot on.

It frustrates me that the double DIN units take up so much space and they have even poorer resolution the screens that single DIN units (the same information in twice the space) until you step up to some ridiculously expensive multimedia machine that's touchscreen only. I'd have one in a second if I could get those controls with a much better screen built in.

Fixed the switches in my door jambs on the passenger side, so now the lights turn on when the doors are opened. A small thing, but it bugged me. If I get a break from headlight work this weekend, I'll investigate why my power mirrors aren't adjusting. Isn't the switch or the mirrors, so it's probably a fuse or bad wiring somewhere.

I haven't been feeling working on the car much this week. It sucks. I did order a shift knob and my fiancee is going to help me out with sewing up a new shift boot (I found a really easy way to do it...might do a DIY). Maybe that will give me some more motivation. The transmission is unbolted from the motor and I just need to back the crossmemember bolts out and lower it down. Then, hopefully I can get everything swapped in a day or so.

I need to build a new exhaust as well...the prior owner's welds can't even be called poor. I thought my exhaust leak was a bad gasket, but there is actually a half inch of one joint that isn't even welded at all.

Yeah, I just replaced it a few months ago and it had the old header welded to it, so it was a y-pipe. They made it into a j-style one so I didn't have to change it again and so it would work with the header.

Nice. I sorta did the same thing. A few days ago, I took the wagon up to the mountains, drove it on 8 miles of unimproved road and then gave it absolute hell on the Tail of the Dragon. That same evening, the radiator busted. I guess 218k miles of really hard use finally let go.

Replaced it yesterday and so far so good.

Did my Timing belt and all of the ancillaries. Changed out my radiator since the car was running warm under load and at speed. When I pulled the old radiator out (seems it was an aftermarket copper unit), the fins were disintegrating in my hand. Finally I changed out my old gearbox oil. It looks like the POs never changed it and it was a milky colour. Esta no bueno!!

It is much happier now

I had to change my rear rotors and pads since the Jiffy Lube that did my inspection in PA failed me because they were out of spec. The pads were a little low, but the rotors were well within spec. They just thought I was some jackass who would pay them $600 to change it all out. Then they stripped two of my lugs in the front and added that to the failure. That will be the LAST time I get my inspection done at a Jiffy Lube.

Finally got my rear end links made with pressed in solid WhiteLine bushings unlike KB cut 2 halves, installed together with Cusco rear subframe bar. Took more time to install bar on passenger side since it had more junk to remove and access to remove sway bar mount bolts almost NONE. But the end result is real, not placebo. Rear end is tight, no rolls, no sway, and sticks like glue at 60 MPH curve in back road testing, super happy with them. Prototype round and square one, prefer squared back one.

Got the part from Amazon for $15, made in Italy. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CS ... UTF8&psc=1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CSOIEY/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
It works fine after installed.

Here are the symptoms with bad temp sensor:

- Difficult to start, ECU received extreme low temp from coolant sensor -40C so it flooded the engine with fuel.
- Once engine started, my Torque app coolant temp fluctuated from 33C to -40C.
- ECU is confused, turned on the radiator fan thought engine is overheated.
- Poor MPG

Plugs & wires @ 105K.('07 Legacy sedan 2.5i) PO had the timing belt replaced @ 101K. Why he'd neglect the plugs is beyond me. I'll spend the rest of the summer catching up on fluid changes & general maintenance. It was a pleasant way to spend an evening in the garage and the miss is gone.

Not sure what model it is, or what it was intended for initially, (it's bottomed out fairly often, and the part number plate's scuffed up, obscuring a few numbers,) but it's obviously been modified already to fit the '02 Outback Sport it came off of.

Question for the more knowledgeable. My 09 has had a warped right front rotor since I bought it. The rotors appear to be upgraded over stock. I am thinking about having my friend's shop machine the fronts. Would it be better to do that or wait till the pads need to be changed and change the rotors then too?

Wiscon_Mark
07-10-2014, 10:20 AM
You could always have them try to turn the rotors first. If they warp again, just replace them & the pads at the same time.

Hell yes!

The last time I was in Knoxville was during Memorial day. When I left back to Miami, I had a general understanding that my parents would start my Outback and run it every so often so it wouldn't just rot. Well, guess what staying completely dormant for almost two months?

My mom said to me on the pone a few weeks ago she tried to start it but it just clicked like the battery was dead. I asked if my dad, the mechanical person of the duo, could try to jump it off and get it running and she said she'd ask him. Apparently, that never happened. So about an hour ago after just flying in to visit, I went out to investigate. Opened the door, unlocked the locks, "schick!!!," said the locks as if there was plenty of power. Turned the key to on, "beep beep," no dimness to the lights. Check the oil - it's oddly at a decent level. Check the coolant - good. Turn the key, "BRUUAAAAMMMMmm........"

Shit.

Turn the key again and it's starter city. I wack the fuse box, reset the ECU and listen for the fuel pump (wacking the fuel pump cover as if I was the Fonz) and then try again. The starter goes and goes and while gently pumping the throttle I hear a bit of spit, a sputter, a cough and burble and then, a rumble. He woke up!

Fuel cleaner, fresh gas, readjusting the plug wires and a little Italian tune up and it's a car again instead of a lawn ornament. I don't know what it is about this car but it just does something to my spirit. It really is what a Subaru is all about.

Carry on guys.

I promise my wife I will add a factory remote starter to the Subi before winter. I'm not sure that defrost will work *quite* as well without the compressor running, but it's not essential just to put air on the windshield.

^ AC with defrost acts to de-humidfy, which is why in some newer cars, when you switch it to defrost, the AC light comes on.
temp difference b/t out and in creates condensation with heat, foggy glass w/o de-humidification, or just not as efficient as with it. .

+1. Compressor runs in front windscreen defrost. It works to condition the air. Which is moisture free.

I got the front passenger brake hose replaced. Along with the rear passenger caliper hose. The mid hose, was a bit of a problem. I broke my 10 mm flare-nut wrench. :'( the forward end broke free OK. The hose clips don't do anything to hold the fitting while you try to break 10 years of torque, corrosion, snow-belt salt and grit. I used penitrating oil like the others. I managed to remove the mounting and grab the flat sides of the fitting with a 17 mm open-end.

Did an accel neon coil pack and grimspeed lw pulley. Car now bucks frequently. I think it might be the connections I soldered to join the subaru harness to neon coilpack harness.

Superu, the radio lights are soldered to the front face's board, you can find replacements at pretty much any electronics store. As for the hvac lights there is a diy either here or on lgt.com that has the bulb type and where to get them, if I remember correctly though they're the same as the bulbs in the cruise and fog light buttons.

Thanks, i'll try to dig up the DIY. I got some bulbs from radio shack for the heated seat illumination (RS PN 272-1092 i think) nd the hazard switch illumination bulb is that but the hvac are a scosh larger.

So, for replacing radio illumination, its cracking open the case and getting into the circuit board there, otherwise the other illumination is micro-bulb replacement (rewiring the bulb into the socket)..? That sounds easy enough.

SeaFoamed this morning. 1 can (i.e. 1 pint) in fuel tank 1/2 can in crank case and the other half into intake via PCV.

I set a quick grip clamp on the throttle to rev it around 2K during the intake pouring.

Got the car re-registered 3 days before the inspection died, and now need to get it inspected, after i swap the winter tires on it...

after driving around in the STi and then switching back to the legacy there are two thing that desperately need attention: seating position with the WRX seats needs lowered, and the brakes, the legacy's are sooo spongy and don't have any bite, to a very scary degree. I'm not 100% on the safety of the brakes honestly

Whats up everyone, new to the forum. So just saw this post today but about 3 or 4 days ago replaced the radiator, radiator cap & hoses unfortunately due to a overheating issue (that sucked but more of a reason to upgrade parts eventually needed). Also did a oil change at that time.
Today put a new freshener on & fueled up the girl.

A few weeks ago, I lost the key to the Tribeca's wheel locks. No idea how it happened - I used the key when I was installing mudflaps. I remember putting my tools away, but no idea what I did with the key. After tearing apart the Tribeca and the garage, I came up with nothing. I even searched my Forester (why it would be there, I have no idea, but I was desparate).

So I decided to order a new set of wheel locks. That key will work, right? Subaru wouldn't have a bunch of different keys for the same part#, right? Wrong. The set I got was slightly different and didn't work. Now I'm getting really panicky, I've got winter tires on order and I have no way of getting the wheels off, short of driving 45 minutes to the Subaru dealership where they'll probably bend me over just to loosen 4 lug nuts.

I did a little Googling and I came up with this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJUUyjJqk5A

BTW- Eric the Car Guy is a good video series - he does some videos on an old Legacy wagon that I found extremely helpful when I was in a jam on my old Outback.

I used a 3/4" (3/8 drive) Kobalt regular socket from my set, hammered it on and it worked! Unlike in the video, the wheel locks actually did get scored on the outside from the socket and the socket is still intact (score one for Kobalt quality).

I am probably never going to put wheel locks on any vehicle again. Too much trouble.

We got lucky. When my brother bought his 05 STI he got wheel locks. Our 00 Outback had them too. Magically both sets used the same key. We did end up losing the key that came with the Outback shortly after my brother moved. Next time he came home the wheel locks on the Outback where swapped out for regular lug nuts.

Today, I painted some parts for my tow hook project. Painted both the cover to match-ish and the hook now has a color.

Also adjust my mud flaps so they are straight. The front 2 are not an issue but the back to were pointed in because when installing them, its easier to jack the car up and remove the wheel.
