Installed an ERZ hiflow crosspipe to finally match my pnp exhaust manifolds (hits boost slightly sooner, better off-boost pull), fixed an exhaust leak that that install made ugh.
Washed and waxed the car.

Is the bulb exploding, or just burning out?
The glass is still intact. But it gets really hot and then fails. There are what look like burn marks on the inside of the glass.

That's a nice diff protector, easy and good access to drain plugs. Mine only has holes/ports. . . . provides a good opportunity for spillage, yours looks more functionally open.
I built the new axle back with the Flowmaster40 I picked up and a 3" U+J bend from Amazon.com

It's much quieter than the indivia exhaust I did have. It might be too quiet...
I have no idea what brand it is, came in the car. It makes it really annoying to get a 3" exhaust past there

It had tool marks in the delrin from when it was cut on a lathe, so I sanded it 1000/1500/2000 and then polished it by hand.

Grabbed some GT fogs from the yard today, and am pre-heating the oven as I type. Stupidity shall likely ensue as the wife is already looking at me funny, while surveying the fogs on a cookie sheet.
I told her she doesn't use it anyways. That went over like a fart in church.

Went out to properly diagnose my gear/diff problems. It turns out transaxles do not work at an optimum level when they are 3 quarts of oil low.
As of now, it seems to be okay. All gears work with no noise and the shifter, even though mechanically damaged, engages each gear with no grinds. I just have a leaky transmission. Great. Another leak to add to my list. This car...
Better a leaky trans than a broken trans.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2013/11/BD2520instument2520clusterpngglUS-1.jpg
unused: FWD, AT oil temp, Height Hi, ABS, TCS and 4 other blank spots in the bottom bank, and above the the center bank unused TCS with a dotted circle.
TCS and ABS were options in the FWD model, similarly optional was the automatic transmission.
I have yet to identify the "height hi" meaning. AFAIK, there hasn't been adjustable ride suspension for a while. . . :smt017
ALSO, I took a cruise in Moab...
From 191 @ 313 up [past then turning around and back ;] to Dubinky Well rd to Spring Canyon Bottom down to the green river (similar to but shorter than mineral bottom rd). Then an additional leg goes on Dubinky well rd to Bartlett wash rd to 191.

On the rare occasions I let the significant other drive the car, I watch her leave just to I can hear the car from another perspective. I know the BH has a fairly good sound deadener setup, because I hear the valve tick more prominently from outside the car. Scary, but everything measures up when inspected. Past few weeks I was thinking that I was rice-ing my car out slowly but surely. Also had some doubts about how it sounds. At work we have bay windows and my gf was coming back with some bfast (same day I heard the axles pop) and I heard a subi o.0 was my reaction. I looked and saw that it was my car. I fell in love with my car again. Idk why I had my doubts but the way the sun was hitting the car and the way it moved and sounded was just pure bliss. Replaced my plug wires to cure a little stutter I've been having when pressing the pedal down hard. Had the same problem in my last car, only far worse. New plug wires fixed it on the other car, so I guessed I'd try it on this one. Actually just reused the ones from the old car, they had less than 3k miles on them. And it worked. Free fixes are good fixes. Also replaced the upper radiator hose. Not sure if it's the reason I've been losing coolant, but it's worth a shot.

Well I had the welded diff in it. That lasted like a month. Lol.
I put the lame 3.0L LSD back in it and it's doing ok.

And your tranny should have the stubs that stay in the tranny.

Lol. The engine might find it's way into my lifted car. The problem with having it in the 99 is the tranny codes I can't get to go away. So when emission time comes I won't be able to get it to pass.
If I use it in my 91 it won't be an issue since they only do tail pipe emissions.

For the 95, just a driver's visor and the cruise harness and about 12"=14" of wires. I'm relocating the cruise switch to the left side...
I have other bits to look for but from other models and years.
I've got a RARE junk yarding weekend coming up so stand by on those parts okay?

Looked at an '04 Legacy wagon (It's an L, with a 5mt, and cloth interior) that a friend of mine is selling. I want it, but there's a laundry list of things that are wrong with it. Axles, Control arm, some fuel issue, not to mention the body looks like it's been worked over by a pack of angry Dwarven miners. (Yes, I play DnD, shuttup) It was his mother's before it was his, and she drove like she stole it. He's been more gentile to it, but he delivers pizza in it. It's got about 200K on the clock.
But, he's asking only $300 of me for it, and it's got no body rot, and the head gaskets have been done.

$300? Damn. I'd part it out and keep the flakes if it were me.
Tonight I added an aux jack to my ashtray so the aux cable coming off my eclipse deck doesn't get worn from use. Last night I took my car to a buddy's shop so I wouldn't have to change my oil on a snowy gravel driveway, swapped over a rear o2 sensor from his 96 L parts car and called dibs on the folding mirrors off it.
See, that's my first thought... But, then again, we get rust here about as bad as you do in Wisconsin. And this car has none... Plus, I'm discovering I really don't like parting out a car.

I'd say buy it, if it costs less than two grand to fix then your ahead of the game (I bought a 01' legacy wagon with 182k for 3 grand in Jan., so 300 for a third gen. is a steal). If anything find another third gen that needs a motor and has a decent body and swap the motor and snowflakes in it.

Well I ordered the rest of the led's to finish off my interior lighting, been missing the t3's for the hvac unit.
Also changed the plugs, which were freakin awful looking, in the process two of the ends ripped out. Luckily advance had some in stock, anybody else realize that auto-lite professional grade were Subaru wires? I didn't until today, plug end of the boots had the fuji logo on them just like the stockers did. No pictures because lazy...

My car hit 171k. I swapped out summer wheels for winter wheels, and I had to make sure the new brake lines would clear the smaller diameter wheels. They barely cleared so a little adjustment was needed for peace of mind.
Oil was next, as well as checking all the other fluids. I found that the lower radiator hose still leaks barely where it connects to the water pump coupler. One of the hoses for the transmission cooler was barely leaking as well. I readjusted and tightened up those connections. When I ran the car to make sure there were no more initial leaks I found my EGR tube is leaking where it connects to the intake manifold. Last time we took out the engine the threads got trashed. For now JB weld seals it, and works for about a year or so until it can't handle the heat, cracks, and breaks off. I'll do that next weekend.
I also replaced the front and rear windshield wipers.
T'was a good weekend!

You do what you have to when your cats decide to snap off, collapse, clog, etc. My car has a track pipe because my wallet isn't full of gold ingots, and purchasing new cats or a hfc would have meant not paying my bills at the time. I like sleeping in a bed in a nice warm apartment, and eating food is pretty nice too. It'll get a HFC when I can afford it, but it isn't my highest priority and I won't be losing any sleep over it.
In other news, I has new decals. I've been waiting for these to show up since August.

Sold my shift knob to a local guy with a 98 GT, and his car wouldn't run when it was time to head out. I stuck my nose in his coolant overflow, and it reeked of exhaust gasses... popped off the rad cap, no green to be seen and the inside had a nice black sooty oily film. Went from running and driving fine to oil in the coolant, combustion gasses in the coolant, barely running. It barely limped half a mile to his house with the misfires, I was almost ready to bust out my tow strap. It's at another legacy dude's house now, I went down to hang out while he pulled the engine and tore it down. He said it took several tries to get it to run long enough to roll it off the trailer into the garage.

Installed the factory sub that I got from WESTcoast! Damn it sounds good for such a lil speaker!

detail on the factory sub wiring? is it pretty plu-n-play into a non-factory sub'd rig? does youe head unit control a sub or does it just go withthe base controls on the head unit?
I got a factory sub and some of its harness yarding last week and have thoughts but little time to research it. I'm hoping I can pretty well just mount it and wire it in? I didn't get the wiring ALL the way to the head unit, but a fair chunk from under the center console. . .

(those of you who have tried this know its a waste of money) nobody carries the correct part. so i bought a spectre box filter and thought... hmm this doesnt look quite big enough to be honest... i pull it out and its like 6 inches short of being a remotely close fit... so after i cashed out and got an oem replacement filter wide open throttle sounds pretty badass with just a standard filter... idk what i did differently but i like the way it pulls. and in the mean time i sprayed carb cleaner in the pcv valve to get more use outta it ran some seafoam through the little tyke. and its running alot smoother. still having idle issues.. but i doubt its the sesnor so next venture is to fien the gasket between the flange and the sensor woo! :smt026

I used the following info, found at http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=749402 Post #4 & editted it down to answer your questions:
Subwoofer (powered, under-seat style)
The harness for this style subwoofer is a "T" -- it connects between the car's radio harness and the stock radio's 14-pin speaker/power connector. The radio gets all 14 wires like before, but the harness also taps two of the speaker outputs (in parallel). It sends those outputs plus ground and +12volt power down the long leg of the "T" to the sub.
From the same post I had to use the pin out, since mine was missing the 2 stereo end plugs. I just tapped it into my conversion harness.
The pins are numbered like this (viewing the connector on the subwoofer, or the wires exiting the back of the T-harness' subwoofer plug):
3 ### 2 1
8 7 6 5 4
The pin-out is as follows:
Pin Function OEM sub harness wire color
1 Right Rear + White/Brown
2 Left Rear + Violet/Brown
3 Ground (NC)
4 Right Rear - Black/Brown
5 Left Rear - Orange/Brown
6 +12V remote on (NC)
7 +12V constant Red/Brown
8 Ground Gray/Brown
NC = No connection — the factory harness has no wire at this pin position
Recent Legacies (and probably other models) have slightly different wire colors, but the pin-out has stayed the same.
If you need any of the factory style plugs, this guy is an awesome source!

Something I didnt expect, our factory door speaker have no tweeters. The sub makes a bit too much bass in the rear without having tweets. Might not be an issue since the sedans have the deck speakers. Also not a worry once you've installed 2way or 3way speakers, which is on my todo list!

good beta.
I started to put aftermarket 2-way door speakers in a gen 1 impreza but ran into depth issues (retaining the factory speaker backing plate). I assume legacy deck and doors may be easier since its a bigger car and maybe more room, OR it maight be like lots of subaru projects, totally interchangable. ;)

I dont see how it could be, the Scion has significantly different connectors for its stereo.
I do not believe that any non-Subaru (except for the SAAB 9-2X, which we all know to be a Subaru underneath) has the same radio connector.

I got a reverse harness for subaru and factory harness for back of scion radio. Both from eBay about $5 each shipped from China. Both harnesses had the wires labeled, so I connected them together very easily. I took the mounting bracket from Subaru and put it on scion radio. After trimming radio surround it worked well. Most expensive part was scion aux cable, about $25 eBay.

if you find one for cheap, scion has some pretty nice factory units. the models just before and just after the one i used have integrated ipod controls. it would have been nice to have that feature, but this is the one that was laying in the garage so it will do. if you look for the model the scion #t1807 is the one i used without ipod controls, just aux input. the t1806 and t1808 both are ipod compatible in case anyone else is thinking of doing this.

Hey guys it's been awhile since I've been on here.
So since my BE is in hibernation I been driving the wife's under-aprreciated BH. Boy does this car need some TLC lol.
So last week during a snow storm the exhaust fell off and I was dragging it kuz I was too lazy to web get under the car..... It finally fell at the cat. Which since falling off no more p0420 code lol definite way to fix that damn code.
Last night I installed brand new! Cats and rebuild the exhaust from scratch by using some old exhaust of of my scrap car BK. 2" all the way back. Sounds awesome. Also installed the front stabilizer bar I bought off Krenicki sometime early this year lol. And te end links with the bar. Car actually turns when I turn the wheel no and with a shit Ton less body roll.
Little by little I'm taking care of her. And I'll be heading to PA at 3am Xmas morning.
Merry Xmas my friends
Yeah, just wait 'till we get that '04. You'll have EVEN MOAR parts!

This happened a few days ago but I have yet to vent. Essentially, my Outback hit a snag that I suspected to happen a long time ago.
I've been having some transmission issues for a while now especially given that the transaxle is the oldest major component on my car excluding the body itself. It has a retrofit throwout bearing from the previous owner, pretty much zero shifter bushings and the u-joint shattered in the summer causing even more damage to the shifter. So, unbeknownst to me, the u-joint breakage damaged the output shaft seal causing a slow leak in gear oil. After a few months, I ran the car completely out of gear oil causing forward motion to pretty much not take place. In desperation, I refilled the transaxle, realized that it worked again, ignored some rotational noise present when the clutch was not engaged and went about my business driving the car every so often while I fiddled with my Jeep.
Last week, I was planning my vacation which would have me driving from Miami to Knoxville. I was going to take my freshly tired up Jeep but hit a snag caused by my flustered mental state - I forgot to renew my Jeep's tags. I have TN tags and getting a renewal in Florida is time consuming and I'm tired of dealing with cops so I made the decision to take the Subaru.
Along the trip, the cars is rocking out at 78 -85 mph no problem until I stop and realize the transmission is making some not to great noises. I had been stopping every so often to check the fluid levels but after about 500 miles, the fluid was falling faster and faster. Now, half way through my trip, I'm having to put in a quart of gear oil about every 100 miles or so. Balls.
I make it home and inspect the car myself thinking it might just be the drainplug leaking. Nope. The entire rear section of the transaxle is caked in gear oil. It's everywhere. I pull the driveshaft and fluid starts to pour out - okay, it's the rear seal. It's Christmas time and honestly, I didn't really want to wrench so my dad says take it to our family mechanic. We do so and the guy says he'll have it back in a day.
A few moments later, I get a call from said mechanic who says it's not just the seal but there is a 4 inch crack in the rear section of the transxle - the center diff. Apparently, a bearing broke causing the piece to fling around in the casing.
Guess who's getting a tranny swap! Balls.

^ ouch just went through the same thing, I broke teeth off 1st gear, so now the only original part of my car is the uni-body.
the replacement transmission has a little bearing noise so I'm *planning* to rebuild the original with a LSD, and spur gears

I want to touch up the bumps and nicks on these JDM wheels, does anyone happen to know the correct Subaru factory paint color code, and if any USDM wheels came from the factory in this same light bronze color? I also posted at http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index.ph ... ory-color/ (http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index.php/topic/132090-usa-owner-of-17-bronze-jdm-bg-gt-b-wheels-what-is-the-exact-factory-color/) (the JDM BG GT-B is fairly common in the UK). Not a terrible car but it reminds me of why I don't like FWD cars and drive by wire... oh, and with the seat adjusted all the way down and tilted back as far as I'm comfortable with, my head still hits the roof.
Axles and rack are in, welded up a crack in my exhaust under one of the rear hangers, started prepping to drop the rear subframe and swap tanks, and ran out of time. We'll be finishing it up today. I can't wait to have my awesome AWD rumblewagon back.

Happy New Year! Now that the Holiday is over, the auto paint supply shops are open again and I was able to bring along a GT-B wheel and compare some colors to see what matches.
Firstly, the gent who was working the shop counter was extremely helpful, and seemed quite knowledgeable about factory wheels in general, and even knew a little bit about refinishing them. Due to the semigloss sheen and the nature of the minor chipping, it was his opinion that the wheels were actually powdercoated at the factory, rather than painted with an automotive basecoat/clearcoat-type finish. He thought it would be difficult, though not impossible, to apply filler, primer, and a matching color base and clear to touch up the scrapes for a perfect repair, even if using my airbrush. We looked through the book of OEM automotive colors as I told him about my online research to see if there was a Subaru match. However, because of its powdercoated finish, he didn't think that there would be a manufacturer "paint code" per se for this wheel.
As far as Subaru colors go, color code 93H ("Champagne Gold Pearl/Sierra Gold Metallic") proved to be too light, but 89N ("Titanium Pearl/Warm Gray Opal Metallic"), common as the lower accent on most 2000-2004 Legacy Outbacks, was quite close, if a touch too dark. (Perhaps these wheels have the closest powdercoat version of the paint color Titanium Pearl). The finish of the wheel can be seen through the oval-shaped hole in the paint sample in the photos below:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/01/IMG_8885_zpsce7c618b-1.jpg (http://s1101.photobucket.com/user/camroncamera/media/IMG_8885_zpsce7c618b.jpg.html)
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/01/IMG_8888_zps8d69b84a-1.jpg (http://s1101.photobucket.com/user/camroncamera/media/IMG_8888_zps8d69b84a.jpg.html)
The clerk also found a Subaru accent and wheel color that was also quite close (I didn't catch a photo of that one). It didn't have a color name or Subaru paint code associated with it, but the manufacturer's number of the PPG-branded DBC finish was #905041. He explained how any color code could be slightly lightened or darkened to make for a better match. At any rate, an estimate for one-half pint of color and associated clear coat and other supplies turned out to be much more than my budget would allow for the time being. Fortunately, the shop also had a wide selection of aftermarket Duplicolor brand automotive spray paint cans, and as luck would have it, there was US domestic Chrysler color, code PKJ ("Light Almond Pearl") that was a very, very close match. I purchased a can and thanked the clerk for his friendly service. I knew that the Duplicolor brand also makes touch-up bottles of their automotive colors. However, the paint shop did not stock these bottles, so I stopped at national chain auto parts store on the way home to pick up Light Almond Pearl paint in a touch-up bottle.
After I arrived home I proceeded to prepare the most flaked and faded of the 4 plastic wheel center caps for primer and paint as a test. After a couple coats of primer had dried, I sprayed 3 light coats of the Light Almond Pearl for even coverage and allowed it to dry. Here it is now midnight, and though I haven't yet seen the freshly-painted cap compared to the wheel finish in true daylight, I am very impressed that I found an off-the-shelf color that is so incredibly close, at least under artificial light:

It does score up a bit easy though, I had to take the rough side of the ice scraper to get all the ice off my headlamps and it scuffed a bit. I'll probably repolish and reseal both headlights in the spring.

Today I finished the partial restoration of my 17" GT-B rims. They were in great original condition to begin with, but I wanted to touch up the slight curbing. Even so, it was more challenging than I was hoping. The lips have a specific profile that I wanted to maintain, even upon close inspection. A lot of trial and error, but I learned a lot as I went. It actually would have been easier to completely repaint them, but I was determined to leave the majority of the durable factory powdercoat finish unpainted.
BTW, as I speculated in an earlier post, I can confirm that the original color is basically the powdercoat version of 89N "Titanium Pearl" paint, popular on the lower cladding of most 2000-2004 Outbacks. The match is about 99% accurate, but needs to be tweaked by the paint shop to be considered "perfect".

How'd that stuff work as a filler for the rims. I'm looking for a cheaper way to take out scratches other and the finished result looks good.

It is the professional-grade glaze from an autobody supply shop. Works well enough, but I would almost rather have a sort of clay or putty to work with. The glaze is sticky and goopy and cannot really be shaped until it is hardened, and then must be filed sanded to get the desired shape. Par for the course for guys that work with this stuff regularly, I suppose. You may see in the photo the plastic syringe I used to apply exactly where I wanted the glaze to go. If I had used a putty knife, this wheel would have been a disaster, lol. Luckily, only one of the four wheels required glaze. The other three I was able to sufficiently build up enough primer and topcoat (with a lot of sanding and shaping) to fill up all of the nicks in the outer rim. The few nicks in the spokes themselves I tried to blend with the airbrush, but the color and texture match just wasn't close enough, so they were razor bladed, sanded flat, and polished and will just have to be there as-is for "character"

New Rule for this thread!
Please don't quote long strings of pictures from the post before, or even from ones on the same page. If you have to quote their post, eliminate the [IMG] tags or get rid of the photo links altogether. I've been trimming them, but it's really annoying to come in and find the same 6 photos reposted 4 times on the same page of this thread.

The rears connect straight in with no modification. There are a few threads about the fronts around, but search is being a pain for me right now so I cant link you to them right this second. I would look around for the "JDM RSK Lights" thread.
I could also swing by if you want to see how my car is wired up. It is the same for those light types as on mine.

I had to drill new holes in the door because they didn't line up with the original. Then I used self tapping screws to hold them in. Other than that they fit perfect and I don't have a clue if they are deeper than the stock speakers. My car came with aftermarket speakers to begin with. However there is a decent amount of room behind speakers.

cool. I tried to change door speakers in our 93 IMP wagon, but basic aftermarket 2-3 way were too deep w/o the factory surround and were too wide of a magnet for the factory surround. . . BUT i haven't gotten into my legacy's doors, so good to know if/when I do.

got smashed in-between a 2014 WRX and a Ford excursion, got stopped on a hill with 4 in of snow on top of glare ice. The wrx slid backwards ~30-40 feet hit the lego then it hit the Excursion then the wrx bounced off the front again, and sent me back into the excursion. There was a 3rd hit between the wrx and and the lego where I got on the gas to push back on the wrx.
lost some paint on the bumpers and the plastic on the front will need repaired, and I'll be getting a new trunk lid. The excursion had the hooks in the front bumper and it hit my trunk and bent the lid
here's the glare ice under the snow:

It's amazing the difference in visibility. Although I can definitly see the "JDM" cut off. It's like a diagonal line from high up on the drivers side that dives down to the pass side, but I haven't been flashed yet so I'm just gona roll with it.
I might have gone a bit over kill on the wiring but I wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any problems with it. Lol.
