check the where the reservoir meets the pump there is an o-ring that can go bad also the bolt that connects the two has a washer with a rubber ring on it. that's where mine was leaking, both were only a few bucks from the dealer.

I had a leaking one. Mine was between the reservoir and pump. Instead of the hassle of tearing it apart, plus thats a system I've been wanting to flush, I just got a used one with less wear on it. Mine is now from an 03 Impreza RS.

Everything bolted up for the most part. The main line was an issue. Mine was a bolt on the line and the new one was a banjo bolt. They were different sizes but there is a fitting on the pump that I swapped from my old one.

Installed my Oil Pressure switch. Didn't need 1, just swapping them out 1 by 1. Temp Sensor is next.

Found out my Pitch Stop is on it's way out the door. Thinking of replacing it with an aftermarket 1, but I don't want 1 that makes it shift like a track rat...

My friend asked me to pull my car into the garage so he could brainstorm about his custom turbo setup while his car was out to get an uppipe fabbed, so I finally did a few small things.

Increased tire pressure to 35 psi, adjusted clutch cable freeplay, adjusted brake pedal freeplay, sucked out some engine oil (way over full! ).

Get a Group N mount, even aftermarket wouldn't be bad with shifting. It's the extra noise at first, im so used to it I don't notice it at all.

I had the day off so, after taking some much needed time for sleeping in, I went out and checked to see where my power steering is leaking at. It looks like it is leaking from the o-ring where the tank meets the pump, so i ordered a rebuild kit. It also dawned on me that I'm not even sire what car that my motor is out of, so I'm hoping it ends up being the right one. I have hated driving to truck the past couple days. I topped off the fluid, but haven't driven it yet so I don't know if that will fix my squeeling when I'm turning.

I had planned to install my stereo today, but seeing as it was so nice, I tackled my wheels instead. Rustoleum semi-gloss black. I didn't get food coverage between a couple spokes, but its ok. That's what I get for rushing...they are just winter wheels. Stereo tomorrow if it doesn't rain too bad.

Just finished fab/install a 2.5 inch exhaust system for my friends 96 legacy with a 01 2.5rs engine.

contrary to what people are saying about a 2.5 piping, it actually has a nice deep rumble. He loves it!

I don't think I've ever had anyone say the bigger piping has bad sound, it's more about having too wide of piping that creates backpressure and hurts exhaust flow on a low power N/A engine.

That being said, it's nice to have good rumble :)

Perdue
11-20-2011, 02:54 PM
The larger pipe causes a decrease in backpressure, which hurts the exhaust's ability to scavage gases in an NA motor. I never really seemed to have a problem on the outback and it was 2.5"

Soul Shinobi
11-20-2011, 03:04 PM
It doesn't seem to be much on an issue on Subaru NA's, I suspect that the exhaust ports on the heads are restrictive enough. Larger headers on NA's seems to yield tons of extra torque.

I decided last night that I would paint my grill semi-gloss black as well, and reinstall it. The main reason I have always hated the USDM grill is the chrome. I think it looks good. I also too an hour or so to pull the headunit out of the truck and put it into the car...Ahhhh...the difference between a walmart pioneer and this alpine is unexplainable. It's even better to have the USB and auxiliary input. I'm going to try and tackle the XM radio transfer, as well as my subwoofer on my next day off.

nah it was running fine until this morning. I'll be picking up plugs and wires next week then go from there. I have a mechanic checking it out then as well but I already have about 2k worth of work that needs done so I really have to think about whether or not its worth it to fix this up or buy another.

eekay
11-25-2011, 11:16 PM
2K?! What exactly needs to be done? Someone here is selling an EJ20R long block & ECU for $1500.00 USD shipped. I'd do that WAY before I paid $2K for a restoration...

Timing belt, engine and trans mounts, oil pan, major rust repair, paint, and a few other things. If replacing the plugs and wires fixes it then thats fine but if it gets much more expensive i have my eye on a black wagon

also:

-Found out my drivers' inner tie rod boot is off (didn't see that before :smt017 )

-My hoses (upper or lower) haven't been building up pressure in them. I'm wondering when they did the headgaskets, if they replaced the waterpump or thermostat??? or both? No overheating, just went halfway once and I caught it. Hence why I'm leaning to the pump going bad. AmIwrong?

-My center diff was overfilled by the PO's shop. :smt011 Got to drain and refill that the right way. Thank you PO as that was the only thing I didn't check the first time around.

To stiffen up the front end from a chassis flex (vertical), better handling specially on cornering. Also when you jack up the car and have jack stands on both side, your front end won't sag. Your door will close better. Front end feels much stiffer. Almost ready to sell those flares. Been too busy (school, work, side job, family and about to move). Thanks for the explination and link. Saved to favorites. I am already starting to find some nice flares and run 17x8 wheels with like 235 or 245 tires. Might just steal the honda fenders idea. thanks! Yours is coming along real well also. What offset wheels? I think you might get away with just a roll and pull the fenders.

It actually wasn't my intention to put flares on mine. Pre ordered the xxr 527 18x8.75 +35 (with roll n pull fenders) early December 2010. Suppose to come out early new years of 2011. Then it got dragged on for like 6-7 months. Finally they came out but only 17/18 x 9.75 with really low offset +25/+20. Started seeing them on 240's and some subie. I called nlmotoring and they said that the 8.75+35 won't come out for another 1-2 months. I finally got tired of waiting and grabbed what they had in stock 18x9.75+20 but it all worked out in the end

Nice. Have you thought of maybe getting a spare tire cover off a Jeep or SUV to cover it and keep it from oxidizing the threads? After all, snow does come from above. Might have your spare looking like a bowl of cereal too

Nice. Have you thought of maybe getting a spare tire cover off a Jeep or SUV to cover it . . .

YES, I've just never taken the next step, and ACTUALLY looked for one ;)

I think they might not come small enough for a 27" tire, but maybe they do...

**EDIT**
Al ya have to do is get off the damn computer and run down to the parts store!!

Yup, When I did, I found out for $20 a cover goes from 26.5" to 29.5"

SOOOO, YES, I have thought about it, AND [just] bought one. Thanks a lot for that push!! :smt023

There is a weap hole it would be leaking out of if it failed and it would be leaking at mounting surface if it was gasket. Some times when a pump is failing it may only leak at times, so if you see the leaking go away then dont assume your problem has.

^ Impreza's are not at all as nice as Legacy's or Foresters, IMO... I like Foresters personally, not much of an Outback fan though, but thats me...

Just got home from a 800+ mile road trip to spend time with the lady friend! Car did great, till my CEL came on about 9 miles from home... ugh...

yeah i am finding that out. i wouldn't mind a forester XS but i cant find one in good condition for my price range. The impreza while bare bones is low mileage and priced right for the model. I always get worried when a car is priced a few k under Blue book

I always think that older Legacy's and Foresters are priced lower than Blue Book. But, that's only because I know how much they're actually worth. :) Let alone the amount of time and money I've put into mine... If my car only sold for 8K, I'd probably die.

Picked up a cargo mat. Also my neighbor got hit over the weekend and his GF OBS is totaled. He let me take the fog lights. They are the square-ish glass ones. Now I just need to figure out if I want to use them and where to put them....

I know huh?! Someone asked me "whats your White car worth?" (My BD).... I said I would let it go for $8K... After all the JDM parts and even more so my bumper, I would have hard time wanting to sell it!

I'm getting ready to put my BH up for sale in January, would like to get $7K with all the work I have done to the stupid thing... Next owners wont have anything big to do for a long time thats for sure! All the big stuff has been done! Well, other then HG's but they seem to be fine ATM....

eekay
12-14-2011, 02:23 PM
The BE/BH HG's were no where near as bad as the 2nd gens. They should hold up for the life of the motor, really. Although, any time I pull a Scoober engine I ALWAYS replace the HG's. :)

As far as work on my cars, I'm in the same boat. Hell, for my BD (when it's finished) I wouldn't take anything less than 20K! Lol.

Car was stalling recently in the morning and could not figure out why. I though it was frozen water/ slush in the tank so filled it up and put an additive in. Well this morning it happened again. Spoke to a buddy and he recomended changing the fuel filter. Wow what a difference. Fires right up and idles better. We will see how the morning plays out.

:smt017 5% can't be legal? :smt017 Although, it's waaay easier to blend in and hide in the big city.

I had to scrape my 20% in front last year for UTard inspection... All the shops (in Moab) that looked the other way in the past have closed their doors :smt012
